King Edward VI School SocietyAs a parent at King Edwards School you are automatically a member of KESSOC and we warmly welcome you to join us at one of the many events that take place during the year.

Who and What are we?KESSOC is the King Edward VI School Society. It functions to support the school by uniting parents, past pupils, governors, teaching and administrative staff in fund raising and social events.

Social ActivitiesThe social committee organises a number of social events throughout the year such as New Parents’ Wine Tasting Evening in the Autumn term and a popular Quiz Evening in the Spring term. The highlight of the social calendar has to be the Summer Ball held on alternate years. The Society supports many of the School’s activities by providing refreshments and hospitality at concerts and Parents Evenings (Hospitality team).

The Prayer Group meets twice a term, details can be found on the KESSOC website.

Fund Raising In the past 5 years we have raised funds for the following items: cricket pavilion at Wellington Sports Ground, dance equipment, fish tank for lower school, chemical element display for the Science dept., digital camera for Photo Club, portable cricket nets, music stands, kayaks, Cookery Club induction hobs, DofE thermal gilets, amps and speakers for Rock Academy, Fencing Club equipment, CD listening post for Music dept, entrance fee (loaned) to Young Enterprise Scheme and a garden for the Green Team.

OBNO The Society raises funds by selling on your behalf, various items in the OBNO (out-grown but not out-worn) shop such as school clothing and PE kit, as well as walking boots, ski jackets and wet suits. OBNO is open Weds 1.00-2.00pm. For more info please contact Sonia Ohri by email [email protected]

KESLOTTO (formerly Kestravaganza) is the Society’s monthly lottery and offers the chance to win cash prizes. Each month there is a prize draw and a percentage of the money raised is returned in winnings. The balance will go to KESSOC. If you would

like to participate it costs £10 for 10 entries (1 ball per month for 10 monthly draws, £20 for 2 balls per month, etc.) If you would like further details please email Jill at [email protected] or purchase on KesPay before 30th November 2013.

Any monies made by KESSOC will eventually benefit the school. At certain events (i.e. the School Ball auction) KESSOC raises money for the School Charities.

KESSOC CouncilThe Council oversees each of the core groups or activities. Additionally the Council co-ordinates with the Headmaster and agrees upon areas that deserve the financial support of KESSOC.

How can I get involved?First, we would love to see you supporting the social events organised by the Society. It is an ideal way to meet new friends and catch up with old friends and thus lifting the community spirit of the school.

Secondly, we would value your help no matter how large or small. We realise that lives are busy but even if you could spare time with setting up an event without ongoing commitment it would be greatly appreciated.

Further details for all the above can be found on the school website - www.kes.hants.sch.uk (>Parents >KESSOC)

We’d love to hear from you, email [email protected]
