Dante Filter Calibration Process “Dante is one of the workhorse diagnostics of NIF — it participates in

almost every shot.” - Alastair Moore – RI for Dante. Measures X-Ray temperatures.

Resolved Dante Filter calibration process and validity.

Developed thickness plots to calculate which vendor to use based on success rate of calibration results and provided feedback to each vendor.

Worked with supplier to develop a new filter container with vendor to better protect and preserve filters.

Purchased dry boxes and sent to BNL to streamline handling of filters

Results – Cost Savings due to improvements - ordering requirements decreased over time: FY12(648), FY13 (250), FY14(90), FY15 (60)

New Design Validation Work previously handled by senior engineer - Mike Richardson.

Established new/expanded material planning by validating new designs of Nose Caps, Nose Cones and Kinematic Bases for 170+ shots in the past two years. Sources used – E-BOMs, GLOVIA, Shot Planner, spreadsheets, TDF

Quality Assurance Plan

Significant decrease in shot delays since taking on this project as noted by NIF Target Diagnostics Operations Manager Bob Ehrlich

POC for engineering and NIF Factory technicians

Leading Multiple Projects Advanced Radiographic Capability (ARC)

Established a KANBAN system comprised of over 300 line items.

Utilized GLOVIA work orders/shop packets to kit over 70 different assemblies and provided updates to the status of parts for each during the process.

Established a staging area in the NIF operations building to facilitate the flow of parts going in and out of NIF for ARC construction and LRU installation

Memo of Appreciation from J.B. Mcleod to Akima: “…Kevin brought an exceptional level of structure and organization

to the ARC production team in this role. Ultimately, Kevin’s contributions were a necessary component for the ARC LRU team to meet the key milestone for LRU installation on schedule…”

DIM Carts National Ignition Facility and Photon Science Award:

“Development of a Plan to Retrofit All DIM Carts”

Provided an initial cost estimate Scheduled coordination meetings to establish milestones and plan

budgets for current and subsequent FY. Identified shortages and placed orders to support building

Equatorial and Polar Drive Units as well as entire Carts. Utilized GLOVIA work orders to track all parts. Coordinated movement of material that included secondary

operations; baking, vapor degreasing etc… Kitted over six DIM Carts and 20 Drive Units comprising of over 130

components per assembly. Provided updates to the status of parts for each during the process.
