FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome Back!Welcome back to a new exciting year at Kellyville Ridge and welcome to all our new families. We also welcome some new members of staff and some staff returning from leave. These teachers bring with them a vast array of experiences and make a welcome addition to our staff. A complete staff list appears later in the newsletter. I have also included a copy of the school map for your information. After an extended period of sick leave, I am very excited to be back and I must thank Mrs Maher, Mr Hope, Mrs McDonald, all the teaching and support staff for keeping things running in my absence. They have all done a fabulous job!Organisation for Term 1 is well underway and I urge you to keep a close watch on the diary dates section of each newsletter. All the children are to be congratulated on the wonderful start to the year. Parents are reminded that all members of staff are available to discuss children’s progress and needs at mutually convenient times. Please contact the office to make an appointment.

Mobile Phones At SchoolA reminder that all children who bring mobile phones to school must book them into the office each morning for safe keeping. The phones will be locked away and children will be able to book them out in the afternoon. Please ensure that only children who need access to a mobile phone after school bring their phones to school. PLEASE NOTE: Ipods, Apple Watches and hand held games are NOT to be brought to school. The school does not accept responsibility for their loss or damage.

FROM THE DEPUTIES

Welcome To Big School!This week we welcomed nearly 100 excited Kindergarten children to KRPS. It was a pleasure meeting both the children and their families during their pre enrollment meetings. We have enjoyed walking into their classrooms and seeing how settled they are and adjusting well into school routines. Thank you to our Kindy parents for assisting in the mornings by dropping their children to the classroom and promptly leaving, allowing their children to settle for the day ahead. In the short term, the Kindergarten children will be playing separately from the remainder of the school at recess and lunch until they are comfortable with their surrounds and are ready to be ‘let loose’ into the main playground.

Wearing Our Uniform With PrideIt has been wonderful to see our students proudly wearing their school uniform to commence the school year. A couple of uniform reminders. * We have noticed that some school hats are looking a little worn. Some hats have had their binding removed causing them to fray around the edge. If this is the case, please consider replacing the hat.* As per our uniform policy, multi-coloured hair or coloured streaked hair does not promote positive community perceptions of our school and therefore is to be discouraged.

Afternoon Pickup on Singleton AveOur pickup zone on Singleton Ave has been running very smoothly thus far. A friendly reminder that this is a ‘No Parking’ zone in the afternoon and you must not park there to collect your children. The system works very well by allowing children to hop into the first 4-6 cars and once departed, all cars in the queue proceed forward as far as possible. Thank you for your cooperation in making our afternoon pick up as smooth and safe as possible.

Term 1 InvoicesTerm 1 invoices will be coming home next week. Please note that each child will be receiving their own invoice. Cash/cheque payments are to be sent in an envelope clearly marked with the child’s name, class and with the attached invoice. Payments can also be made online via the school website. Details will accompany the invoice. PLEASE NOTE: On-line payments must be completed 48hrs prior to the closing date to allow for processing.

Parent VolunteersA reminder that parent volunteers, including canteen helpers, classroom helpers and parents who assist with transporting students, are required to register with Service NSW and receive a ’Working with Children’ approval letter. This approval letter must be shown to the school prior to parents working in classrooms or transporting students. There is no cost associated with this approval and more information appears later in the newsletter. Please contact the school office if you need further details. All approvals for new canteen helpers must be completed before you can begin work in the canteen.

KRPS Website and NewsletterA reminder that the newsletter and all notes home can be accessed from the school website www.kellyridge-p.nsw.edu.au and the school app. The school app can be downloaded for free via your Apple or Android smart phone. Detailed instructions can be collected from the office. Commencing this year, our school newsletter will be issued fortnightly.

COLES SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS

This term we have registered our school for the Coles Sports For Schools program. When you shop at Coles, please collect the vouchers issued and place into our collection box here in the front office or at Coles Stanhope Gardens. The vouchers collected can be redeemed by the school for sporting equipment. Thank you for your assistance!

CANTEEN CORNER

Our canteen under the care of Mrs Birkett and Mrs Arthur is off to a great and busy start in 2018. The Flexischools online ordering system will be operational soon. More information will follow when this is ready to go. An updated menu and price list is included in this newsletter and can be found under the ‘Notes Home’ tab on our school app. We would love to see some more volunteers being added to our list. You can volunteer for one day a week, fortnight, month or on our casual emergency list. Your child will love seeing you in the canteen too! Please contact the canteen or office if you can assist.

SPORT NEWS

Congratulations Adam!

Our 2018 swimming carnival was held on Wednesday, 31 January at Riverstone Swimming Centre. All children are to be commended on their outstanding effort and behaviour on the day. We do need to mention the remarkable achievement of Adam J (Year 6) who broke six senior boys swimming records! In fact, Adam broke the record for every event he entered. Congratulations Adam on your remarkable achievements!

Summer PSSA

Permission Notes & Payments

Dear Parents / Guardians, Please note that there is a Return by Date on all permission notes and payments notes. This date is usually 2 - 3 days before the excursion occurs. Payments WILL NOT be accepted after the date on the note. This return date allows us to confirm the correct number of places at the event, confirm buses and to make payments for the event to organisers and in the event of a competition, submit names to the organisers. Extra students cannot be added for people wanting to pay after the date on the note. This would mean us continually contacting each company to change the number of bookings made and amend payment, which is not feasible. Permission notes are given to the students concerned with that excursion/event. The notes are also available on the Smart Phone App and School Website for re-printing, except if the event is for a selected group of students. Students are responsible for handing these notes to parents and returning them within the time stated. A Smart Phone App and Facebook Page message is issued a few days before the note and payment is due, to assist you with payment organisation. Thank you
