DUPONT KEVLAR® DRIVES NEW ARMOR PROTECTION SYSTEM FOR PASSENGER VEHICLES

WILMINGTON, Del—DuPont KEVLAR® has developed a new technology solution now being used in a super-lightweight composite armor system uniquely

designed for use in passenger vehicles and light trucks.

DuPont provided O’Gara-Hess & Eisenhardt—the world’s largest and most experienced developer of armoring systems for passenger vehicles—with new

KEVLAR® technology which O’Gara-Hess & Eisenhardt developed into a new composite armor system called IMPAK®. Available for O’Gara armored cars on a

worldwide basis, the newly developed IMPAK® Advanced Vehicle Armor (AVA) is a thermoformable system that permits enhanced molding of panels for precise

fittings in today’s aerodynamically designed vehicles.

This life-protecting innovation that uses new DuPont KEVLAR® technology produces advanced vehicle armor that adds less than 40 kg to the average sedan and

provides ballistic integrity that defeats multiple impacts from a .44 Magnum handgun and all lesser threats. DuPont KEVLAR® technology has transformed the

era of heavier, less responsive armored vehicles into a new age of armor vehicles that weigh less and provide optimum protection without compromising vehi-

cle performance.

“We applied a very unique KEVLAR® technology solution to create a new level of performance in the critical, high-intensity applications of the national and

international armored vehicle marketplace,” said Dale Outhous, global marketing manager, DuPont KEVLAR®.

Because KEVLAR® brand fibers are five times stronger than steel on an equal-weight basis, the IMPAK® AVA system provides a unique lightweight strength that

turns passenger cars and light trucks into nimble, responsive vehicles with the highest level of protection.

Vehicles equipped with the IMPAK® AVA system have excellent getaway capability and reduced wear and tear on brakes, drive train and suspension. In addi-

tion, the IMPAK® system handles all weather challenges because KEVLAR® performs in temperatures exceeding 400ºF or as low as –50ºC.

IMPAK® AVA carries the DuPont KEVLAR® Quality License label and is produced only with DuPont Quality License supply partners to ensure consistent high

quality in every phase of materials selection and system production.

DuPont KEVLAR® performance technologies are present in hundreds of dynamic business and consumer applications in which the combined benefits of great

strength and lightness can transform the ordinary into the extraordinary.
