How is it that 1/2 is bigger than 1/4 when a 4 is bigger than a 2? Once you understand fractions, it makes sense. Until then? It is a big mystery. Work up an appetite with paper plate pizza fractions to learn in a fun, visual and hands-on way that kids can really understand! Then make it a reality by baking your own pizza together! Draw lines on the paper plate to make 8 even triangle pizza slices. Have student draw or place cutouts of the toppings on the plate as instructed (see green box on right). Once your pizza is created, review fractions using discussion guide on the next page. To make this activity more difficult, make a 12 -16 even triangle sliced pizza instead of 8 slices. Pizza in a Pinch!Make your own individual pizza

INGREDIENTS

1 Whole wheat tortilla (6 inches round)3 Tablespoons Pasta sauce1/4 Cup Part-skim mozzarella cheese1/4 Cup Favorite vegetables for topping

(onion, bell pepper, broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms etc.)

Preheat oven to 350º Fahrenheit. Place tortilla on baking sheet.Add pasta sauce on top of tortilla and spread around evenlywith a spoon.Sprinkle cheese on top of sauce.Add your favorite vegetables over the cheese.Place baking sheet into the oven and cook for 5-7 minutesuntil cheese is melted. Cut into fourths and enjoy!
