Men’s Vice President Report

The men’s section of the KBH Brumbies had a successful 2019 season. We built upon our success in 2018 and 2017, and this year we were again fortunate enough to have multiple teams play off in the finals series. Critically, we performed well in the Premier League and Premier League Reserves grades, and had a large number of people training and aspiring to play higher grades. As a club, we are in excellent shape moving forward.

Home and Away season- The men’s section had eight teams this year, PL, PLR, Pen B, Pen C, Pen E, Pen F, and Metro A and B. We were in the top 4 men sections in terms of number of teams. In seven of these teams were players who attended training regularly across at least one of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Three of these teams finished with a ladder position in the top four, earning the opportunity to play in the finals. While we did not achieve the same success as last year in terms of number of teams in finals, it needs to be remembered that we had three teams playing a higher grade this year as a consequence of promotion earned at the end of 2018.

A special mention goes to the two Metro teams, led by Al Kemp and Shane Smith. Many of the players in these teams trained solidly throughout the year and had a number of very strong results against some of the top teams. It was great to see how both teams provided opportunities to returning club members. We certainly hope to see all of these players again next year, with hopefully even more training regularly, improving their skills, and enjoying their time with the club.

Finals- The three teams who played finals this year were Pennant C, Pennant E, and Pennant F. The Pennant E team unfortunately was knocked out in the semifinal, while the other two teams went all the way to the Grand Final, but lost in close encounters.

Congratulations- I would like to congratulate Marty De Man for his success in coaching the KBH Premier League men’s squad during a tough first year in this league. Marty was well supported by Sam Scott and Chris Harper. These three leaders guided a young group in a tough environment. Although the games were challenging, the team performed well and certainly gave us a glimpse of what they are capable of in the future.

I would also like to congratulate Luke Mooney who stepped into the role of Premier League Reserves coach. After a tough start, Luke had the team playing really posi-tive and structured hockey for most of the season. There are exciting times ahead at the elite level of the men’s section.

Thanks- I very much appreciate the work that all of the team coaches, captains and managers have put into supporting their teams week in, week out. Without these people contributing so much throughout the season, the club could not operate as well as it does. There are many players at the club who benefit from such com-mitment to guiding, leading, and mentoring. I know from experience that there is significant personal reward in taking on such a role, but I am also aware that it can take up a large amount of time over many months. So, on behalf of our club, I sincerely extend my thanks to all of you.

I would like to extend my thanks to Chris ‘Seeka’ Kelly, in particular. Seeka has been an amazing contributor to the men’s section for many years now. He tirelessly leads and reminds the coaches into completing their team selections, and then posts most of the teams onto Facebook. This has made tracking player availability very straightforward and is an extremely important part of keeping the club running during the season.

Master’s Vice President Report

A very positive winter year with a total of 10 teams in the HV Masters Comp, 9 men and 2 women’s teams.

We had two MM35 men’s teams for the first time this year, and also a MM 60s, another first. We had two teams (MM45A and MM45C) contest the grand final, but unfortunately both came home with silver, but both had a great game and a good season. Several of the other teams were only a point or two off finals, and the rest all finished mid field.

At State level, KBH had a total of 26 players selected for state representation in age groups from 35 to 65, many of our players contested finals at state level and 4 were selected to play for Australia. Elgar Rd is now also being used as a state training field helping increase our off field income.

Summer season kicks off again with the MM blended Monday night competition, the women’s masters and again the 60s masters. KBH masters are a very busy, dynamic and successful bunch of hockey lovers

Women’s Vice President Report

Firstly, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Madi Moorhead for stepping in as Vice President for most of the season while I was galivanting around Europe – I’m in-credibly grateful that you took the reins while I was gone!Across the board, it was a successful year for the Brumbies Women. Our outstand-ing Pennant D side, led by Leah Allen and Claire Sime, achieved the two goals set for the year – promotion and a premiership. They finished a whopping three games clear of second, and won the grand final in style. Thanks to all involved who worked hard to ensure the club will yet again have Pennant sides moving up the ranks. The Metro B Ladies, led by the hardworking and sensational Penny Boon, earned their spot in the Grand Final following a fantastic year of hockey. For many years now Penny has been a vital leader in the women’s section, and the results (plus the happy faces of our Metro ladies each week) showed. Thank you, Penny. Our Pennant A side had a great year, having moved swiftly up from Pennant C only two years ago. To finish just outside of the 4 is an amazing effort and we look for-ward to seeing how far you can get in 2020! Thank you to Kirsty Welsman and Ange Allen for managing this superstar group. The Pennant E team, coached by Mat Morrow and managed by Felicity Parkinson, had a strong year, finishing fourth and playing finals. A big thank you to Mat and Felicity for all your hard work to get the team on the pitch (and winning games!) each week! Our Premier League and Premier League Reserves squads continue to improve year on year in the top grades in the state. A strong finish to the year ensured our firsts took points in nine games, and the reserves are playing better than ever. We look forward to continuing that form into next year! Finally, thank you to all of our wonderful coaches and selectors who work tirelessly to ensure the women’s section continues to grow and improve, both on and off the field.Steve White, Ray Berryman, Daniel Chang, Lisa Stewart and Sean Walsh. Thank you for all of your hard work every year.

After spending far too long out of the top-flight the 2019 season was new episode for the KBH Men’s Firsts, entering Premier league for the first time as KBH Brumbies. Entering the season with only a hand full of players with Premier league experience. It was expected to be a steep learning curve for the group.

The build-up to the season started well, with a strong preseason with very good num-bers from the Men’s section. In change to preseason format the squad had a com-petitive training session against Greensborough, which gave an insight as to the level training required. Practice games indicated some positive signs for the season ahead.

The Premier league season couldn’t have started any better. Playing Mentone in front of a large home crowd and fielding 12 Premier league debutants the game and season couldn’t have start better. In the 1st quarter Antony Lake coolly finishing off a counterattack to start the season on a high. Not unsurprisingly Mentone equalised after constant pressure in the 3rd quarter. With the game was finely balanced moving into the final quarter. The performance of the group in the last quarter demonstrated a readiness for the big-league, dominating 4th quarter possession and territory. In building up the tension, the win was left to the last play of the game, Gill Hassel con-verting a Penalty Corner after the siren with a helpful touch to start off celebrations.

After the round one win, the group spent the next games getting use to the pace of the game. Acclimatising to the increase speed, lack of time and increase in pressure of play by teams such as Camberwell, Waverly, Footscray and Southern United. While the group found difficulty in applying pressure with ball and putting score board pressure. Defending was a standout, with specific mention to each member of the defensive group. With under constant pressure kept the team in nearly all games, demonstrated in the 1-1 draw v Essendon, one nil loss to Altona and PH/St Kilda and a 2-1 late loss Hawthorn.

After a long season the boys played MCC in the final round. The Brumbies caught MCC off guard with high tempo start, creating a number of opportunities with the ball and blunting MCC build up and attacks. In the dying minutes of the 1st quarter, Tom Allan moving to a full man on man press pinched the ball then from the top of the circle put the ball over the GK’s shoulder into the top left corner. After the breakMCC stepped up and squared the game, after which momentum swayed between teams. In demonstrating the improvement made by the team over the season

Page 8: KBH Brumbies Hockey Annual Report€¦ · Hans Van Beuge (Whitehorse Box Hill HC) Ian Sauvarin (Whitehorse Box Hill HC) Geoff Hall (Whitehorse Box Hill HC) Steve Clarke (Whitehorse

the team saved their best team goal of the year. In the 3rd building up from a 16’ through quick interplay down the right side, Gill Hassle was able to finish off a one on one with the keeper, coolly slotting from the top of the circle. Led by Tom Scott in the net, the remaining 20 minutes of the game the defence held firm, never look-ing like letting the ball to go in the net.

This book ending of the season, with a win against a top 8 team demonstrated the character and resilience of the group and demonstrated what is possible when the team is focused.

I would like to thank the leadership group Tom Allan, Al Payne and Gill Hassall for leading the team. Additional thanks to Sam Scott as assistant coach looking after the defence and Tristian Harris for all his hard work in running the conditioning program over the preseason. Finally, I would like to give thanks to Chris Harper for getting myself and the team organised off the pitch each week.

In looking ahead to next season. Season two will a new challenge. Any wins will need to be earned, with gains and improvement only made through each player working hard to improve their skills, awareness, connections and conditioning. Let’s enjoy each week as they come.

Looking forward to seeing everyone for a big 2020 Premier League season

Giddy Up’ Brumbies.

Coach: Sean Walsh Assistant Coach: Steve White Captain: Jess Williams Team Manager: Ray Berrtman and Clair Williams 2019 was a year of consolidation and development for the KBH Brumbies Premier League Women. We consolidated our position in the Premier League competition while also developing the future stars of the club.

Of the 23 players who pulled on the Brumbies uniform in Premier League in 2018, 14 of them were under the age of 20. This bodes extremely well for the future of the club. In 2018 the inexperience of the team led to inconsistency from week to week but 2019 told a different story. We were competitive against every team in the completion including taking points of the eventual premier Hawthorn. While last year’s inconsistency led to a goal difference of -80 and some heavy defeats, our goal difference in 2019 improved by 60 goals and we managed to gather results from 9 of our games while having chances to score points in many more.

The team performed extremely well against teams we were expected to beat getting results in 8 of 9 games. While we were unable to get a win against one of the top sides in the competition we were competitive for significant parts of games leading to many close results and a win is just around the corner.

Given the significant steps forward the team has taken in 2019 and with another pre-season, some fine tuning of skills and the continued development of a young team 2020 will be an exciting year to be a Brumby.

Coach: Luke Mooney Manager: Rob Millard

The move into the Premier League system brought a new level of competition for the men’s top two sides which was to be expected. For the Reserve side, it also brought welcomed additions as the team began the year with five players whom had not previously appeared for the club and others that were returning after time away from the game. The combination of new personnel (including the coach) and heightened competition proved a significant challenge for the side in the earlier part of the year as an initial Round 1 success against Mentone was followed by some heavy defeats at the hands of entrenched Primer League clubs. It became readily apparent during these games that the “Vic League” approach, work rate and thinking about the game would not be competitive at this level. To the players’ credit, the team maintained its enthusiasm and camaraderie dur-ing these times, approaching each game with an expectation of progress within the group. These efforts were rewarded in later stages of the season as players settled into their roles and structures began to take shape in the team. The resulting im-provements can be measured by comparing the first 10 games of the season with the following 9:

The level of competition did not change across this time, however refinements at the offensive and defensive ends of the field began to produce results. Particularly pleas-ing were games against top 8 sides where the points where shared, or the results were significantly closer than earlier in the year. Across the second half of the season, there was only one game against Camberwell where it could be said that we were truly outplayed. The Reserve side began the year with only one player in the team that previous experience in the Premier League system. The 2020 season will be different, and the challenge is to begin the year as we finished 2019, not as it started. The most consistent performer of the year was Rob Millard and I would like to thank him on behalf of all the players for taking on the role of team manager for 2019. The support and stability he brought off the field made a significant contribution to the year.

Coach: Daniel Chang Manager: Jane Henwood The WPLR team set out at the start of the year with great emphasis on the season theme of “For the Team” in that everything each player did would be for each other and the team as a whole; not restricted to events on game day but also efforts to be at training. To work with intensity, focus and direction and to support and encourage all involved in the squad both on the field and off.Not everything in team sports is about scoring goals and winning games, especially in a reserve side where the key goal is to develop and improve players in a competitive but positive environment. I am very proud of all the players whom came through the team each of whom improved substantially in their own way and contributed to mak-ing the culture in the 2’s positive and welcoming and fun but also productive. This is supported by the fact that training was always busy with great numbers even on the coldest of winter nights and regardless of the trend in results or our position on the ladder everyone wanted to be part of the team and all were happy to be there. Appreciation goes to Ashleigh White, Claire Picone, Alice Rush and Alicia Pridgeon all whom were driving factors in the team’s culture.WPLR’s season saw a notable improvement in the quality of hockey played by an ever-changing line up over last year’s performances with some positive statistics:

In patches, the team could produce high quality performances so the challenge was to minimize the rift between our best and worst hockey while producing and capital-izing on scoring opportunities. The team managed to reduce this gap towards the end of the season with great performances against Altona and MCC.Changes to the structure mid-season resulted in a tighter defence that performed well under constant pressure. Special mention to Emma Olorenshaw and the defen-sive unit whom really improved over the season making some great saves and keep-ing the team competitive. Many of our results didn’t accurately reflect the entirety of the match as many games were within our grasp with majority of momentum and possession going our way but short lapses in concentration and our inability to convert opportunities onto the

Page 12: KBH Brumbies Hockey Annual Report€¦ · Hans Van Beuge (Whitehorse Box Hill HC) Ian Sauvarin (Whitehorse Box Hill HC) Geoff Hall (Whitehorse Box Hill HC) Steve Clarke (Whitehorse

scoreboard cost us.

Evident from the table above and in light of every post-match debrief lamenting our missed opportunities and unforced errors, work needs to be done to improve our fundamental skills and most importantly our ability to put the ball in the net if we want to be a challenger in the WPLR competition in years to come. Thanks to Jane Henwood taking on the role of team manager and doing an impecca-ble job providing support to the players and I.

Huge thanks to Steve White and Sean Walsh for helping out at training, coaching the team when needed and for providing wisdom and direction throughout the year. Also appreciate their assistance in dealing with a multitude of other issues.Congratulations to Lauren Boulter on her debut with the WPL team this year and on winning the coveted “Twonicorn” WPLR Player’s Player Award.A thoroughly enjoyable season, not without its frustrations, lows and highs but good progress overall on the path forward.

Coach: Peter Hovenden Manager: Morgan CassarCaptain: Jason Mulder

What a season, the men’s thirds were a completely new group, which we are bonding together for hopefully future success. We also had many players play in our side, 38 different players for the season. We also had 5 different goalies. So, getting a settled side was an ongoing challenge this season.

That being said, the group gradually became more accustomed to playing together and some season highlights, including beating the second side Camberwell 3-1. We took points from every side except the top team Essendon. I think we showed improvement through the season, our defence of Jason, Bennie and Phil became more resilient and our mid’s Jim, Brodie, Mike and Alex became more used to the physicality that is often present. The work rate required at this level is evident in the results from our forwards Morgs, Kang, Harry, and Stephen. And in the second half of the season Inder and Kawar. Our top goal scorer was Steve Thresher with 12, and Harrison Wallace scored 8. In season we needed to defend as a team better; as our goals for at 50 was not bad, but we conceded 54 goals against, which is too many. We hope to improve nest season. We finished 6th, clearly is a case of working harder for longer and improving cer-tain areas of our game, both individually and collectively, for us to become a finals contender. As I am sure is the case with other sides, it is small moments that can cost a game. Eliminate, reduce; the small moments and better results occur. Lots to work on, but lots of upside for this group.I would also like to thank Morgs for all his communication and administrative work for the team. Peter Hovenden

KBH Brumbies were defeated by Doncaster 0-2 in the grand final.

Coach/Captain: Andy Prophet Manager: Carol Sheldon

Under the positive guidance of our Coach/Captain Proph and with the welcome bo-nus of our up and coming juniors, Jake, Jarred, Alex and the return of (not so junior) Tom, the first half of the season was a mixed bag that showed moments of brilliance. The team managed 5 wins, 3 draws, 2 losses, injuries and absent players in abun-dance and a manager half way around the globe.

With nearly full contingent back on board, we stormed through the second half of the season into yet another finals berth! The 1st semi v Doncaster was one for the ages .....3-1 down with 2 minutes left on the clock, 2 amazing goals scored to level and a then win in the shootout , GF placed secured 2019. Sadly going on to lose the Grand Final to Doncaster was disappointing, but it simply wasn’t our day!

Reflecting on the last 10 years, the core of our team have played in 6 grand finals and won 4, across a number of Vic League’s and pennant division’s, which is truly a stellar effort. So to keep things in perspective, making the GF is a testament to the comradery and support the players give each other an even more valuable attribute than their obvi-ous talent.

Another very solid season guys! Carol Sheldon

Manager/coach: Kirsty Welsman and Ray Berryman

Riding high after our promotion from pennant B last year we saw ourselves for the first time in Pen A. We like to think of this grade as the equivalent of a retirement village...where many fine women go to live out their hockey days but still manage to play some fantastic hockey.

We knew this year was going to be a challenge and a chance to cement ourselves. I feel we definitely showed the competition what we are capable of. We finished the season 5th, coming so close to a finals berth and during the season had some stand out games against some very strong competition.

A huge thanks to Ray Berryman for stepping in and helping us throughout the season at training and games. Special mention to all the girls who filled in for us, doubled up for us and supported us this season. We literally couldn’t have taken the field without you. To our friends and kiddies who formed a formidable support crew, thank-you. The biggest thanks goes to the PenA girls themselves, an incredible bunch of ladies who make the season so much fun. I genuinely look forward to taking the field with you each week, not just for your ability on the field, but your friendship off it.

KBH Brumbes were defeated by Waverley 2-5 in the semi final

Coach/Manager: Bill Allen

The Men’s Pennant E team had a reasonably successful season. There were 4 or 5 players who were members of the winning Pen D team last year, 4 or 5 who had played Metro A last year, 2 or 3 who played in the Grand Final team of Pen E last year, and a few new players who joined the club at the start of this year. It felt like we were in about the right grade, we were very ex-cited to be playing again, and we thought we had a reasonable opportunity to finish the season in as one of the top 2 teams.

Unfortunately, we probably did not click as a team as early as we should have. We drew 4 of the first 5 matches. One of those games was against Essendon who played without a keeper. However, despite these early dropped points, we managed an excellent run of form, winning 10 of the next 11 matches.

The last game of the regular season against Brunswick was the decider. Both teams were on the same number of points, but Brunswick had the better goal difference. We needed to win the match in order to finish the season in 2nd position and move into the box seat for promo-tion. The game ended in a hard-fought draw away at Brunswick. Brunswick undoubtably ben-efited from playing at home, and having their next highest team (PLR) playing in a dead rubber (did I hear somebody say stacked??).

The two teams who finished in the promotion position were their club 3rds, which meant that throughout the season, they had players dropping down from PLR or VL2R teams. When the KBH Pen E team was short, or when we were playing a ‘must win’ game, we primarily had to rely on bringing players up from Pen F (although at times these were very handy inclusions – thanks Marty and Winny!). But of course thanks also goes to those players who were willing and able to drop down from higher grades when called upon.

Even though we finished the season in 3rd position, we know we had a team who could beat any of the other teams. It was definitely unfortunate that two of our best regular players, Ash Reid and Scott Roberts, were unavailable for the Semifinal. No doubt it would have been a dif-ferent story with them on the park.

We had 12 wins, 1 loss and 5 draws during the season. We scored 78 goals and conceded 47.We had 37 players run through the team. The highest goal scorer was Andrew Rowe with 21, followed by Alex Brown with 10.Great disciplinary record, with very few cards. We had 8 in total, and 4 were in one game against Dandenong in Round 2.

The KBH Pen F team had another wonderful season. We had some troubles off the field before the season stated, but once we played our first game, we all realized why we love playing hockey. In the end, we lost the grand final in a shootout after been up 2-1 with 3 minutes to go. We were brave, but just could not get over the line. Many of the Pen F boys came back after 2018, but a few juniors had to go up, and Hillsy gave it a miss for the year. The new people gave a new audience for the same stories we had told over the last 30 years, and added some great variation in or hockey team.

The 3 juniors in our team; Harps, Hearny and Lachie, won their U16 shield premiership, (along with our losing grand final). We were lucky enough to have Matt Kong join the team. He played in every position asked, and is great helping the younger players.

We are very privileged to have the best team manager and photographer in the competi-tion, Noel Kelly. He does so much of the hard work and is such a calming influence on everyone. We have a record of our lives with his photos. Along with Rick, Leslie, Phil and John, we always had people supporting and helping on the sidelines.

For a team with 10 people over 40, including a couple on the wrong side of 50, we have so much fun. We get to get away from the pressures of life for a few hours a week, tell some stories, play some hockey, and enjoy ourselves. When life doesn’t go according to plan, it is great to have a team and club that that you can just turn up to and smile and others will just smile back.

2019 was meant to be Pennant D’s and what a success it was. After being in the top contenders in the Pennant D league since the KBH Brumbies formed it was well and truly time to take it to the next level….and take it we did. Not only were we Minor Premiers of the season finishing top of the ladder with 15 wins, but we won the Grand Final as well.

We had an array of players pass through our team sheet this season, all contributing to the suc-cess of the home and away games. The team was well balanced with a variety of old, new and ex-perienced players. Our strong defensive backline consisted of Chloe in goals whom had a fantastic season with some great saves, Aly and Aly held off the fast attacks from opposing teams and kept the ball in our forward half. Our centre piece for forward moving plays Vanessa was reliable and always put in 110%, Vanessa was a crucial player of our short corner attacks scoring the winning goal of the season. In support of Ness on the half we had her right-hand lady Leah who not only team managed and assured we had enough players week to week but also a driving force in game play, Amelia supported on the left and closed down multiple attacking plays of the opposition and feeding the ball back into our attacking zones. Our fast-moving forward line was guided by the experienced Claire and Amanda (Daws) who were able to be heard all across the field yell-ing constructive criticism and relaying tactics on field. The Enniss Sisters (Ella and Maggie), Tina, Sabriah and Kate were quick at the ball always running the field and could consistently be found in the circle ready for a goal. Later in the season the team was joined by some great new editions with Emma now in the defensive line and Laura joining the forwards adding more experience to the team.

Our season began with an easy 6-0 win against Monash and continued until round 12 where we had our first night game and our first loss of the season against Altona, some say it was due to the cold night and others say it was due to the ex-Olympic player, either way it was a tight game with them coming back from being 4-1 down to then taking it out for a 6-4 win. After our first and only loss of the home and away season we found ourselves off our game drawing with Camberwell 1 all the following week, but we shortly found ourselves again with a 6-0 win over Doncaster. In round 16 we drew again 2-2 with Footscray but we finished the season strong and with two more wins. The first round of finals was a 1-0 loss to southern United in what was an extremely tough game with them scoring their goal off a late short corner. Lucky for us being minor premiers gave us a second chance to be in the grand final much to a few players happiness which meant there would be no week off. The team was firing and determined to make it to the Grand Final beating Altona 3-1. In what was an even game saw it 1 all with 10 minutes to go. KBH Brumbies played the hard-est last 10 minutes of the game to ensure they came out on top with Vanessa and Tina scoring a goal each, not only were these two amazing in this game but they also scored the most goals with

10 each throughout the season. In the Grand Final verses Southern once again a point to prove and a determination to win. In a hard-fought final Vanessa scored a goal from a penalty corner which carried through to the end of the game ensuring Pennant D took home the flag. We would like to thank Leah for assuring our team was organised and able to play week to week. Claire on field captain and coach whom then passed on her duties to Kirsty so she was able to play the game on field. Kirsty for her feedback and pointers. Changy who joined us for our final’s series with some great training sessions and beneficial finals coaching who brought us a wealth of knowledge and game and corner strategies’. Kellie and Mark Enniss whom filled out the team sheets and payed umpires’ week to week. All the players who filled in and played for us through-out the season. And thanks to all the KBH Families, supporters and officials for coming down and being a part of our journey. We are looking forward to starting our new Chapter in Pen-nant C next year and seeing everyone back for another great season. The Enniss Sisters

Wow, what a year it’s been... we started the season without a goal keeper and managed to win some games with 11 field players, but we knew we couldn’t keep it up against a tough few teams. We were quite fortunate to have Loretta join us as goalie. Combined with our top voted defender, Amy (also voted as our hardest hitter - watchout!), we gave it everything we had to prevent the other team from scoring. At the other end of the field, Mel was our top goal scorer (with actual goals, not the ac-cidental bonus goals online!), Emma was our top attacker and Yasmin got the best goal of the season. Claire topped the votes for the swirliest dribbler (whatever that means) and was also our most consistent player. In the mid-field, we had Bec leading the charge alongside our loudest player, Molly, and our best all rounder, Sarah. Anthea flew under the radar, Kat had the best attempt at a tomahawk and Sally was always where she was needed. Sophia managed to make it through the season as our least injured player. This was juxtaposed with Emilie’s multiple hospital visit worthy injuries. As our most improved player, we had Belle, and for the best attitude throughout the year was Meg. We actually had so many fill-in players throughout the season, that if I mention them all, there’ll be no space for any other team reports, but we value the sup-port from each of you. This team report wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Matt Morrow, our wonder-ful coach, who managed to get us from a group of women and girls who didn’t know each other into a finals qualifying bunch of friends. It’s been a great season and I’m look-ing forward to an even better 2020 now that Frankston is out of our grade. Felicity Parkinson

I would to thank everyone for your effort throughout the year and your commitment to the team. At different points during season we looked like a finals team but the consistency we needed failed us at different times during the season.I would like to recognise the several people in the team:• Ewen – the goal scoring machine we needed to provide direction for the team up forward. Thankyou for your patience(even though I missed entering 10 extra goals for you in the system) and accepting the invite to play with us from the Pennant F team. • Vanessa and Matt – The best mother and son combination in the league. You both displayed “steelie” determination to be out there and mix it with some bigger bodies. Matt – you have improved some much with each game demonstrating your skills and potential.• Max – Great goal keeping. The memorable moment in the early rounds was the diving save on your right hand side to save a certain goal.• Ken “the Voice” Chen. At first you were quiet, but then with confidence, you become more vocal and integral part of the forward line. Again, the improvement in your game to be more competitive and present yourself up forward was fantastic.• Jonathan – Another junior who has stepped up to present themselves as a future player. You have played, wing, inner and half back. Thanks for being so willing to fill a position in the team no matter which position it was. • Jotham – Present, present and present. You kept trying in the each game, presenting options to the defence and linking up with the forwards. skills improved with each game and it was a pleasure observing you and the other younger squad member develop in the team. • Ben – the fastest push outs on the corner anyone has seen. Quote from a supporter in one the games! I will remember that early Sunday games is not your thing next year. You lead the team from the back line and greatly appreciate your guidance when I was playing with you on the back line. I have not played much down back as you can tell.• Dave Cork – Solid, running down the right and providing options. 100% each game and it was a pleasure when I or others are playing knowing that you were on the field and always providing options down the right. • Luke – Great having you in the team and especially in the later half of the season when you did not have the school commitments to hockey on the same day. Loved playing with one of my good mate’s son. You certainly did not get that pace from your Dad, and you are allot calmer on the field than your Dad. Sorry Shep!• Lucas – 6 games and we missed you to Pennant and work commitments.

Thanks for coming back from injury and playing in our team. • Ryan and Liam – Two players who came back to hockey after multiple years off. Thanks for contributing to the team and you picked up the game so easily, hope to see you playing in the off season and next year.• Lachie – great having you filling in when you could between the metro B side and work commitments.• Tom and Tom – Tom Moorhead and Tom Spillman. Thankyou for filling in even when you were a bit dusty after a late night out.• Kim, Angus, Cracka, Scott, Dave K, Dan and Brett – thankyou for providing your leadership and experience to the team. I am certain you were as inspired as I was playing with this team.Alistair Kemp
