In the on-highway market, our flagship Kenworth T680 has become a favorite of both fleet managers and drivers with its excellent performance, fuel efficiency and interior comfort. Available in day cab, 52-inch sleeper and 76-inch sleeper con-figurations, now Kenworth is bringing the T680 Advantage to market with the industry-leading aerodynamic T680 as the foundation. A special package of factory-installed aero-dynamic treatments – coupled with an optimized powertrain combination of the PACCAR MX-13 engine integrated with the Eaton Fuller Advantage 10-speed automated transmis-sion – make the T680 Advantage our most fuel-efficient truck.

On the vocational side, the T880 is now in full production for customers who demand a durable and reliable truck, including dump, mixer, refuse, and heavy haul applications. We’ve added a 52-inch sleeper option for the T880 providing customers in heavy haul and oil patch applications with a comfortable and spacious sleeper that drivers will appreciate.

The T880 is standard with the PACCAR MX-13 engine, rated up to 500 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque. Customers appreciate the engine’s fuel efficiency, higher horsepower and torque ratings, excellent reliability, and quiet opera-tion in all Kenworth Class 8 models.

We also continue to expand our natural gas truck offerings. The T660, T800 short hood and W900S are available with the Cummins Westport ISX12 G heavy duty natural gas engine. This year we plan to expand our well-rounded natural gas truck offerings to the T680 and T880.

Kenworth K270 and K370 cabovers are sporting a new exterior and interior designed to enhance driver productiv-ity, visibility and comfort. These cabovers are equipped with the 6.7-liter PACCAR PX-7 engine with power ratings from 200 to 250-hp and up to 660 lb-ft of torque, for excellent pick-up-and-delivery performance in urban operations with a tight curb-to-curb turning radius.

Wisconsin Kenworth received the prestigious 2013 Kenworth Dealer of the Year Award for the United States and Canada at the Kenworth Dealer Meeting held in the Seattle area.

For the second time in three years, MHC Kenworth – Kansas City was named Kenworth’s 2013 PACCAR Engine Dealer of the Year for the United States and Canada.

The award recognizes the Kenworth dealer that effectively communicates the PACCAR MX-13 engine’s many ben-efits and ably assists customers in specifying the engine in their new Kenworth Class 8 trucks. Kenworth K270 and K370 Cabovers Feature New Look, Added Options

With momentum building for its line of Class 6 and 7 cabover trucks, Kenworth has made further innova-tions to its K270 and K370 models. While the new exterior is an important addition, Kenworth also

has incorporated many new features to make its cabovers even more productive.

Inside the cab, a new dash and gauge cluster provide more information than ever before. Both truck models feature a new option — single driver and passenger seats with a large console with cup holders in between.

Powered by the 6.7-liter PACCAR PX-7 engine, which has power ratings from 200 to 250-hp, and up to 660 lb-ft of torque, the K270 and K370 are now available with a 6-speed Allison trans-mission, joining a 5-speed transmission already available.

New this year are Dana axles as well as front air disc brakes for improved stopping power and longer brake life. Kenworth has added an “electronic braking module” that will allow for the addition of stability control later this year.

Kenworth T880 Adds 52-Inch Mid-Roof Sleeper

The new Kenworth T880 is now available with the Kenworth 52-inch mid-roof sleeper. The new T880 sleeper option provides vocational customers in heavy haul and oil patch applications with a durable

and reliable truck equipped with a comfortable and spa-cious sleeper that drivers appreciate.

The mid-roof sleeper features a liftable lower bunk and upper storage units on the sleeper’s back wall, including hanging storage. A bunk heater, flat screen TV and premium sound system can also be added.

Kenworth T680 Advantage Now Available For Order

The Kenworth T680 Advantage – Kenworth’s new, most fuel-efficient truck – is now available for fleets and owner-operators. The T680 Advantage offers up to a 5 percent* fuel economy enhancement. It features a special pack-age of extra, factory-installed aerodynamic treatments along with the optimized powertrain combination of the PACCAR MX-13 engine integrated with the Eaton Fuller Advantage™ 10-speed automated transmission and a 6x2 axle configuration.

The aerodynamic treatments include longer side extenders for the 76-inch sleeper, lower cab fairing extenders, front air dam, aerodynamic mud flaps, rear fairing without steps coupled with an air deflector, exhaust cut out covers, and optional wheel covers for drive tires. Other fuel-efficient specs for the T680 Advantage include speed control man-agement, wide-base tires, tire pressure monitoring system, and the new Kenworth Idle Management System.*Individual fuel economy improvement will vary depending on use, road conditions and other factors.

Leading the Way Nation’s largest roofing distributor to add 53 more T880s to its fleet in 2014

Kenworth’s first full-production Kenworth T880 was recently delivered to ABC Supply Co., Inc., one of the largest distributors of exterior building products in the nation, at its headquarters in Beloit, Wis.

The first full-production Kenworth T880 is equipped with a PACCAR MX-13 engine rated at 430 hp and 1,550 lb-ft of torque, a 10-speed manual transmission and a 116.5-inch BBC hood optimized for the PACCAR MX-13. ABC Supply’s new T880 is equipped with a 59-foot Hiab XS 335 crane. ABC Supply plans to add 53 more Kenworth T880s this year.

“The Kenworth T880 is a rugged and durable truck that can get the job done in our demanding application,” says Mike Boggs, director of operations for ABC Supply. “The T880 has the spe-cific frame, cab and drivetrain layout to allow for the proper length and turning radius. The engineers at Kenworth were able to help us with important details on chassis layout which in turn helped us produce a unit that fits our needs.”

Rugged reliability The Kenworth T880s, which ABC Supply purchased through Wisconsin Kenworth – Milwaukee, will be assigned to the company’s various branches across the United States and used to deliver roofing, siding, windows and other building supplies. The company also oper-ates more than 100 Kenworth T370, T680 and T800 trucks in its fleet.

also includes an air-assisted hydraulic clutch, complex reflector headlamps, 5-piece Metton® hood for easier and faster repairs, and new lightweight, factory-installed lift axles. The T880 uses Kenworth’s 2.1-meter

Last July, Woody Bogler Trucking, in Rosebud, Mo., purchased two of the first production Kenworth T680s with the new 52-inch mid-roof sleeper for its regional hauling operations. Spec’d with the PACCAR MX-13 engine, rated at 455 hp, and driven through an Eaton® UltraShift® Plus 13-speed transmission, the fleet’s T680s are pulling end-dump trailers with full-load bulk products.

“We had standardized on the Kenworth T660 because of the great fuel savings we were achieving,” says Tracy Bogler, president. “We were getting four-tenths of a mile per gallon better with the T660s and PACCAR MX engine over the other trucks in our fleet. Then Kenworth came out with the T680 52-inch mid-roof sleeper. Now I’m hoping for even big-ger savings.”

With 16 new T680 mid-roof sleepers operating in the fleet, Bogler says some of the new trucks are getting over 8 mpg, with an average of 6.8 mpg across the entire fleet of 142 trucks.

“I’m making the T680 mid-roof sleeper our new standard going forward,” says Bogler. “It’s a good truck and drivers love it. I have 55 more T680s on order this year.”

With the upcoming order, Bogler changed only one spec, from 6 x 4 to 6 x 2 rear ends, for only one live axle instead of two. “I hope we’ll see even more fuel improvement,” says Bogler. “Fuel efficiency is top priority for us.”

Excellent regional haul performanceDrivers have had plenty of time to appreciate the ameni-ties of the T680 mid-roof configuration. “They like the bigger, wider cab and extra roomy space between seats,” says Bogler. “They like the extra headroom. Mostly they like the way the T680s handle and drive. PACCAR MX-13 engine power is good, and visibility is excellent with the shorter hood.”

Attracts top driversBogler acknowledges that it’s easier attracting and retaining good drivers when operat-ing a fleet of new Kenworth

trucks. “Drivers like Kenworth T680s and T660s, and that’s helped with driver retention,” he says. “Kenworth and PACCAR MX engines are as good as they come. As far as reliability goes, we’ve been running the PACCAR MX engine since 2011 and my drivers appreciate the power. I doubt that I could get any of my drivers out of those trucks now.”

Offering a generous pay package and benefits can get a company only so far when it comes to attracting and retaining drivers, says David Messmore, president of Sunnyside, Wash.-based DLM Trucking. “We have always run PACCAR equipment, but these new T680s are the best trucks we’ve ever seen,” he says.

“There has been a huge boost in driver comfort. The one-piece windshield is great for visibility and drivers can stand comfort-ably in the cab and sleeper. We spec’d the swivel chair and rotat-ing table, plus have refrigera-tors and microwaves on board,” he says. “Our drivers absolutely love the T680s and how comfortable they are. Other drivers are taking notice and calling to see if we have any openings. We now have a waiting list of drivers — that’s a good problem to have.”

Twenty years ago, four generations of Messmores decid-ed to move from Oxnard, Calif., to a 200-acre farm in Sunnyside, Wash. “We had a successful trucking com-pany down in Oxnard,” says Messmore. “Dad (Larry Messmore) wanted to start a farming operation with our entrie family, and see if trucking would also work up here.” Using its own trucks to move its produce down to Southern California, other farmers quickly took notice and began coordinating loads.

Fuel-efficient PACCAR MX-13 engine“Today, we have 35 trucks a week, nearly all Kenworth T680s, headed down to California with refrigerated trail-ers,” Messmore says. “When the price of fuel began to climb and California started implementing the mandate for fuel-efficient trucks, we determined the Kenworth T680 was the truck to try.”

Messmore says the decision has been paying off. “The fuel economy is tremendous. We’re getting 1 to 1½ mpg better with the T680s and that means more than $400,000 a year in fuel savings for us.”

The reefer fleet now has 27 T680 76-inch sleepers pow-ered by the PACCAR MX-13 engine rated at 455 hp and driven through automated transmissions. While improving fuel economy was a top criterion in selecting

the T680s, Messmore says, “It was important for us to have a truck that kept our drivers comfortable.”

Smooth, quiet and comfortable John Clayton, a 20-year veteran behind the wheel, came to work for

DLM about a year ago and says, “Hands down, the T680 is the nicest truck I’ve ever driven. I almost forget I’m driving a big rig. The T680 is more like a motor coach, it’s so smooth and quiet.”

Clayton says the sleeper and space between the seats is impressive. “Before I used to eat all my meals at truck stops. But with a microwave and the comfortable living arrange-ment, along with the folding desk on the T680, I load the refrigerator before I head out and eat my meals on board. My monthly food budget is about 1⁄3 of what it used to be, and I’m eating healthier.”

Making Old Trucks New AgainLogging fleet adds Kenworth W900L Glider Kit truck for reliability, durability and nostalgic appeal

The Pardovich family has owned and operated PER Trucking since 1980. Originally a diesel engine rebuilding shop — PER = Precision Engine Rebuilders — the Elmira, Ore., company evolved into a log hauling fleet around 1985 with the help of an old Kenworth truck.

“One day my father came into the shop and said he saw an old logging truck sitting in a field,” recalls Dan Pardovich, who joined the family business in 1983 while a junior in high school. “He told us to see if we could buy it and rebuild it between engine jobs. After we rebuilt it, a logger called and said, ‘I hear you have a logging truck. Do you want to haul logs?’”

Today, the company operates a logging fleet of 21 Kenworth trucks (T800s and W900s) and Pardovich esti-mates he and his brothers have rebuilt 35 trucks over the years, all Kenworths.

Durable, working trucks “Last year, we built a Kenworth W900L Glider Kit truck,” says Pardovich, who put the newly rebuilt, showroom-quality truck into logging operation as soon as it was finished. While glider kit trucks turn a lot of heads, “Kenworth trucks are built to work,” he says. “My brother Ryan and I ran a couple loads just to set the scales and put it through its paces. Next day we gave it to the driver and haven’t had any problems since. We expect the same hard-working reliability and performance from a glider kit truck as any other Kenworth truck.

“From the time we started in the trucking business, our entire fleet has been Kenworths and Kenworth rebuilds. All big working trucks. Our logging trucks are out there getting dirty, getting rock chips, and taking a lot of severe abuse. For durability and toughness, you can’t beat Kenworth trucks,” he said.

Latest amenities and updatesFor fleets and owner operators who want to make old trucks ‘new’ again, Kenworth offers glider kits for the T660, T800 and W900L models, in all sleeper sizes. Kenworth glider kits feature the latest amenities and updates in each of the three models.

“We use rolling gliders,” says Pardovich. “The way the glider kit program works is, you have to have two major

components from a donor truck. We used the engine and transmission.”

the fleet, says Pardovich, who is already working on his next glider kit. “After three or four years, we might resell them. Kenworths hold their value and there’s always a good market for them. But in general, we keep them working in the fleet.

“Kenworths have good longevity and I feel they’re the best trucks for what we do. For me, there’s only one truck and it’s Kenworth.”

Paper Transport Adds 20 Natural Gas-Powered Kenworth T660s Paper Transport became one of Kenworth’s first customers to run CNG-powered Kenworth T660s with the Cummins Westport ISX12 G natural gas engine in 2013.

“We believe natural gas is here to stay, particularly given all of the natural gas production happening in the United States,” says Jeff Shefchik, president of Green Bay, Wis.-based regional truckload carrier Paper Transport Inc. “We’ve been pleased with the performance of our natural gas-pow-ered Kenworth trucks.”

Paper Transport hauls paper products for a major paper producer in the state of Wisconsin to warehouses and dis-tribution centers throughout the Midwest and southeastern United States, as well as building products, furniture and products for a major beverage company throughout the Midwest and Southeast. “Our customers appreciate getting deliveries from trucks with quieter engines that emit fewer greenhouse gases; trucks that are easier on the environ-ment,” Shefchik says.

Paper Transport’s first 10 natural gas-powered Kenworth T660s came equipped with the 350-hp Cummins Westport ISX12 G, Kenworth 62-inch AeroCab® sleepers and Agility Fuel Systems™ tanks, one with 75 diesel gallon equivalent (DGE) of CNG mounted to the back of the cab, and the second a 40 DGE tank mounted to the driver side. Kenworth T680 with PACCAR MX-13 Engine Lowers Costs for Oregon Open-Deck CarrierCEO Rick Williams of Central Oregon Truck Company (COTC) says the performance of the Kenworth T680 equipped with a 76-inch sleeper and a 455-hp PACCAR MX-13 engine taught him that he didn’t have to sacrifice performance for fuel and weight savings by choosing a 13-liter engine over a 15-liter engine. Not even when his company’s trucks haul open-deck, specialized or over-sized loads over mountain passes in the West.

Kenworth T680s Help Petroleum Hauler Enhance Fuel Economy by 1 MPG, Keep Driver Turnover LowCousins Craig Terpening and Rich Terpening Jr. assumed the reigns of their 97-year old family business, Terpening Trucking, in 2010. Since then, they have grown the fleet from 32 to 57 petroleum haulers, with a five-year plan to grow to 100 trucks.

The company has been running Kenworth T800s as its standard truck. “We’re now moving into the Kenworth T680 and it’s been a great decision,” says Rich. “We deliver to convenience stores and retail distributorships, and the statement those T680s make about quality means something.”

Impressing customers is one thing, impressing drivers is another. “We tested a T680 for a year,” says Rich. “Everyone raved about the visibility out of the truck, and the guys who drove at night noticed the huge improvement in night-time vision with the headlight system. The T680’s quietness and ride was impressive.”

With key drivers convinced, the Terpenings ordered 15 more T680s. “Everyone loves the trucks,” says Rich. “We’ve always said that part of the equation is to operate the best equipment in order to attract the best drivers,” says Rich. “Most of our drivers have been with us for over 15 years, and with the new infusion of drivers due to our growth, our aver-age is still 12 years with the company.

“Perhaps what we love most about the T680s is how much more economical they are. We run heavy — 107,000 pounds — and our T800s with 485 horsepower engines average between 5.2 and 5.4 mpg in regional deliveries. The T680s, with the same horsepower rating, are averaging between 6.0 and 6.5 mpg — that’s up to a mile per gallon boost. It’s amazing what that means in fuel savings, per truck, since each rig runs about 100,000 miles per year.”

Kenworth T880 Turning Heads, Lowering Fuel Bills for K Redden Trucking“Other drivers are envious,” says Keith Redden, owner of K Redden Trucking in Floyds Knobs, Ind., when talking about the new Kenworth T880. Redden runs 27 trucks, most equipped with 20-yard dumps hauling aggregate and asphalt. His company was one of the first fleets to take early delivery of the new Kenworth vocational model last summer.

The T880 dump is powered by the PACCAR MX-13 engine rated at 455-hp, and driven through a 10-speed transmis-sion. “We have more than 30,000 miles under the hood and the truck is working great,” says Redden. “One of our senior drivers is piloting the truck and he is the envy of the company. Drivers from other companies, and contractors, are always coming up to the truck, wanting to inspect the new model, inside and out. We can’t say enough good things about the truck. Since I’ve driven it as well, I can tell you it’s very com-fortable and easy to drive. And boy is it quiet.”

At 50,000 miles per year, that means about a $5,000 annual savings per truck.

From Oil Patch to Over-The-Road, B&R Eckel’s Succeeds with Diverse Fleet of Kenworth Trucks“Walter” is its name, and it’s a behemoth. A 1978 Kenworth 953 — a six-wheel drive conventional capable of hauling loads in excess of 160,000 pounds. With more than 2 million miles under the hood, Walter still moves oilrigs over the most treacherous off-road terrain the folks at B&R Eckel’s can throw its way.

“And it symbolizes why we run Kenworths,” says Darren Smith, fleet manager for the Bonnyville, Alberta-based trucking company. “Kenworths are tough. They’re durable, and at the end of their cycle with us, they can command a high resale value in excess of 20 percent more than a com-parably spec’d truck.”

One of the most diverse trucking businesses in Canada, 55 percent of B&R Eckel’s loads are destined for oil fields, while 45 percent are general freight. It operates 360 Class 6-8 trac-tors, including Kenworth C500s, T800s, T680s and T370s.

For the oil patch, “The C500 is our staple heavy rig mover,” says Smith. “To support those trucks we run a lot of Kenworth

T800s as picker trucks and winch tractors. We’ve seen the new Kenworth T880, and we’re fired up about it, too. The reaction from our first driver of that rig was, ‘wow, this is comfortable, like driving a big car. It doesn’t feel like a truck at all.’”

For the over-the-road fleet, the Kenworth T680 has been in operation as day cabs in regional operations. B&R Eckel’s was also the first in Canada to take delivery of the new Kenworth T680 52-inch sleeper. “We’re using that model for longer haul runs and anticipate it may become our flag-ship truck,” says Smith. “The visibility, the comfort, the qui-etness of the truck is unmatched.”

For local deliveries, Smith says the company utilizes Kenworth T370s and “they’re working beautifully.”

Kenworth T370s Help Protect Township of South Frontenac, Ont.South Frontenac is a township in Ontario, Canada, that consists of 440 square miles and 18,000 full-time residents, ballooning to 30,000 in the summer months. Smack dab in the middle is Frontenac Provincial Park – an area dotted with lakes and canoe routes through 22 of those lakes. Hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and camping abound. For the thousands of visitors and those who have summer cottages joining the full-timers in South Frontenac, it’s paradise.

“It really is a special place,” says Rick Chesebrough, chief for the South Frontenac Fire Department that protects

the township with a fleet of predominately Kenworth trucks configured as pumpers, tankers and rescue vehicles.

“We’re running mostly Kenworth medium duty trucks – the T370 as our latest purchases,” Chesebrough says. Five fire rescue vehicles include two Kenworth T370s with another recently purchased and awaiting a custom body. The single-axle rescue vehicles are built with 18-foot van bodies with rear walk-in. Heavy hydraulics power a ‘jaws of life’ life-saving cutter, and tower lighting extends 10 feet above the rescue unit. “Those are our go-to vehicles for accident response and water rescues,” says Chesebrough.

The tanker fleet features three Kenworth tandem-axle T370s that each carry 2,500 gallons of water. The latest Kenworth T370 tanker is powered with a PACCAR PX-9 engine rated at 380-hp, while the new T370 rescue chassis features the PACCAR PX-9 engine rated at 350 hp. Two 2006 Kenworth single-axle T300s with 800-gallon tanks, coupled with 30-gallon foam tanks for fire suppres-sion, serve as pumpers.

“We’ve found the Kenworths to be just fantastic,” says Chesebrough. “They have great visibility and a sharp turn-ing radius and a cab that can be con-figured for the work we do. Matagrano Inc. Celebrates 40 Years in Style, Delivers Beverages with Kenworth T370s“Every day, tourists come up to our drivers and ask if they can get their pictures taken with our trucks,” says Frank Matagrano, co-owner of Matagrano Inc., an Anheuser-Busch InBev distributor that delivers more than 5 million cases each year to 5,000 customers — ranging from mom-and-pop liquor stores to grocery chains and big box stores — in the San Francisco Bay Area. “That says something about the quality equipment we run. It really makes us proud of our Kenworths and gives our drivers a sense of pride.”

Celebrating its 40th year of business, the company has tried different brand trucks over the years, but is now standard-izing on the Kenworth T370. “They’re built like a brick - they don’t fall apart and they’re reliable,” says Matagrano. “I can tell you we’ve never towed a Kenworth home, but we have towed other brands back to the yard.”

According to Matagrano, reliability is a critical factor. “Some drivers work four 10-hour days and they get to choose how

they’re paid — by the hour, or by the case delivered. So, if their pay is based on deliveries, you can bet they want to climb into a truck that they can count on. And, one that’s comfort-able. Most of our drivers make between 12 to 35 stops per day. That’s a lot of get in and get out and the drivers say the trucks are as comfortable as they are attention-getting.”

The latest of the 17 Kenworth T370s are equipped with PACCAR PX-9 engines, rated at 300-hp, driven through auto-matic transmissions, and feature 12-bay bodies. The com-pany also runs T370 tractors with 16- to 18-bay delivery trail-ers. For “big-box” store deliveries, the company uses several Kenworth T660 day cabs, hauling 45-foot bay van trailers.

PACCAR MX-13 Engine Customers Reaping Benefits with Kenworth TrucksRobbie Wood, owner of Robbie D. Wood Trucking, oper-ates 140 trucks out of Dolomite, Ala. He’s has been running PACCAR MX engines for three years. “We’re now into our third buying period with Kenworth and the PACCAR MX engine, the latest being the Kenworth T680 with PACCAR MX-13. It’s what we’re now standardized with as both have proven their worth to us.”

Wood says the Kenworth T680 and PACCAR MX-13 engine have given him a full mile per gallon gain in its dry van fleet. “Our best driver has been averaging 7.8 mpg,” he says. “But our fleet average is 7.2 mpg, and that’s a big difference over the 6.2 mpg we were getting with another aerodynamic model, coupled with a different engine manufacturer. That means an extra $11,000 in fuel savings per truck.”

Valley Proteins Chooses PacLease CNG VehiclesRichard Evans is fleet manager for Valley Proteins, one of the largest U.S. rendering companies that process and recycle animal byproducts to create renewable resources, such as feed and oil for biodiesel. With a fleet of 455 Class 8 trucks nationwide, the decision to put in 10 CNG trucks in its Gastonia, N.C., facility was the first step in the com-pany’s move toward natural gas vehicles.

Gabrielli Kenworth Provides Premium Level Support New York City can be a hard and costly place to do busi-ness for truck operators, says Romolo Gabrielli, general manager of Gabrielli Kenworth of New Jersey – Dayton. Fleets and their drivers need a place that’s convenient and offers service and support that can help them get back on the road quickly.

With real estate in the New York City area at a premium, finding the right place to locate a new truck dealership wasn’t easy. It needed to offer easy access to the main routes into and out of the city, and enough space to pro-vide truck drivers ample room to maneuver and park their trucks and trailers. The location also needed to be close to warehouses and other businesses, as well as motels to pro-vide comfortable accommodations should drivers need a place to stay overnight while their trucks are being repaired.

All that, and more, is within close proximity to Gabrielli Kenworth of New Jersey – Dayton’s new 17-acre site on Route 130 North, about 2 miles northeast of Exits 8A and 9 off of the New Jersey Turnpike in Dayton, N.J. The 55,000 square-foot facility features 20 service bays and is located in the central part of New Jersey in a growing industrial area of South Brunswick.

“We’ve gotten a lot of compliments about our new loca-tion,” says Armando Gabrielli, Romolo’s father and deal-er principal of Gabrielli Kenworth, which includes five dealer locations in the region. The service bays feature overhead lube services to help speed up routine main-tenance services.
