Metals Studio | Ages 9 - 12

Woodworking Studio | Ages 12 - 17

Learn the fundamentals of green woodworking and windsor chair construction while building a stool. Beginning with a log students will learn the basics of splitting and shaving wood to maximize its strength and flexibility. We

will cover basic spindle turning, and students will shape stool legs and stretchers either on the lathe or with a drawknife and shaving horse. Seats will be carved using traditional chairmaker's tools such as the adze, inshave and travisher. Additional demonstrations include drill compound angle joinery by hand, and applying a traditional two tone finish using milk paint. Students will be free to customize their stools as they see fit! Introduction to Pottery - Kyle and Becky Shelton

Clay Pottery Studio | Ages 8 - 17

In this class, students will learn to create thrown forms and vessels on a potter’s wheel. Cups, bowls, and more will be demonstrated, and students will have the chance to decorate their work with slips and glazes before they are fired in a kiln. T-Shirts Galore - Skye Livingston

Textiles Studio | Ages 11 - 17

Design and make your own t-shirts! Over the course of five weeks, you will learn dyeing, stitching and printing, and make a different t-shirt emphasizing each one of those techniques. For the last two classes, students will design and create their very own t-shirts using a combination of the techniques they learn. Exploring Acrylic and Oil Painting - Ed Lockett

Painting Studio | Ages 11 - 17

This creative class will use both acrylic and oil paint media on canvas panels. Each student will be able to focus on his/her individual area of interest - landscape, portrait, nature or fantasy. In acrylics, we will explore different patterns and textures of paint. In oils we will learn to layer and blend the paint on the canvas. An open, creative attitude is the greatest asset for this class. Ghosts of Appalachia - John Allen

Drawing Studio | Ages 9 - 14

This class will focus on mythology and folklore specific to the region of the Southern Appalachians and the Smoky Mountains. Discussions will include “monsters” from several Cherokee stories and traditions including Judacullah, Spearfinger, and the Boogerman. Also discussed will be reportedly haunted locations in the Smokies and Gatlinburg. For this class students will make their own “boogerman mask,” make drawings inspired by the petroglyphs, and use trick photography to depict their own “ghosts.”

Puppet Power! - Julia Gartrell

Fibers Studio | Ages 5 - 7

Explore your creative side in a hands-on puppet making workshop! Using recycled materials, yarn, paper, and your imagination, we will craft puppets that tell your story. Students will brainstorm as a group and create fun characeters, alter-egos, and aspirational figures. If there's time, we'll put on a short play!

Glass Studio | Ages 8 - 13

Spider-Man,Wolverine, and Dr. Who -- How would you illustrate them if given the chance? This mixed media class will be an exploration of ideas from comic books, graphic novels, and your own fan fiction. We will create characters and design their costumes using current illustration skills, fashion research, and different textiles to make the other designs like a DALIK (Dr. Who reference) made from stuffed animals. It’s adventure time… come on and grab your pens! Beginning Turning - Heather Ashworth

Wood Turning Studio | Ages 11-18

Learn to turn wood in this fun 5 week class! Students will start small with some fun quick projects and work our way up to a final art piece you can use at home. Clay Handbuilding Studio | Ages 5 - 7

Oh my, the things we will master with plaster! We’ll use plaster cloth to design a world of wonderful creatures, then paint and embellish to create the ultimate mixed media kid masterpieces. Ability to use scissors is helpful. Get ready for a wild ride through a world of imagination and fun!

Clay Pottery Studio | Ages 11 - 17

Students can build on basic throwing skills- cylinder shapes, bowl shape and plate forms. One on one instruction and demonstrations. Students will leave with cup, bowl and plate and confidence in moving forward in perfecting their skills. Kyle will also explain the differences between clays, glazes and firing temperatures. (Students must have had previous Arrowmont pottery class) Slab, Slump and Stamp: Hand-Building with Clay - Becky Shelton

Clay Handbuilding Studio | Ages 11 - 17

In this class students will learn basic slab skills and exploring many texture techniques. We use items found in nature, household and different textiles. Also will demonstrate how to use studio texture tools. We will instruct on forming cylinders and slump molding. Students will leave with functional and fun pieces they have made.

Bags: Dye/Print/Sew - Skye Livingston

Textiles Studio | Ages 13 - 17

Design and make your own bag! This class covers basic dyeing and printing techniques, as well as machine sewing. Students will focus on designing and creating their own fabric to turn into a tote bag or basic backpack. Adventures in Watercolor Painting - Ed Lockett

Painting Studio | Ages 11 - 17

An exciting class learning the many techniques used in watercolor. We will explore English tube watercolors, American cake watercolors and acrylic paint used as watercolor. We will experiment with both direct and wash techniques of applying pigment to various types of watercolor paper. Also, we will combine various drawing media with watercolors for exciting results! This will include using English watercolor pencils to create outstanding detail. Grades 5-12 recommended. Happy Accidents - John Hendricks

Drawing Studio | Ages 14 - 17

Oops! This class will explore purposeful mistakes in art making, and students will learn how to make those mistakes into a great works of art. This Japanese concept is called “wabi sabi” which means the beauty of things that are imperfect. No longer fear slipping up or the mis-drawn line in your art. Get ready to take the fear out of making art, create wonderful mistakes using mixed media materials (i.e. graphite, encaustics, and paints), and transcend them into beautiful art! Sculptural Stories: Puppets with Personality - Julia Gartrell

Fibers Studio | Ages 13 - 17

glgUsing papier mache, fabric, wood, and found objects, this class will build, write, and perform a short puppet show! The class will focus on sculptural techniques, storytelling, and performance. Students will collaborate on all aspects of production, and each student will invent and create their own personalized puppet. As a group, we’ll write an imaginative story and build a fantastical set out of recycled materials. For the grand finale, we will design and screen print a poster advertising the show, and have an awesome performance of the show for friends, family, and the community. All ages, no experience in sculpture or theater required! Space Craft - Bob Biddlestone

Glass Studio / Mixed Media | Ages 8 - 11

Drawing from our imaginations this class will explore outer space, our knowledge of our solar system, and discover extraterrestrial life! Using picture books, film clips, a variety of found objects, and craft materials we'll create our ideal space ships, planetary systems, and most importantly our space suit. Our five-day mission; to explore and create strange new worlds!

Making dinner has never been more fun! In this 3 night class you will learn basic food prep such as responsibility with cutlery, food science, and reading recipes all while learning the art of Dutch Oven cooking. Each night will have a new and unique meal plan that will incorporate a bread recipe, something savory and something sweet. So come prepared and bring your appetite!
