Kindergarten Pretend and Learn Lesson
Unit: Family Pretend and Learn Theme: Fire Safety
Whole Group Introduction to Center
Center Introduction 1. Inform students that the center has been turned into a “Fire Safety” space (a home and a fire station).
2. Brainstorm: Who works at the fire station? When do you need to call 9-1-1?
3. Call on a variety of students to tell you what they know about fire safety.
4. Have the whole class practice “stop, drop, and roll.”
5. Teacher models a “9-1-1” phone call. Choose students to act out the roles of the homeowner in trouble,
the operator, and the firefighters.
6. Discuss safety in using the materials in the center.
