JOURNEY TO DATE
- IT’S HAD ITS UPS AND DOWNS
SOME OF THE CHALLENGES…..
› Lack of engagement
› Level of support
› Reliance on using academic assignments to evidence work
based projects and/or the application of skills
› Apprentices not being aware that it is an apprenticeship
programme, including why they need to complete an End
Point Assessment and what is involved
› No mapping or evidence locator document included in/with
the portfolio
DIVERSITY & DEGREE
APPRENTICESHIPS
› 51% / 49% male:female ratio
› Around 2 in 5 come from the country's
50% most deprived areas
› 10% BAME background
Note: We are also seeing a range in the age and levels of
experience of apprentices completing our Degree and
Masters level programmes.
WHAT ARE OUR APPRENTICES
SAYING?
As part of a recent pulse survey conducted by CMI to
our Management & Leadership apprentices:
› 89% said their apprenticeship is giving them
better career prospects
› 92% said their apprenticeship is helping them to
develop the skills they need to be more
productive at work
› 89% said their apprenticeship is having a positive
impact on their contribution to the organisation
they work for
“The CMDA has given me
the knowledge, skills &
confidence to develop as
a leader/manager. Not
only has this benefited my
personal development, but
I have been able to
develop my team.”

5 KEY POINTS TO TAKEAWAY
1. The Apprenticeship must be the primary outcome
2. Apprenticeships are work-based not academic learning
programmes
3. Get to know the Apprenticeship Standard and relevant
assessment plan
4. We all need to work together - Employer, Training
Provider and EPAO to ensure the apprentice is ready for
EPA
5. ‘Start With The End In Mind’
