Dear parents, What a week! Once again, Ark Burlington Danes Primary has delivered exceptional learning experiences for all our children. Some of the highlights included the wonderful Spellathon that was coordinated by the Parents’ Association. Every child in reception and year 1 took part by learning their spellings and proving how well they could recite them in lessons. I would like to thank the parents who helped to organise this event. A huge thank you also goes to mums, dads, aunties, uncles, grandparents and friends who sponsored our children and helped to raise money for our school. We had a very exciting moment this week when our incubating eggs in reception began to hatch! A literacy lesson was interrupted by the arrival of a new-born chick emerging from its shell, much to the delight of the children and our teachers! Following and monitoring their progress has really (indeed, literally!) brought our life cycle topic to life. Finally, we have been given more information about how the government is introducing new ways to help parents with childcare costs. Whether you have toddlers or teens, you could get support. A new website has been set up to help you work out for what you and your family is eligible. This website is: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/ I recommend you visit this page to check what is available to you and your family. If you need any help understanding any of the support, please do not hesitate to get some help from us at school. We look forward to seeing you next week for our final week of this half term. Wishing you a happy weekend. With all good wishes, Mark Pritchard Acting Principal

Nursery Reception
Potter class has been learning about the life cycle of the flower and its parts: root, stem, leave, flower, petals, etc. Although we got a bit dirty, we really enjoyed playing with soil in the classroom and learning about how to use gardening tools and plant some seeds. We know what plants need in order to grow and we should look after them as they are living things. We have also been creating our own flowers using cupcakes cases, buttons and paint and we tried really hard to write about the steps that you need to follow in order to plant some seeds. In Phonics, we had a go at writing some of the words that Fred, our frog, used to talk using his 'Fred Talk' and we were brilliant at it!
This week a little collection of eggs have joined us in Reception, and we have been very excited to see fluffy chicks gradually hatching out of them! We have written about how to take care of them, drawn pictures of the life cycle of a chicken, and created fluffy paintings of chicks with cotton wool. We have worked hard to welcome them to our classroom and to make sure they are safe and happy. In maths we have continued learning about money. We had fun playing a game where we threw a die to see how many pennies we could pay for different items with. Some of us even bought all the items in the game! We made our own class bus in exploration time, taking turns driving it and paying the bus driver for our tickets. In literacy we have been learning about riddles, and we have learnt one about a cat and one about a snake. We have been talking about how adjectives are important when writing a riddle, and we used adjectives to write descriptions of our friends in class. We would like to give a gentle reminder that home learning needs to be completed and given in to us each Tuesday. We would also like to extend a big thank you to everyone who has worked so hard practicing their assembly lines. We hope you enjoyed it!
Year 1 In Literacy, we have been focusing on some of our Year 1 grammar objectives. Looking at why we use ‘because’ in a sentence and then demonstrating that we can use ‘because’ independently in our sentences. We have also been learning about bossy verbs i.e. what they are and why they are beneficial to our instruction writing. In Maths, we have been continuing our work on subtraction, using the dienes and place value charts to subtract numbers using regrouping. We have also started subtracting two 2 digit numbers that do not require regrouping which allowed us at the end of the week to solve subtraction word problems. In Topic, Pirate Pete has been having a few more problems on his ship. He needed us to work out which materials he should use to put on the end of his telescope that would best allow him to see through. This allowed us to talk about the difference between transparent, translucent, and opaque materials. Our designs for our pirate t-shirts are coming along very well and we are excited to see what they will all look like in our pirate fashion show after the holidays.

Sainsbury Vouchers
You are no longer able to get these vouchers in the shops. However, if you’ve still got any stashed away it’s not too late to bring them into school. We’ll be continuing to collect these until 30th June.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far we’ve got a good amount of vouchers, which we’ll be able to use to purchase few useful things for around school.
Breakfast Club
Breakfast club will begin running from the 18th April 2017 for the next two terms, until the Summer holidays.
This will be a trial period, which we hope to continue should it prove to be successful.
We hope this will provide you with further options and flexibility for childcare, which supplements our current after school club and P3 offerings.
The Breakfast club will run from
7:15-8:15 each morning.
The following options exist:
£20 per week, breakfast included.
£15 per week, no breakfast included (you could bring your own or eat before attending).
£5 per day, breakfast included.
Payment is made in advance of attending sessions. Payment can be brought along to the breakfast club for the first week. Thereafter, this can be handed to Mr Currie in the office.
The doors leading directly to the hall will be used to enter breakfast club. Follow the pavement past the main school entrance and you’ll be greeted by a member of staff.
Please note that children arriving at or after 8am will not be admitted to breakfast club, they should enter the school by the usual entrance.
We are trialling this club in response to parent requests for such a service and welcome any other suggestions you

Du Cane Road Gate Please accept our apologies for the issues we’ve been experiencing with our entry system to Du Cane road.
We know this is really frustrating and has been ongoing for some time. We are trying everything within our power to speed up the process of getting the system fixed.
We appreciated your continued patience and will endeavour to keep the disruption to a minimum.
