Management Report

Kingsgrove Cricket Club Yearbook 2018/2019 Page 3

2018/2019 was a successful and milestone year for Kingsgrove Cricket Club where the Club introduced new changes without losing out on old traditions. The milestone was that the Club completed 40 years of Senior Cricket & 25 years of Junior Cricket. There were major changes in the KCC Committee this year – Andrew Starks as Vice President, Manisha Shirodkar as Club Secretary, Sean Myers as a Treasurer, Craig Bashall as Assistant Secretary (for Seniors), Mahidi Mardini as Member Protection Officer & Denis King as Registrar. Michael Venn, KCC’s erstwhile Secretary stepped down from cricket administration at both Club & Association level. The KCC Committee thanks him for his contribution to KCC, the Association & Cricket. Michael continues to help out with the Junior Blasters. The newly introduced coloured playing T-Shirts and Facebook posts / updates for games on Saturdays and other events were a welcome change, and a big hit with players, parents, coaches & managers. In terms of numbers, we maintained tradition, by registering over 200 players across various teams and age groups. This included more than 30 players in the newly launched Woolworths Junior Blasters & Master Blasters, an Under 10s non-competition team, 10 junior competition teams (Age groups U11, U13, U15/16), 4 senior competition teams plus a Junior U17s team which played in a turf competition on Sundays. Our success was at a high this year, with 10 of the 11 junior teams and all 4 senior teams reaching the Finals Series in 2 Associations (St George DCA & ISCC). Of these, 5 teams won the Premierships– U11A Green, U13C Green, U15/16A Green, 3rd Grade Green & 4th Grade. The Club’s playing depth was also highlighted with over 30 players achieving representative honours with St George DCA. Congratulations to all these teams & players. This year we also lost one of our long standing volunteers. Denis King who had served the club in various roles, and was the Club Junior Registrar & Minutes Secretary this year, lost a battle with cancer. Vale Denis King. In terms of traditions, club retained its core values of being family focussed and investing in the development of its junior players by hiring coaches - Dylan Venn for the Master Blasters, VIP Coaching Academy for the U11A Blue team, and Bushy Pillay for the pre-season KCC Blast program and the U17 Turf Competition team. In terms of supporting the Association, the Club continued its tradition. Although Michael Venn stepped down as Junior Competition Secretary, 4 KCC Committee Members formed a part of the Association Executive, with 3 of the members taking up new roles – Manisha Shirodkar as Public Relations Officer, Denis King as Junior Competition Secretary & Sean Myers as Committee Member. Morris Iemma continued as the Vice President. The formation of the 13C side was predominantly due to the drive & initiative by these members. Thanks to those who put in their time and efforts in the development & management of cricket. We are indebted to our loyal and generous sponsors Lantern Club & People Practices Pty. Ltd. whose support underpins our programs, activities and awards in not only developing the game of cricket, but also its spirit. Kingsgrove Cricket Club acknowledges the strength of the club – our players, and our volunteers. So thank you to our Players, Coaches, Managers, Parents and Committee Members. Thanks also to the Association and the dedicated committee (especially Danny Williams, Nick Aley and Matt Boland and) for their continued promotion and management of cricket in our area. Everyone appreciates your level of commitment. Special thanks also to the Cricket NSW Administrators & Development Managers – Cynthia Davies, Gerard Price. And welcome to Adam Bunce the new Cricket NSW Manager for Kingsgrove Cricket Club. It has been great working with you so far – and we look forward to taking the club to another level next year with your support.

Kingsgrove Cricket Club Yearbook 2018/2019 Page 5

When compiling the last Yearbook we do not know which KCC players win Association Awards in the current year, so we acknowledge here those players recognised by the Association for their achievements in the previous year. The Association presentation for 2017/2018 was held at 7:00 pm on Monday 19 June 2017 in the main auditorium at Club Rivers, 32 Littleton St, Riverwood. All StGCA representative players, premiership teams and individual Association award winners were invited to attend, and the following players were acknowledged for their achievements in the 2017/2018 season

Last year the statistics show that we were far and away the best team in that competition. At the start of this season the decision was made to go up two grades and see how things would pan out for us as we were looking to be challenged. Well it was back to back premierships for this team!! This time is was not all one way traffic though, it was hard fought and well deserved in the end. By and large we had a similar squad with a few new additions. We lost one of our strike bowlers and our best batsman only played one game. The belief we had built in ourselves over the past season shone through and we found a way to win even when the odds were stacked against us. We opened the season with a 1 run victory against Ramsgate RSL who ended up being our Grand Final opponents. Out of the 5 times we played each other the results ended up 3-2 in our favour. They were all hard fought games and we ended up having a well-earned respect for each other due to the nature of our clashes. We also had some very good games against our other KCC team who definitely had us on the ropes in the prelim final, but the rain came and washed out the second day. Who knows what would’ve happened there if it hadn’t rained, as the result could’ve gone either way. As always I’d like to thank the wives of all the dads I managed to talk into playing again this year…. Thank you for lending me you husbands each and every Saturday afternoon. I actually think they were probably glad to be rid of us! A big special thank you must go to all the kids that came up from the juniors to help out. Without their help we would’ve struggled to field a team some weeks. Who could forget the last wicket partnership between Taj and Sam (both under 13’s players), they managed a 31 run last wicket stand to help us win the game…outstanding effort that We all had a laugh and played some great cricket along the way, what a way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Well done 3rd graders what a great bunch of blokes!! Craig Bashall

It was a good season for the team finishing 3rd in the regular season and losing a closely contested semi-final. This is the first time the Club has entered a team in the Sunday turf competition. All the boys appreciated the opportunity to play on actual cricket grounds and the team thanks Morris and the Club for providing them with such an opportunity. I would like to thank Abid Rashid for managing the team and Aaron Smith for scoring and Bushy for assisting with coaching & umpiring. A special thank you to Manisha for all her assistance during the season and to all the boys that filled in when the team was short on players. Awards Allrounder: Rumman Nadeem with 207 runs and 18 wickets.

Rumman finished second on the runs list and first on the bowling list. Rumman also proved to be a very capable captain. Well done Rumman on a great season. Batting: Ayman Zeidan with 245 runs.

Ayman was the leading run scorer and also kept wickets. Ayman opened the batting and proved to be very capable batsmen on turf wickets. Well done Ayman. Bowling: Saadeem Hossain with 14 wickets.

Saadeem proved to be a very tough bowler to face on turf wickets taking a season best of 5 wickets for 8 runs against Balmain South Sydney in round 12. Saadeem was also very handy with the bat. Well done Saadeem. Coaches: Farhan Mohammad - 93 runs and took 13 wickets

The team finished 5th on the ladder that included a tie game and 2 very close games and was not far to qualify for the semi-finals. The team went through a very well-structured training program both pre-season and during the season including holidays and those who attended regularly improved a lot as the season went along. Majority of the team got ample opportunities to train and perform. I take this opportunity to thank a few people. Firstly, Pradeep for taking the role of team manager. I also like to thank Raj for scoring along with Pradeep and Subodh. My sincere thanks to Morris and Manisha for assisting me in whatever I needed during the season. Saadem Hossain: Sadeem has worked very hard this year and was regular in training. His bowling was a positive factor and he also contributed by bat in a few games. I look forward for him to have a better season next year. Arman Siddhu: Arman is the youngest member of this team but with a big heart. He only played only few games due to other commitments. He has exceptional batting technique and I hope he has a great next season. Mohammed Farhan: Farhan opened the bowling and was regular in training. He took full advantage of the opportunities that was presented to him. He. took 9 wickets and scored 178 runs. He will be moving up next season and I wish him all the best. Ayman Zeidan: Ayman was the team wicket keeper along with Harsh. It is his last season for us as he is moving up. I wish him all the best in his future endeavours. Harsh Shirodkar: This was the first season of Hash for my team. Due to his school games, he could only play a few games but gave his best in whatever he did. He is good with gloves and I see him turning into a first-rate keeper and a fine batsman in in the future. Hasnain Dar: Hasnain has natural talent but needs to train more often. I look forward for him to do justice to his talent the next season. He too got ample opportunities and I hope this experience helps him the next season. Nipun Kar: This was Nipuns first season in my team. He is very dedicated and was quite regular in the team. He is selfless and puts the team’s interest before his. I look forward to train him in the next season. Pranit Sarker: This was Pranit’s first season with my team. He is like Nipun regular in training and very selfless. I worked a lot on his batting and we got him to bat in the top order in a few games. I look forward to work with him next season. Aryan Totade: I invited Aryan from another club this year and he had a decent season with 212 runs and 5 wickets. He is very dedicated and selfless and I enjoyed working with him. I look forward for him to have an excellent next season.

Shayan Khan: This was Shayans first time to play under 15s and he showed good signs from time to time. He is keen and wants to improve on all facets of his game. I wish him all the best for the next season and beyond. Merit awards: Ali Khatri (Captain) I thank Ali for leading the side with distinction. Last season he was the highest wicket taker in the team and this year is no different. Ali has again taken the highest wickets in the team and the 3rd highest wickets in the competition. He has taken 14 wickets at strike rate of 28 plus he is the leading fielder in the competition with 10 catches. He attended all training sessions and was always the first one on the field. Due to his exceptional bowling achievement, Ali is selected for the bowling award for this year. Ruman Nadeem Ruman has scored the highest runs in the team for this season. 234 runs at average of 34 including an unbeaten 116. Ruman will be he will be moving up to another age group next season. He is a good fielder and team person who also taken 10 wickets. The batting award goes to Ruman Karan Deshwal Karan was the team’s vice captain and an exceptional all-rounder who even kept wickets when needed. He scored 205 runs, took 7 wickets and 9 catches. I look forward for him to do even better next season. Karan is my choice for the all-rounder award. Shahmeer Hossain Shahmeer was only second to Ali in attending all training sessions. Although he got limited opportunities in games, he never complained nor stop coming to training. He has a positive attitude and trusts the coach and puts his team before his own interest. I look forward for him to play a major role next season. Hence the Coaches award goes to Shahmeer Hossain.

The 2018/19 season saw us compete in a 12-team competition that was combined with CWSCA. It was very tight all season with the top half of the ladder changing frequently, in the end the difference between 8th and 4th spot was only 5 points. The season started strongly as we won our first 4 matches, but a mid-season slump saw us win only 2 of our next 6 matches, including a tied match, slipping out of the top 4 in the process. We found form again in the new year winning 3 of the next 4 games and headed into the last round just 3 points out of the finals race. It came down to the last match of the regular season in what was a must win game against ACC, whichever team won the game would make the finals and the loser bow out. We loss the toss and were sent in to bat and after a strong start we finished with 121 from our 30 overs on what was a very small outfield and the opposition chased us down with 3 overs to spare. It was a very enjoyable season with many highlights, new friendships formed, old ones strengthened, and new memories made. The depth in the squad made it difficult for the coach as we had a team all capable with both bat and ball. Special mention however to a few of our award winners. All Rounder: Alex Tzakos took out the All Rounder Award scoring 199 runs (second highest) and taking 12 wickets (4th highest). Batting: Thomas Raketic, the youngest member of the team took out or Batting Award with 279 runs at an average of 23.3. Bowling: Pete Vrondas, who only began bowling off spin half way through the season, captured the most wickets, 13 at an average of 10.7 with an economy rate at 3.5, was well deserving of the Bowling Award. Coach’s Award: The coach’s award was very tough to choose as there were many contenders for various reasons. In the end I chose Kayne Smith who had the unfortunate luck of breaking his wrist – TWICE! Even when he was out of action, he still turned up to every game providing support to the team. A big thank you to Joe and Rachel Keledjian for managing the scorebooks to perfection each week (and helping clarify some rules). To the parents, thank you very much for making the commitment each week so that your children can enjoy the greatest game of all. Thank you Jim Vrondas

A season where we finally got to play in our own age group and didn’t we enjoy it. We had a great season making it to the grand final only to be beaten on the day by a side chock full of representative players. Was so proud have how this team came together and stuck together for the whole season and how we didn’t rely on just one or two players everyone contributed at some point in the season which was great to see. Knowing that we beat the premiership team twice in the season was great and should give us the confidence to play against strong opposition in the future. As the coach, it was a great pleasure to coach this side and I am very proud of the team and would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge each:- Banerjee, Shuvayu: 178 runs @ 19.78; 9 wickets @ 13.44; 2 Catches, 3 Run Out Assists;

‘Shiv’ had another great season both with bat and ball and was our bowling award winner. His leg spin bowling is always great to watch and his good form in club cricket continued into the St George Gee Shield Rep side where he finished up the team’s leading wicket taker. He also earned himself the chance to trial for the NSW Academy side. I noticed some great improvements in his fielding which was great. A pleasure to coach and look forward to working with him next season. Bashall, Samuel: 57 runs @ 8.14; 4 wickets @ 19.50; 4 WK Catches 1 Run Out Assist

Sam was our courageous keeper who was solid as a rock behind the stumps and when he was sharing the keeping duties with James he was bowling tricky leg spinners. I would love to see him work more on his bowling because I think he could be very dangerous once he gets that consistency. Had an unlucky season with the bat but showed some good signs especially with one great innings of 23 where it mainly made up of boundaries. Great team player and nothing was ever an issue. Gandhi, Aaryan: 103 runs @ 14.71; 6 wickets @ 20.18.83; 9 Catches

What a pleasure it was to see how far Aaryan came from the start of the season to the end. His batting improved out of sight where he was one of the few that put their hand up to open the innings. His bowling also improved and was very economical, just needs to find a bit more consistency and he was as safe as houses in the field being our leading catcher. A pleasure to coach and have around the team. Keledjian, Henry: 192 runs @ 19.20; 7 wickets @ 12.43; 2 Catches, 1 Run Out Assist;

Henry had an excellent season that saw him put his hand up to open the batting and he did a great job and I was very pleased for him. Had a few issues with his bowling from a back injury but once he got that sorted we saw the old Henry who did a great job for us. Well done Henry in once again being selected for the St George Gee Shield Rep side this season. Keep up the hard work and I know you will continue improve in all facets of the game. A great team player who plays with lots of passion, a pleasure to coach. Kenny, James: 74 runs @ 8.22; 2 wickets @ 30.50; 2 Catches, 3 WK Catches,1 Run Outs Unassisted;

James had a year of big improvements especially with his keeping and his batting. His keeping went from strength to strength and he loved throwing himself around the ground stopping anything that came his way. His batting also came a long way this season with some great lusty hitting late in the innings when it was much needed. Just needs to have a little more patience when he bats and if keeps working hard at it I can see him making great strides next season. A pleasure to have in the side and I just loved his enthusiasm.

Kollias, Nektarios: 83 runs @ 11.86; 5 wickets @ 24.80; 2 Catches;

Nick was new to my side this season but fitted in beautifully and I loved how he always had a smile on his face no matter the result. His bowling was outstanding and his stats do not do him any justice. He was easily the quickest bowler in the competition and I wold love to see him try out for the rep side in the future because I feel he would do very well. Great in the field and with some work his batting will improve as well, just needs to move his feet more. Great team player and a pleasure to coach. McLoughlin, Taj: 188 runs @ 20.89; 8 wickets @ 16.25; 8 Catches, 3 Run Out Assists;

Taj was another one of our players who was selected for the St George Gee Shield Rep side this season. He was one of our most consistent players whether it was bat, ball, or in the field. A leader on the field who always gave 100% and showed lots of passion. Made some improvement on being too hard on himself and continues to work hard at it. Thanks Taj for a great season and I look forward to seeing you continue with the improvement. McNamara, James: 53 runs @ 8.83; 6 wickets @ 28.17; 3 Run Out Assists;

Jimmy was all heart this season and always gave myself and the team 100%. That hard work and effort resulted in him being selected in the St George Gee Shield side for the first time, a great achievement. He did a lot of b owling for us and when he had the consistency, he was tough to score off and took some vital wickets. Showed signs of improvement with this batting and with more hard work I can see that improving out of sight. Just brilliant in the field he created many run out opportunities for the side. Great team player and a pleasure to coach as he was always so positive. Thanks Jimmy! Moreton, Juliette: 18 runs @ 2.25; 9 wickets @ 19.67; 2 Catches, 1 Run Out Assist;

Juliette was new to my team this year but knew most of the team anyway and it didn’t take long till she was in there giving it to the boys. She had a great season with the ball and while batting was tough for her this season, I know the experience will serve her well in the seasons to come especially in her girls cricket. She was a pleasure to coach and would do anything for team. Thanks so much Juliette for being a great member of the side. Salameh, Zack: 292 runs @ 58.40; 10 wickets @ 13.80; 3 Catches, 1 Run Out Assist

Our standout performer this season with both and ball. Some devasting batting performances and I am looking forward to seeing how he goes when he is not restricted by the rules of the game, next season. Zack was another one of the team who was also selected in the St George Gee Shield Rep side. A great season for Zack who was such a pleasure to coach, always listened to the coach and tried his best. Keep working hard Zack and I know you will continue to improve and the results will continue to come. Wilson, Catherine: 86 runs @43.00; 4 wickets @ 13.25;1 Catch

Unfortunately, we only got to see Catherine after Christmas due to a bad foot injury but it was great having her back after the break as she proved she is always a valuable member of the side. In the few games she had with us she continued to score runs consistently and made us wonder what she would have done if she had been there the whole season. Her bowling also came a long way this season and I was really pleased at how consistent she was after coming back form a long layoff. A pleasure to coach and have in the side and I look forward to coaching her again next season. A big thank you to all the parents who assisted me during the season and covered for me and my work commitments. Special thanks go to Craig Bashall who managed the side brilliantly and took a big load off my shoulders. Thanks so much Craig! Also big thanks to Andrew, Joe & Rachel for scoring. Thanks to all the parents for being so punctual each week for both training and on game day! I hope you enjoyed the season as much as I did, and I look forward to seeing some of you again next season! Nathan McLoughlin Coach

What an amazing season for this team! If there was one way that I would describe this team it would be “the little engine that could”. Although everyone had played before only four (4) had played together which meant that time was needed for us to gel as a team. After the first round was washed out we would come up against the team that would eventually turn out to be the premiers in our first game. There were some encouraging signs as we could see straight away that we weren’t too far away. Our next few games were a real mixed bag with two good wins either side of a poor game, but it was this tough game that was the making of us in the end. From there the team took on a newfound resilience and as they got to know each other more things just started to click. With one more washout during the season we go on a run that would see us win nine (9) of our final ten (10) games! In doing so we beat everyone and finished the regular season in 3rd spot but just one competition point behind 1st and 2nd! Our semi final was one to remember with it coming down to the final ball and the opposition needing a single to win while we needed just one wicket. A fantastic caught behind saw the game end in a tie which meant we went through to the prelim final. Unfortunately that would be where our journey ended, losing to the eventual premiers – the only team to beat us more than once. I would like to thank and congratulate all of the boys on their efforts throughout the season. It was pleasing to see the individual improvements across the board, the enjoyment on their faces, and the way the group became such a tight-knit unit. Zohair AKHUNJI: 37 runs @ 4.63 (best 13); 4 wickets @ 37.75 (best 3-23); 4 catches; 4 run-outs.

Every team needs someone like Zohair! Always giving 100% and thinking of the team it was an absolute pleasure having Zohair in our team. All the best for the future

Aryan DHONGADE: 191 runs @ 27.29 (best 32no); 9 wickets @ 19.22 (best 3-23); 3 catches; 1 run-out.

It was simply a pleasure to have Aryan in the team this season. He quickly showed that as one of our top-age players that he could take on a leadership role and that helped his younger teammates immensely. Congratulations on a fantasic season Aryan Vasili FILIPPATOS: 45 runs @ 11.25 (best 13); 3 wickets @ 21.67 (best 2-9).

Vasili only managed to play about half the season due to school commitments but it was clear even from this limited amount that he has plenty of potential. Harnessing his energy into the right avenue will see Vasili go a long way. It was a pleasure to have you in the team

Ayaan HAFIZ: 125 runs @ 20.83 (best 24); 3 wickets @ 38 (best 1-7); 7 catches; 4 run-outs.

Ayaan’s continued his great development this season. His batting was reliable and his spin bowling proved hard to play at times, while his wicket-keeping went to a new level adding another dimension to his game. Ayaan’s results this season are well deserved

Team Reports

Kingsgrove Cricket Club Yearbook 2018/2019 Page 20

Raadee HOSSAIN: 133 runs @ 14.78 (best 24); 2 wickets @ 68 (best 1-3); 2 catches; 1 run-outs.

Raadee was an X-factor for our team. His swashbuckling innings could turn a game as we had to remind ourselves that this was only his second season of club cricket. Bowling and fielding remain areas to keep working on but there is plenty to like about Raadee’s game

Minol JAYAWARDANA: 275 runs @ 45.83 (best 42no); 10 wickets @ 15.9 (best 2-8); 2 catches; 6 run-outs.

Minol really grew into a leader this season. He was solid with the bat, reliable with the ball, and became more and more tactical what he thought was best for the team. Minol has a very bright future and I will watch on with keen interest. Jake MYERS: 175 runs @ 43.75 (best 27no); 14 wickets @ 12.14 (best 3-6); 4 catches; 4 run-outs.

Another great season for Jake finishing the season as the leading wicket-taker for the entire competition and was a consistently strong performer. Great things are on the horizon for Jake who is a natural leader and helps to bring the best out of his teammates. Riley MYERS: 101 runs @ 16.83 (best 25no); 12 wickets @ 12.58 (best 2-6); 5 catches; 3 run-outs.

Riley’s wicket-keeping this season was really something else. His batting was steady, but it was his leg spin which for the second year in a row proved to be very hard for opponents to put away. There may not be much of him but he gives everything and there is not a player who cares more about his teammates than Riley. Chris PARTHENIS: 171 runs @ 28.50 (best 49no); 7 wickets @ 17.43 (best 2-3); 10 catches; 6 run-outs; 1 stumping.

New to KCC this season Chris fitted in like a glove. When he is on there are few better batters to watch. His bowling is top-shelf but it was the unveiling of his skill behind the stumps that rounded out a fantastic season. Well done Chris

Luke RODRIGUES: 114 runs @ 19.00 (best 21no); 6 wickets @ 26.67 (best 2-7); 2 catches; 7 run-outs.

A season that was always on the cusp of really breaking out for Luke. He just has some real natural ability that is amazing but being more consistent is what will really take him to the next level. Congratulations Luke Awards All Rounder: Minol Jayawardana Batting: Aryan Dhongade Bowling: Jake Myers Coach's: Chris Parthenis

The Under 11 Blue Team played very well this year and progress up to semi final. We were initially as B team, but the competition ladder was merged, which meant we had to play against A teams in the competition. That said the team has been very competitive in most of the matches we have played. We suffered a bit initially for player attendance at the beginning, but after the Christmas holidays most of the players regularly attended which helped us progress to the Semi Finals. Special thanks to Manisha for arranging training session with VIP Coaching. Those who attended regularly have improved a lot. I want to take the opportunity to thank Peter Papalexis for Umpiring on most of the days and Russel for Scoring. Thanks to all parents who attended and support us. All the players have worked hard, but some of them have developed more than the rest. I want to nominate these players for their outstanding performance: All Rounder: I want to nominate Jahin Rashid for the All Rounder award. He has scored 198 runs with a batting average of 22 and 19 wickets with a strike rate of 7.89. He leads the team as Captain for most of the matches. His best achievement is 5 wickets for 23. Bowling: I want to nominate Zarif for the Bowling award. He is the highest wicket taker for the team - 20 wickets with a strike rate of 5.85. His best achievement is 4 wickets for 24. Batting: I want to nominate Rayat Pervej again for Batting Award. He is the 3rd highest scorer in the team after Zarif & Jahin. He has scored 132 runs with an average of 18.86. Coach’s/ Captains award: I want to nominate Dimitrios Papalexis for this category. He has attended all the matches, all the training session and wanted to play more. He is a happy boy always and tries to make everyone happy. Special award: Special award goes to Jahin Rashid who has scored 5 wickets for 23 runs against St. Joseph Red.

The team finished as the undefeated premiers for 2018/19 season. We had 10 players and what an awesome effort everyone put in. We were the top notch team. The team played as a collective unit and had loads of fun. We shared responsibility all through. Even in finals everyone got the same balls to batt and bowl and everyone did their part in winning. We trained every Friday and everyone attended. I have seen the boys develop so much in this year with their bowling been the standout. A special thank you to the parents who supported all players as their own. They were vocal from the side, participated in cheering the team an above all looked after everyone. An icecream was a regular treat thanks to the parents and I have to say it was a pleasure to know them all. Player Report Aman Jahgirdar Aman developed his game so much. Throughout the season many players demonstrate the qualities and attributes to be a fine cricketer - effort, improvement, attendance, sacrifice, perseverance, sportsmanship, dedication, and reliability. And in some cases they have the statistics as well. Congratulations on an excellent season, but remember it would not have been possible without team mates taking catches, saving runs with good fielding, partnering the batting and encouraging you all the way. Remember to thank your coach, team mates and family for their support. You could not have done it without them.

Perpetual Awards

Kingsgrove Cricket Club Yearbook 2018/2019 Page 31

Spirit of Cricket This award is for an individual who demonstrates the spirit of cricket, not necessarily by their achievements or awards or the way they play, but by their attitude and approach. This award is sponsored by People Practices Pty Ltd. Once we receive nominations, the Committee & the Award Sponsor will together finalise the award.

3RD GRADE BLUE TEAM

The winner of this award is the 3rd Grade Blue Team for their display of sportsmanship and spirit of cricket in Round 1 of the competition. The Beverly Hills Team which played against the 3rd Grade Team in Round 1 comprised of a number of youngsters, some of whom had barely played much cricket let alone at a senior level. When KCC 3rd Grade Blue team saw this they modified their play including ensuring that the Beverly Hills players scored and were given some time in the middle. Given this was a competition game there was nothing saying that KCC Blue had to do that but it was a tremendous show of sportsmanship epitomizing what the spirit of cricket is all about.

Club Person of the Year

This award recognises a person associated with the club who has contributed significantly above and beyond their normal role. Saheel stepped in to help out even before the Season start. His contribution was multi fold - Committee Member, Coach was the roles he had, but he went beyond those roles. All the more appreciable, since he was working full time, plus studying for a MBA.

• At the beginning of the season he helped out in Grading Stage 1. This was extremely important, as other coaches had various other commitments (end of season for soccer), and being Stage 1, there weren't many parent volunteers.

• He offered to train both U11 teams as the 2nd team did not have a coach at the beginning of the season.

• He mentored the newly appointed manager of the 2nd 11 team, Zarif Zilani on how to manage the team - umpiring, scoring etc.

• He helped out with umpiring in the 13A Green team where his older son played, when the Coach Sean Myers was away.

• He is an extremely popular coach - shows in the results, his team went on to become undefeated U11 Premiers.

NICHOLAS BOSNAC Nicholas has been a proud member of kcc since the u 10. He has had a varied and successful junior career winning premierships across all age groups. He has also had the opportunity to play representative cricket for a large part of his junior years. Nicholas played up an age grade for several years winning premierships in the 14, 16 and 17 ‘s while in a higher age grade. He contributed to the team with his batting as well as with his enthusiasm in the field. The same effort and skills is making him successful as a soccer referee
