This program will provide basic tips and fundamental techniques to enhance your personal

safety.Who: 9th – 12th grade girls

THE FOCUS Teach safety tips to avoid

potentially harmful situations. Teach basic techniques and

strategies for protecting oneself. Build self-confidence. Enhance personal safety and

protection. Create awareness of dangerous

circumstances.

THE DISPLAY

Several books about self- defense and personal safety were purchased by the high school library.

The EAST Lab Department at the middle school created and printed posters with personal safety tips.

SNACK TIME

Snacks were provided by a local grocery store. While the girls gathered their snacks they were able to view the posters and look at the books on display.

GETTING STARTED

I welcomed the girls and gave them a quick overview about the focus of the program.

The girls were then given questionnaires to fill out on their current knowledge about personal safety and protection.

Nine girls were in attendance for the program.

SPECIAL GUEST

State Trooper Seth Higginbottom was the guest speaker for the program.

He gave the girls some pointers on personal safety.

SELF-DEFENSE TECHNIQUES

Trooper Higginbottom and the high school principal, Marc Walling, demonstrated some basic self-defense moves.

Trooper Higginbottom answered questions that the girls had.

He also discussed the questionnaire with them.

EVALUATION RESULTS 8 of the girls gave the program an

overall rating of Great, 1 gave it a rating of Very Good.

Most of the girls enjoyed the self-defense technique demonstrations the best.

9 out of 9 of the girls said they felt that the program was beneficial and increased their confidence and self awareness.
