In 1774, James Harrod established the first permanent settlement west of the Alleghenies in what would become Central Kentucky. The fort has been reconstructed near the site of the original. Costumed craftspeople perform pioneer tasks such as wood-working, weaving, basketry and blacksmithing and tend the farm animals and gardens. The Lincoln Marriage Temple shelters the original log cabin where Abraham Lincoln’s parents were married in 1806, and the Mansion Museum houses Civil War artifacts, a gun display, Native American artifacts and a collec-tion of Lincoln memorabilia.

Rental Facilities: Conference center, amphitheatre, and shelter available.

Museum and Gift Shop: Wide variety of unique gifts, books, music, food products, handmade items, children’s items, Kentucky handcrafts and souvenirs.

The Fort Structures: The fort at the center of Old Fort Harrod is made of several structures that reflect early life in Kentucky. Entry to park grounds is free. A small admission fee is charged for entry into the fort and the mansion museum.
