us,butmuchmorethanus).Moreover,someofourmembersneverworshipoutsidethelocalset-ting.Ithinkitisextremelyimportanttobeawareofdifferentcongrega-tions,theirministriesandstylesofworshipanditisessentialtoworshipwithourfellowDisciplesinDistrict,RegionalandGeneralsettings,orelsewestartthinkingourlittlecongrega-tionisthewholechurch-andthatisahugemistake.Bytheway,IhopetoseemanyofyouattheGeneralAssemblyoftheChristianChurch(DisciplesofChrist)inNashville.Thereisagreatmissionandamightyvoiceofpraisebeingofferedupbythewholechurchtoourpow-erfulandlovingGodandwecannotbepartofitbyclosingthedoorsandwindowsaroundourlittlechurches.Let’sstepout,reachout,shoutoutandbecomepartofthewholechurchofJesusChristministeringtothewhole,belovedpeopleofGod.

areprayersforthemissionaries,and
ministersofthechurch,sometimesforourGeneralMinisterandPresi-dent–andeventheRegionalMinis-ter(youcanimaginewhatthatdoesformyapplausemeter).Eventhespokenpastoralprayers(bettercalledthe“PrayersofthePeople”)cancen-tertotallyonthepeopleandeventsofthelocalscene.Ithinkthisvergesonderelictionofdutyfortheoneleadingtheprayers.Thankgoodnessthe“Lord’sPrayer”isusuallyprayedandthistakesusbeyondourselvestothecomingofthekingdom,thereignofGod,thedoingofGod’swillonearth(alloftheearth),theforgive-nessofsinsanddeliverancefromevil.I’veheardthattheologianKarlBarthsaidsermonsshouldbewrittenwith

gatheredforapartyonthelawnfollowingworship.

ebratedthegenerosityandmoneyraisedintheir“EasterBasket

Christ)inPennsylvaniaIcontinuetobeexcitedbyoursharedministryacrossthisvastregion.Justthis
pastmonth,onSaturday,May14,theRegionalBoard
gatheredattheLaurelviewConferenceCentertocon-
siderthebusinessandmissionoftheregionalchurch.
Iampleasedtoreportthatourfinancialsituationhas
improveddramaticallyandcontinuestoshowpromise
eventhoughoverallgivingtoDMFisdown.Withallcur-
rentinvoicespaid,andnecessaryfundsinthebank,the
Boardmadethedecisiontopayone-halfofourBoard
ofChurchExtensionLineofCreditobligationreducingit
toapproximately$35,000.Severalimportantdecisions
weremadeatourmostrecentmeeting,includinga2%cost-of-livingincreaseforallregionalstaffwiththeex-
clusionofSteveHellner-Burris,ourcurrentbookkeeper,
whohasbeeninhispositionlessthanoneyear.Thatis
nottosayhowgratefulweareforhisexpertiseincon-
tinuingtoprovideaccuratereportsonourfiscalhealth.
FormorethanthreeyearsStevehasbeenaleaderin
helpingusunderstandthefinancialdilemmawefaced
backin2008andhowweshouldmoveforwardtocor-
rectit.
TheRegionalMinisterSearchCommittee,underthe
carefulandwiseleadershipofCoraRussell,reported
thatfinalinterviewswiththetwotopcandidateswilltake
placeinJune.Itisanticipatedthatwewillhaveaspecial
calledRegionalBoardMeetingeitherneartheendof
JuneorfirstpartofAugusttoconfirmtheirchoiceand
welcomeournextRegionalMinister.Weareblessed
withtheoutstandingleadershipofBillAllen.Billhas
servedwellpastwhatwethoughthewouldhavetodo
asour“Interim”RegionalMinister,anditisourgoalto
sendhimbackintoarelaxingretirementsoverysoon.
Weknowhowmuchhewishestoreturntohiswifeand
familyinWestVirginia,eventhoughhewillbesorely
missedwhenhedepartsourregion.Ofcourse,hewillalwayshaveaspecialplaceinourPennsylvaniahearts.
TheCabinetforCommunityLifeunderJanetHellner-
Burris’leadershipisgearingupforanexcitingSchool
forCongregationalLeadersonNovember5,2011at
ToftreesResortnearStateCollege.Thisisaneventfor
theentireregion,everychurch,andeverychurchmem-
ber.Significantandmeaningfulworkshopswilladdress
theneedsofeveryoneofourPAchurches,withexciting
keynoteaddressesplanned,aswellasworship,andof
course,fellowship.FromtheListeningConferencesof
twoyearsago,manyDisciplefolkacrosstheregionindi-
catedadesireforsuchawide-reachingandcomprehen-siveleadershipdevelopmentprogramtobeheld.Planned
forthemiddleofthestate,andnomorethan3hours
fromeveryregionalchurch,itishopedthatwewillmax
outtheirfacilitywithDisciplesfromeverycornerofourre-
gion.Markyourcalendarnowandplantobeapartofthis
importantevent.Watchfordetailsastheyareavailable.
Ofcourse,weareexcitedabouttheupcomingcamp
andconferenceseasonatLaurelview.Campdatesare
availableforeveryagegroup,scholarshipsareavailable
toattend,andmoniesavailablethroughReconciliationto
insurethateverychildwhowishestogotocamp–willbe
abletogo.ManythankstoourRegionalYouthCoordina-torJohnOwenandhiscrewforchoosingdirectorsand

youthtocampthisyear.Materials,registrationformsare

andsharethemessageofhowimportantsummerchurch
campis.Somanyofourclergyreceivedtheircalltomin-
istryatchurchcamp–thatisapowerfulreasontosend
youryouth.
IamindebtedtoanExecutiveCommitteethatrepre-
sentsourregionsowell,whoconvenewithmeinconfer-
encecallsbetweenRegionalBoardmeetingstotackle
importantissues.Eachonebringsspecialstrengthsand
talentswhichinaunitedwaymakesourconversations
deliberate,intentionalandfaith-filled.
Inclosing,letmethankeachofyouacrossthiswidere-
gionforyourcontinuedprayersandloveintheaftermath
ofahorrificcaraccidentinwhichmywifeNaomiandI
wereinvolvedonSunday,March27th.Naomihashealed
fromherinjuriesandIcontinuetohealfromafractured
patella.AftersurgeryonMarch28thIamnowintomy
secondofeightweeksofphysicaltherapy.Wehavebeensustainedbyyoursupportandprayer,andattherecent
BoardMeetingwereprayedoverandtouchedbythelove
ofthosegathered.WehavefelttheSpiritinsomanyways
touchourlivesandwhatishappeninginthisregionwe
