On Monday our staff participated in our first training in Visible Wellbeing with the Singleton Learning Community of Schools at the Civic Centre. Professor Lea Walters from the University of Melbourne led and facilitated learning on the day which explained research around positive education, positive psychology, and strengths based learning. It was reaffirming to know that we are implementing a lot of strategies as a school already and motivating to be trained in a framework that will make this more explicit and whole community orientated. It is very exciting to be part of this whole community of schools initiative. Thank you to our families who assisted us to attend this training through their flexibility in staff development dates. Congratulations to Savanna, Felina and Jasmine who were selected to represent our school in the zone finals and travelled to Newcastle. I know you saw many quality speakers and we are very proud of you all. The netball gala hosted by St Catherine’s College was a big day. Our students played their best against some very strong sides, winning two out of the five games on the day. Thank you very much to the parents that assisted with transport on the day and who were able to come and support our team. I spent the day umpiring and truly appreciated your help on the sideline scoring and directing students in new positions. Term 3, Week 4 Achieve With Pride 16th August, 2019

Hello everyone!

On Monday our staff participated in our first

training in Visible Wellbeing with the Singleton

Learning Community of Schools at the Civic

Centre. Professor Lea Walters from the University

of Melbourne led and facilitated learning on

the day which explained research around

positive education, positive psychology, and

strengths based learning. It was reaffirming to

know that we are implementing a lot of

strategies as a school already and motivating to

be trained in a framework that will make this

more explicit and whole community orientated.

It is very exciting to be part of this whole

community of schools initiative. Thank you to our

families who assisted us to attend this training

through their flexibility in staff development

dates.

Congratulations to Savanna, Felina and

Jasmine who were selected to represent our

school in the zone finals and travelled to

Newcastle. I know you saw many quality

speakers and we are very proud of you all.

The netball gala hosted by St Catherine’s

College was a big day. Our students played

their best against some very strong sides,

winning two out of the five games on the day.

Thank you very much to the parents that

assisted with transport on the day and who

were able to come and support our team. I

spent the day umpiring and truly appreciated

your help on the sideline scoring and directing

students in new positions.

Staff and students are looking forward to

book week this week. Please come and join

us Wednesday for our parade, open

classroom learning and a picnic lunch. Feel

free to dress up too! Books are on sale all

week for our school and surrounding

community. Our school receives a

commission for every book sold at the book

fair. All money raised will be used to

purchase books for our students.

Our 4/5/6 camp to Great Aussie Bush Camp

is just around the corner. A note will come

home Monday with final details. Our bus will

depart from school Monday 26th at 8.15am. I

ask all students be at school before 8am on

this day. We will return prior to 3pm on the

Wednesday.

We look forward to our next extended

orientation day at Singleton High School this

Tuesday where Mr Martin will take us for a

technology lesson among our other learning.

On Friday the small schools will also

participate in a Year 6 peer support activity

day with Singleton High School students and

teachers at Milbrodale PS where we will

begin the process of passing on information

about the learning needs of our children for

a smooth transition next year. I am just

waiting on some final information about

transport times so that this note can go out

Monday. My apologies for the delay.

An exciting and busy week!

Book Week

Book Week is approaching and the

theme is “Reading is my secret power.”

We will be holding a dress up day and

parade on Wednesday 22nd August

starting at 9.30am. Students (and adults)

can dress as their favourite book

character or in this year’s theme.

On this day we will combine the parade

with our assembly. We will have open

classrooms for parents to come and

share in the children’s learning after the

parade, followed by a picnic lunch with

our families at 11am.

Books will be on sale for this entire week

from 8.00-9am and 3-3.30pm and can be

purchased by parents, children or

Talk Like A Pirate Day & Splash & Dash

Fundraiser

This term we will be hosting Triple M 6am-

9am on the 19th September which is Talk

Like a Pirate Day. Triple M will provide a

bacon and egg breakfast. Watch this

space for more information about

accompanying activities as the date

approaches.

We need lots of people –Spread the news.

Our aim is to have people talking about

our school and knowing where we are.

The second part of this day is our Pirate

activities and Splash and Dash where we

will be inviting our local preschool students

as well as our Kirkton students and families.

“What is a Splash and Dash?” I hear you

ask. It is the newest form of colour run—an

obstacle course where coloured water

and bubbles are sprayed at competitors as

they have fun moving through various

obstacles. We will use this day to help us

raise funds for our play equipment with an

online donation platform is set up now.

We also intend to donate 10% of total

funds raised to Childhood Cancer Support.

Please read the parent letter attached to

the next page and launch your online

fundraising platform. Please let me know if

you require any assistance.

Healthy Eating

As part of our Live Life Well at School

Program we are introducing Nude Food

days to our calendar. We are aiming to

assist our students in making healthy food

choices as well as reducing our plastic

waste. We would love for our students to

be making conscious healthy choices

every day and bringing nude food to

school as much as possible. Please see

Nude Food information flyer for some

great food choice ideas and food

packaging ideas.

Our Nude Food days for this term will be:

Thursday 22nd August

Thursday 26th September

We appreciate your help in assisting and

encouraging your child/ren to make

good food choices and take an active

part in these days. We are aiming to get

100% involvement from our students.

During the month of September we will be

celebrating Fruit and Vegetable Month

with various learning activities as well as

giving the students opportunities to taste

and enjoy fruits and vegetables that they

may not often experience. Stay tuned for

some pictures of taste testing!
