So much to enjoy in this newsletter again. There are stories of individual achievement and excellence, stories of collaborative work in a range of different contexts and the CIS/WASC conclusions which give an external perspective on the contribution we all make to KGV. Once again the stories are illuminated by outstanding photographs and images which bring the text alive. Many of these were taken by Alex Carlile whose talent in this area is very well known, and increasingly we have students contributing their photographs to the newsletter. My congratulations to everyone who has helped and particularly to Alex Ng for producing such an excellent outcome.

I wonder whether we will look back at this newsletter in years to come and say “that was the year KGV TV started !” I suspect this initiative will grow and develop as more and more students engage with the Media Studio and learn how to use it confidently.

The CIS/WASC report is also a benchmark for the school that validates our work over the last five years. For me, the closure of that chapter simply means we open a new one and I am excited to begin to develop a new agenda for the school that will keep us at the cutting edge of international education in Hong Kong whilst nurturing KGV’s extraordinary heritage.

“Top in the World” award from Cambridge International ExamsThe English Schools Foundation (ESF) is proud to announce the exceptional achievements of students across five ESF secondary schools who were awarded “Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards” by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) for their fabulous performances during the June 2014 examinations of International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE).

Sampson Kwan, Julian Chow and Sharmane Tsui from King George V School (KGV) gained the “Top in the World” award for Additional Mathematics,

World Literature and Chinese as a Second Language respectively.

We are very proud of our students, Sampson Kwan (Additional Mathematics), Sharmane Tsui (Chinese as Second Language) and Julian Chow (World Literature) who received “Top in the World” award from Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) for their excellent results during the IGCSE exams in June 2014.

On Thursday 26th March, The year 12 CAS students led by Gloria Jung provided a fabulous Easter party for the students of the LSC and JCSR. All kinds of activities, music from the DJing team, arts and crafts, games, competitions and dancing were on the menu. There was singing and guitar playing, a very ‘eggciting’ egg and spoon race, an egg painting competition and an Eater egg hunt also took place, with lots of chocolate for the winners.

It was a very successful occasion and the CAS students surpassed themselves with the logistical side of things and all the arrangements.

Three Year 10 students – Aashana Shah, Khushi Patel and Simran Kalathiya – have participated in the Chinese Speech Competition for Non-Native Speakers organised by University of Hong Kong in April 2015. They read out the poem “Ditu”(地图) by Xiangyang (向阳). Their outstanding performance has impressed the judges and they have been awarded “Creative Performance Award”. Congratulations and well done!

Kepow Theatre VisitKevin Tomlinson is a professional actor who tours the world with his ‘Kepow Theatre’ Company. He specialises in Improvisation and has worked with some of the world’s most influential practitioners. He now trains actors, offers workshops to schools and performs.

A group of Year 9 students who have opted to take Drama iGCSE next year and our BTEC Performing Arts students worked with Kevin for an entire day to develop their Improvisation skills. Between them they created a number of hilarious and powerful pieces of spontaneous performance whilst being coached by Kevin on the sidelines.

It was a hugely successful day enjoyed by all involved. Our students will most definitely be going on to use the techniques they have been taught!

ESF Philosophy Festival 2014-2015

Year 6 students visited KGV on 13th January for a Taster Day. They enjoyed a tour of the school, visited the new LRC, experienced a tutor time activity, learnt about the Geography and History curriculums and had the opportunity to sample lessons in Science, Drama and Languages. The Year 10 Prefects who were leading the groups of visiting students were exemplary in every way.

Students from SIS, KGV and Sha Tin College went to ESF centre to show off their work in response to the question “Why is Philosophy Important?”

The students produced some excellent art work and the collaborated on philosophical ideas with students from the other schools. This was the 2nd ESF Philosophy festival KGV has joined and it was a wonderful experience for all the students involved.

KGV has participated in the DragonMaths competition for many years. In it, a selected team of students face a series of challenging questions. This year, the competition was hosted by Kellett School, and was joined by a large amount of schools within Hong Kong, with 72 teams from 19 schools participating.

Our school put up a spectacular performance. Our Year 8 teams both scored highly, with the second team scoring just short of a prize. It was an amazing effort from them, as it was their first year participating.

It has a faculty and staff dedicated to the well-being and learning of their students, and students who are proud of their school and eager to attend it. A warm, welcoming, purposeful and enjoyable atmosphere greets visitors to the school. The spirit of innovation and futures thinking is geared towards preparing young people for an ever-changing world. A sense of partnership between and across all constituencies is both strong and visible. Important to note also is the fact that despite it being a school of 1700 students in Middle and Senior School, KGV clearly operates as a

unified entity providing clearly identified pathways for learning from Year 7 to Year 13 within a caring and supportive environment where each student is known as an individual; a fact that should not be lost by the exciting prospect of being part of the Kowloon Learning Campus.

In the period since the Team Visit, KGV has embarked upon an intensive review of the principles of teaching and learning, with the end result being the design and implementation, over a three-year period, of the skills-based Middle Years Curriculum and the development and application of a ground-breaking learning management system. It is appropriate to recognise and acknowledge the dedicated and visionary leadership of the Principal, the management skills of the Curriculum Leadership Team and the enthusiastic and highly professional work of the faculty in developing the Middle Years Curriculum and having the drive and vision to see such a significant undertaking through from

conception to implementation. The school is truly forward-looking building upon the traditions of its heritage.Through discussions with a wide range of school constituents, the Visitors had no difficulty in identifying KGVs strengths which include the exceptionally positive school culture and climate, the individual attention and support that students receive from their teachers, the demonstrated willingness to embrace change and innovation and the strong focus on students’ learning outcomes. There is a very strong commitment to student voice and student participation in improving the overall learning environment of the school. All of this makes for a very healthy learning culture and bodes well for the further development and implementation of the initiatives underway.

The Visitors wish to thank the school for the welcome and generosity they were extended and for the expert manner in which the Visit was organised. The

Visitors also much appreciated the thoughtfulness, openness and candour they experienced in their meetings with faculty and staff members, learning leaders, the Leadership Team, students, School Council members and parents.

Noting the above, the Visitors have no hesitation in recommending to the Council of International Schools that KGV be granted continued Accreditation, subject to routine follow-up.

Teams of students in ESF Year 12 studying Business and Economics competed against each other – 84 competitors altogether. The teams were challenged by the TIME global news brand to plan and execute a campaign to raise young readership of the multi-media platform across Hong Kong.

The KGV team 2 was the winners of the challenges set on the day with KGV Team 1 taking the second place.

The three challenges covered a role play presenting a TV or radio advertisement (2 minutes maximum), a visual to support the role lay and finally a PechaKucha presentation showcasing the teams choice of top 6 covers from TIME 2014 / 15 with a justification for each. Again this presentation was given a 2 minute time cap and each team member had to be a part of the presentation. The winners demonstrated the highest levels of creativity, initiative, communication and insight with an increasing use of social media being used as their vehicle to raise awareness of TIME across Hong Kong’s youth.

As part of the sponsorship arrangement, TIME has also offered ESF readers a generous discount to TIME subscription which can be accessed at www.TimeAsiaSubs.com/ESF2015. The special offer will run until end of April. The event was sponsored by TIME who we cannot thank enough for their generosity in the execution of the competition and the prizes for the winning team, thank you to Liam Fitzpatrick (Senior Editor and KGV alumnus), Florence Thote - Sales Development Manager, Asia Pacific (Ad Sales) and Annie Ng (Marketing / Sales Manager, Asia Pacific (Consumer Marketing). In addition, we thank Edson Ko and Justin Lee for their support on the photography for this event.

The first KGV Literature Festival, held from 9th to 13th March, aimed to draw students and teachers’ attention to reading for pleasure. To promote the importance and joy of the written word, the festival featured a variety of literary activities including: visiting authors, a literary debate and even a book launch. Bei Dao

The Literature Festival was kick started by the renowned award-winning Chinese poet, Bei Dao. Students and teachers were thrilled to meet the poet, hear the work recited and explained by the author himself. Marcus Alexander

Author of the ‘Charlie Keeper’ series of books, Marcus Alexander brought a level of charisma and energy to the festival that nobody expected. He shared with our students how he has been inspired by travelling the world and his love of reading. The students left with a very different perspective on what it means to be an author.

Literary Recordings

Staff and students were invited to record an excerpt from their favourite literary texts which were then professionally mixed by BTEC students and published on the internet. These wonderful performances were used throughout the week and are still available on the Literature Festival website for you to listen to. Bookmark Competition

Northern Uganda that are in dire need of reading material for their children. Paul Letter ‘A Chance Kill’ Book Launch

Our very own history teacher Paul Letters spoke about the experience of researching, writing and publishing his first book ‘A Chance Kill’. The World War Two romantic thriller is inspired by his Grandmother and students were fascinated to hear about the writing process and to see a different side of one of their teachers.

Matthew Cooper

Author of children’s book Lost in Hong Kong, Matthew Cooper, spent a wonderful morning with 22 LSC students. There was a heated discussion on what made a good picture book. Matthew shared his writing experience with the students and he even read his latest work which is not yet printed to the students.

Battle of the Books Quiz

The Literature Festival was closed by the ‘Battle of the Books (BoB)’ quiz. Members of the school’s BoB team were joined by teachers and other well-read students to see who knew the most about literature. The winning team ‘Ottoman Revival’ demonstrated knowledge of various topics from Charles Dickens to Stephen King. This proved to be a lively and fun end to an enjoyable week.

Lion Fund Book Donations

Thanks to donations made to the 2014-15 Lion Fund, we were able to add substantially to LRC book collection. We would like to once again thank all those who donated and have helped us to build a collection which will be valuable to all our students.

KGV won the Bronze Final at the 10th senior tournament of the Hong Kong Schools Debating and Public Speaking Council. The team of Edward Mak, Katrina Chu and Lawrence Zheng proposed the motion: ‘This house would positively discriminate in favour of women in the armed forces’.

Edward Mak who led the team also won the Standard Chartered English Public Speaking contest organized by the HKFYG. He will now go on to represent Hong Kong in the International final in London in May. Closer to home, Edward will also be part of the Hong Kong team taking part in the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking championships which will be hosted by Hong Kong for the first time between April 6th and 11th. We wish him the best of luck in both these events.

The 2015 Lion Yearbook team are in the final stages of production with what looks set to be another stellar publication, celebrating the events and achievements of the KGV community.

Heading our team this year is our senior Editor-in-Chief, Yoyo Wong. This is Yoyo’s second year as Editor-in-Chief and she is joined by Lawrence Zheng, who begins his two-year term as joint EIC. Their commitment to the process is outstanding and promises, yet again, to deliver superlative publication.

Heading our design team is Emily Wang (not pictured here) and Evan Wen. It falls to these two talented and dedicated designers to piece together the content from all corners of KGV into a form that is highly original, super stylish but ultimately balanced for ease of reading.

year term as joint head of team. The skill it takes in coordinating the photographic record-keeping of a year of KGV’s many creative, community, sporting and academic events is mind-bogglingly complex. Our editing team is entrusted with the task of writing or sourcing and proofing the three hundred and forty eight pages of content that this year’s edition will hold. This phenomenal task is spearheaded by our two-year team leader, Grace Chen, who this year is joined by YouYee Chen in the first of her two-year tenure. Taking care of the business side of publication and currently in the process of seeking corporate sponsors for the yearbook is Rubaiyat Quader.

As another academic year of spectacular achievements comes to a close, we look forward to presenting to students, parents, staff and alumni, another proud record of all that makes KGV the great place it is.

At the end of January, KGV was delighted to host the International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) Middle School Festival. 140 Middle School students from King George V School, Hong Kong International School, Canadian International School - Hong Kong, Discovery College – Hong Kong, United World College South East Campus -Singapore, Australian International School - Singapore, American School of Taipei, Dulwich College -Shanghai, with a love for Drama from all over the Asia Pacific region came together to work with professional directors and practitioners to devise a completely original piece of theatre.

Working on the stimulus of “Lost Voices”, the students visited an abandoned village and looked for traditional ways of life in Old Sai Kung. They then worked with seven directors in ensembles over the course of the weekend to devise a piece of theatre that reflected both these experiences as well as research into the lost voices of Hong Kong.

As part of the experience, most of the KGV students were able to host a student visiting from overseas

which always adds a unique element to the festival. Francesco Brassesco hosted a student from Dulwich College and says “It was really interesting having someone staying with us. The student we hosted was a magician so I learned quite a few tricks from him and he was a really relaxed person.”

The students also had the opportunity to work with local practitioners Nick Atkinson, Matthew Coombes and Candice Moore as well as the visiting directors in skills workshops that proved very popular. From shadow puppetry to stage fighting, script work to music making, the students were able to pick up a range of additional skills to feed into their devising. Says Alexandre Jaouen, “The workshops were really cool as they offered a lot of variety and really useful skills that you could take into consideration when in the ensembles but also when acting as a whole.”

It was an amazing weekend to witness; to see 140 strangers meet on the Friday and by the Sunday evening rejoice together at the success of the performance with a genuine sadness that they were to go separate ways was quite extraordinary.

We will be attending an ISTA festival in the Asia Pacific Region next year. If you are interested in participating, Katie White advises, “Do it! It’s a fantastic way to develop your Drama skills as well as make new friends that you wouldn’t necessarily meet otherwise.”

A huge thank you must go the parents of the KGV students who so kindly opened their homes and hearts to the visiting overseas students by hosting. Without you, the event would not have been possible and the experience of the students was so enriched as a result of your generosity.

The annual KGV charity fashion show, Panache, came back with on it’s fifth year and was bigger than ever. March 7th 2015 was the result of dedication and teamwork - whether you were part of it as a team, model, designer, backstage helper or the audience, we would to show our deepest gratitude for making it one of the best Panache shows ever.

Just as the previous years, Panache aimed to fuse the creativity and initiative of students for the purpose of raising donations for charity. The benefactor of this years show was World Vision, a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the root causes of poverty and injustice. In order for the foundation to achieve their goal, they required a certain amount of finance and with months of hard work and our generous sponsors, we managed to raise a large sum of money for their cause.

Panache gave students the opportunity to benefit from real world experience through contacting sponsors and expanding their knowledge beyond textbooks. It was also an opportunity for student designers to flourish their creativity and talent with their unique designs, as well as for graphic designers, photographers and media team individuals to develop their skills for portfolios that could be used for university applications. The list can go on and on!

Being an entirely student-led event, Panache is truly one of the most spectacular experience that we will learn and grow from. We hope that Panache will continue to grow in the upcoming years and bring more spectacular nights to our audiences.

The dancers have done it again! This time, they translated our favourite bedtime stores into dazzling performances! It was evident that the efforts of the dance captains did not go to waste. Two months of hard work finally paid off! The evening saw many “firsts” for KGV - a guest ballroom dance featuring our own Ms Anna Fok and an inaugural staff dance (where 2 staff members from each house had to learn a routine over the course of 4 weeks and compete with each other) and a “Behind The Scenes Film Clip” which gave us a whirlwind tour of the preparation of the dancers during rehearsals.

The online stream of EOMD proved to be a great success setting a new record at KGV, attracting over 8000 views on the internet on the evening and in the weekend that followed. The evening also featured invitational dances from our senior school dancers ranging from urban dance to contemporary ballet, musical items, with one being an original

composition by Araanya Darynani, as well as the Year 13 Captain’s Dance as they took the stage at KGV for the last time. Let’s not forget our superb hosts Komal and Divij who first greeted us in their pyjamas (Divij was very relieved when he was back in his suit!)

The night ended with plenty of joy and tears when Upsdell were crowned champions once again after winning both the Junior and Senior Dance Competitions. Congratulations also to Aldrin Kam and Christy Yip for being joint winners of the Sam Rodda Cup Prize. A pat on the back also to Mr Armstrong and Ms Grantham who were crowned winners of the staff dance.

Once again, thank you to all dance captains, dancers, staff, and student helpers for making this event possible. See you all next year!

King George V’s annual Inter House Music competition is one of the most creative and suspenseful events of the year. Some 350 of the school’s most talented musicians from all four houses have spent over two months preparing a collaborative performance for the entire school around the central theme: ‘Peace, Protest, Politics and Revolution’.

The quality of this year’s competition was “absolutely outstanding, professional and superb”, in the words of ex KGV teacher and judge, Mr Malcolm Godsman. Whether they were the accomplished soloists who performed admirably, provocatively and robustly, or the well-rehearsed, complex and brilliant ensemble musicians, all of this year’s participants have represented their house deservedly.

Both Middle and Senior School Ensembles went to Crozier who performed ‘Viva La Vida’ by Coldplay and ‘They Don’t Care About Us’ by Michael Jackson.

Despite Crozier topping both ensembles, and convincing performances from Nightingale and Rowell, a very strong Upsdell won the shield of 2015.Competition aside, it is hoped that everyone, performer, contributor, Music Captain, or the audience, enjoyed the show.

The B-Grade boys basketball team has encountered a massive amount of success this season. Placing second in the ESF league but, more importantly and more impressively, winning the division 3 HKSSF league with an overall record of 14 wins and 3 losses. Passion, dedication and hard work were key factors contributing to our success, as well as individual highlights including Alan Au and Owen Poon’s “beastmode” and tenacious rebounding, followed by Ricky Yu’s fearless drives in the paint.

We were led by our unstoppable floor general Nick Yuen backed up by Ryan Chan’s sweet 3 pointers on the kick out. Dominic Sun and Daniel Borbolla acted as the “twin towers” being monstrous on the rebounds while rookies Ryan Kwok and Joshua Lai

contributed with some silky smooth ball movement on the floor.Wing-Hang Siu and Albert Bucks were forces to be reckoned with on the defensive end providing strength and security as well.

Our commitment and determination stayed strong throughout the season and we are truly blessed to have Mr Warriner’s amazing coaching abilities guiding us along the way to victory. I’d like to thank the team for being the best teammates ever and I could not have asked for a better group of players to share a victory with also for such an unforgettable season. On the 19th April 2015, the KGV gymnastics team competed in the 2014-15 HKSSF Gymnastics Competition. The team consisted of Kessandra Ng (R09S) and Kiki Wong (N02S) from Year 11, and Janice Wong (N07M) from Year 9. This year, the team competed in the Senior Level, equivalent to Division 1 for other sports, to challenge nearly 50 stronger and more experienced competitors including the HK Team.

We competed in 4 events: Balance Beam, Vaulting, Floor Exercise and Uneven Bars, all of which required vigorous hours of training and preparation. All of this paid off, and the KGV team was named 1st runner-up in the team competition, with a large 5 point difference between us and third place.

The KGV gymnastics team had a great deal of fun and gained a lot of experience along the way, thus allowing them to achieve the magnificent results which are shared below. We are all looking forward to next year’s competition, and hope to perform as well as we did this year.

TennisI started playing tennis when I was just six. It has since been a daily part of my life that I enjoy through the thrill of its competitiveness, as well as the experiences when travelling overseas. Playing tennis isn’t simply a sport for me, as it enabled me to form good relationships with players of different nationalities and ages, in particular it provides me plenty of opportunities to visit many interesting cities and learn about their cultural differences by participating international tournaments. Last year, my major achievement in tennis was being able to represent Hong Kong in participating three major junior events including the Asian Junior Championship in the Philippines, World Junior Championship in Malaysia and Junior Davis Cup in Korea where HK was placed 6th position in Asia. In addition, being the winner of the School Boys Title of

CRC 2013 and receiving No. 1 year-ended ranking awards for both U14 and U18 age groups in Hong Kong’s own local tournaments. This year, I have recently won the 16 and 18 & under HK National Junior Tennis Championships which has qualified me to be representing Hong Kong once again for the Junior Davis Cup in Melbourne during the Easter holidays which will hopefully prove to be another worthwhile experience. I am very happy that all my hard work in tennis training has paid off. I would like to thank my fellow classmates and teachers who have supported me with my academics during my absence at school and in fact without them I won’t have achieved that far. The interschool sailing festival took place on the 14th and 15th of March where KGV entered two teams ;both sailing different classes of boats one being an RS Feva and the other a Laser Pico.

The students who raced in the Feva tema in the event were Antonio Franco, Riley Cameron, Calum Gregor, Duncan Gregor, Emily Keg and Christopher Bezy. The racers in the Pico team was: Ian Duncan, Hannah Jepson, Telitha, Stead, Kiera Ewart, Kyla Ewart, Jocelyn Cheng and Rachel Mason.

Both teams sailed very well in the regatta with KGV coming out with a win overall in the Feva Team as an undefeated streak throughout the entire event putting them as the leading school for sailing in Hong Kong. The team had only sailed together that weekend with no prior training whereas others schools had been training together months in advance. All the sailors in the team sail for different clubs and teams around Hong Kong brining in a mix of talent and skill. With this win KGV should have the motivation to aspire and win this competition in future years.

WushuFor the third year in a row Jessica has won another well deserve World Class Award for her performances on the world stage in her discipline of Wushu.

Jessica’s commitment and dedication of six days a week training has been rewarded with the opportunity of representing Hong Kong at the World and Asian Junior Wushu Championships several times over. In 2014 she won a silver medal for Group Taiji and a bronze medal for Women’s 36 Forms Taiji at the World Taijiquan Championships open age category where she competed with the elite from all over the world.

Most recently, Jessica was promoted by the Hong Kong Sports Institute to the Elite A Category, making her title ’Queen of Taiji’ as aptly name by Sing Tao Daily all the more worthy. We wish her every success in her future as she brings her positivity and motivation to work hard and live a balanced life to all those she encounters.

Vanessa is a member of the Hong Kong junior Triathlon team and regular competes in International competitions for Hong Kong. Her dedication to Triathlon and the training required in this Sport has been extraordinary and seen her reach the podiums in two Asian Cup races. Vanessa’s achievements doesn’t stop there, she was also selected to compete in the Junior World Triathlon Championships this year, competing in both the junior women’s race, and the U23/Junior Mixed Team relay events.

CricketAnsh has trained with the Hong Kong cricket team for a number of years. In October 2014, he was selected to represent the Hong Kong at under 16 level, in a major tournament in Qatar. Hong Kong had games against Iran, Kuwait, Afghanistan and Qatar, to decide which countries would get promoted to Division 1 of the non-test playing nations. Ansh was selected for all four games and played a major role as a leg spin bowler, with his best performance coming against Afghanistan, coming on to bowl at a period in the game when the opposition were scoring freely at around 10 runs an over. Ansh slowed down

the scoring and took a key wicket, finishing with figures of 1 for 29 from his allotted 8 overs. Hong Kong finished the tournament strongly and were successful in their bid for promotion. Ansh is now training with the Hong Kong under 19 squad, in preparation for a tournament later this year.

Amy has excelled at her athletics abilities to the degree in which she is deserving of the World Class Award.Her enthusiasm, dedication and discipline in training has brought tremendous results such as competing in England for Tonbridge Athletics Club where she placed 3rd in the 400m, 4th for the 200m and 1st for high jump. She also placed 1st in the 400m and 400m Hurdles at the Sweatshop Southern Athletics League. At the Hong Kong Athletics Series 3, Amy placed 5th in the 200m, 2nd in 400m hurdles and 8th in high jump. Kong Amateur Athletic Association Athletics Series 1 by placing 1st in 400m hurdles and 3rd in the 200m while in Series 2 placing 1st in the 400m hurdles. More recently, Amy was selected and represented the Hong Kong Team at the All China Youth Championship in Chongqing, China. She placed 13th out of 44 for the 400m, helped the 4x100m team qualify 7th and came 7th in the 400m, which is the new HK junior record.

Swimming

Boris is a swimmer for the Hong Kong National Team and competes Internationally in Hong Kong and overseas. He has been granted a sports scholarship by the Hong Kong Sports Federation which requires excellent performance throughout the year as well as a consistent attendance record in training. This means he practices up to 9 times a week and some days he is in the pool before and after school. This dedication is on top of maintaining his academic standard. His most recent gold medal win was for the 200m at the Thailand Age Group Swimming Championships

and a bronze medal win at the 58th Festival of Sport Long Course Swimming Time Trial for the 200m breaststroke. Boris discipline and dedication to the sport has shown that he is fully deserving of being awarded the KGV World Class Award for 2015.

Joshua Edwards (13C03S), Athletics, Football, Rugby

Josh has excelled in sports throughout his 7 years at KGV, representing the Rugby, Football and Athletics teams. Josh’s love of Rugby has allowed him to thrive as a player and led him to become the school captain this year. He has represented the Football team, being an influential player in the year they won the HKSSF B Grade Football Championship. Josh is also a key member of the Athletics team and represented KGV in the HKSSF Athletics Division 1 Finals where he finished a very respectable 5th in the 400m and 4x400m against some of the top athletes in Hong Kong.

Josh has proved to be the best KGV Sportsman this year and devoted himself to KGV Sport and Crozier House. His dedication to the role of House Captain has been very impressive and the dynamic duo of Josh and Judith paid off when they captained Crozier to victory last year, where their leadership was an inspiration to others.

Vanessa’s commitment to KGV Sport over the past 7 years has been outstanding. She has demonstrated dedication and commitment and is a role model to all young inspiring athletes. She has represented KGV in Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country and this year added Basketball to her impressive Sporting CV. Her ability in Swimming was demonstrated when she won in the HKSSF Division 2, 50m Freestyle and came 2nd in the 100m Freestyle. She came a respectable 9th in the HKSSF Division 1 Cross Country against the best runners in her age group in HK. Vanessa was a key member of the KGV Athletics team in the HKSSF Division 1 Athletics, coming 3rd in the 800m, 4th in the 1500m, and 4th in

the 4x400m Relay. She also broke the Year 13 Girls 1500m record in Sports Day this year, bringing her Sports Day Records to 8. She has also demonstrated her ability to lead and inspire others when supporting KGV students in an upcoming duathlon race.

On top of this, she was awarded the 2014 Bauhinia Bowl Sports Girl of the Year Award at the beginning of this academic year.

Rhian Anderson (13C07S), Drama - Wizard of Oz

Rhian has always been a performer and has played a full and active role in this side of school life. She clearly has a passion for performance, but with a particular slant towards using her wonderful singing voice. In the last two school musicals Rhian has been on or centre stage for much of the show.

Two years ago she played one of the three Ronettes, the chorus of the show, and did this with skill, passion and gusto.

This year, quite rightly, she was cast as Dorothy, the lead in The Wizard of Oz which is a very demanding role that requires an experienced and skilled performer. Rhian took this role and made it her own, carrying the show and inspiring the younger students with her professionalism and work ethic.

Rock Lee has been a ‘tour de force’ within the music department over the past seven years. He is completely dedicated to his role as Leader of the Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra which he has held for the past 2 years. He is an incredibly versatile performer; a superb Violinist, a sonorous Bass and can also make an unforgettable ‘Tin Man’!Rock has been a fantastic Music Captain for Upsdell house and led them to victory this year in the Inter-House Music competition as well as taking home

On Friday 27th March we held our annual KGV London Alumni Reunion at the Iron Duke in Mayfair.

As always the event was a great success with more than 50 alumni, who graduated from the 1960s until recently, gathered together with Dr. Ed Wickins for a fun evening with food and drinks!
