Case Study Kingsway Bridge - Warrington Cheshire www.marshalls.co.uk/select Bradford Post and Parapet System Challenge Warrington Borough Council approached Marshalls Street Furniture for their assistance in providing a new post and parapet system on the Kingsway Bridge. Crossing the River Mersey, which runs through the centre of Warrington, the bridge is one of only two that cross the river and is therefore a busy route for pedestrians and motorists. Originally built in 1934, the four span bridge underwent a significant refurbishment and repair programme. The requirements of the Council were for the new system to provide a durable, low level containment solution to segregate a pedestrian walkway from road traffic, whilst creating a traditional aesthetic which complemented the surrounding area. Solution In order to meet the project requirements, Marshalls proposed the use of the Bradford Post and Parapet system. The Bradford system is a decorative solution that complements and enhances the traditional aesthetic of the surrounding environment. Designed for use on parapet applications which require low level containment, the Bradford Post and Parapet system is designed to meet the requirements of the BS6779: Part 1 ‘Highway Parapets for bridges and other structures’. The system was specified in mild steel with Ferrocast embellishments, which consisted of Ferrocast posts with decorative Ferrocast caps and steel panels with Ferrocast detailing. The scheme was installed at the site by Marshalls’ specialist in house installation team. Benefits The Bradford Post and Parapet System has provided not only a durable and aesthetically pleasing solution, it also allows for maximum visibility, so pedestrians can enjoy the surrounding landscape in safety for years to come.
