On a day, sometime in the 1890s, alocal photographer must have climbed tothe roof of the oldat King St. W. and St. Paul St. to capturethis image. The town hall, some of youknow, is the present
. I wish we could find some earlyphotographs of it. It was a tall squarebuilding with a foursided sloping roof,topped by a cupola.
Looking easterly from the cupoladown the main street like this picture, wecan see a lot of old buildings. Many ofthem are still in place.
On the left, the first one is at the nec ofPerth St., where the
(#232) is located. Thebuilding housing(#226) had not been built.
The next block stone building doesstill exists. It is the former
building, now. It was built
about 1870.Next are the two hotels, the
and the theway they used to look. Many otherbuildings have not changed much.
