Network Rail

Network Rail Does:• Operate, maintain, renew

and enhance the network• Co-ordinate the

production of RUSs• Allocate timetable slots

according to route capacity constraints

• Operate the 18 largest stations on the network

Network Rail Does Not:• Specify train services

including destination, frequency or rolling stock

• Operate train services• Operate stations other

than the 18 largest stations on the network

Network Constraints

Timetable Development Process

• DfT specifies the timetable through franchise awarded to the train operator, in Greater London TfL has options to request enhancement to services

• TfL, and other transport bodies and other affected passenger and freight operators are consulted on changes

• TOC submits bids and Network Rail consults on operability of the base timetable with affected parties

• Network Rail undertakes Timetable modelling • TOC publishes the detailed timetable
