Gear design, analysis and optimisation Types of gears Cylindrical gears: Helical/spur gears, gear pair, planetary gear set, chain of gears (3 or 4 gears), rack and pinion, single gear Bevel gears: Bevel-gear pair, hypoid gears (with axis offset), straight-, helical, skew-, Klingelnberg-, and Gleason-cut Worm gear: Worm and worm gear. Crossed helical gears: Helical gears with crossed axes. Face gears: 3D geometry and strength analysis of face gears Splines: According to DIN 5480, ISO4156, ANSI B92.1 or following user's definition. Special tooth forms: Cycloid and circle shaped tooth, any other forms imported from CAD Export Geometry: Export accurate tooth geometry 2D or 3D, different formats (IGES, STEP, SAT, DXF, …)

Calculation of Geometry Spur and helical gears, internal and external gears, comprehensive calculation of geometry with reference profile according to ISO 53, DIN 867, DIN 58405, DIN 3972 and user specified; calculation and sizing of addendum modification coefficient, all checks such as contact interference, undercut, sharp tooth, etc.; display of specific gliding, display of contact stiffness during meshing cycle, automatic modification of tooth root and tooth tip.

Extensive geometry and tolereances manager:

Manufacturing Tolerances of centre distance and tooth thickness deviation according to DIN 3967, DIN 58405 and user defined table, calculation of all control-measures (base tangent length, measure over rollers and balls, dimensions over 3 wires, tooth thickness) and production tolerances (single deviation and roll deviation according to ISO 1328, DIN 3961, DIN 58405 and BS 436).

Strength calculation Strength calculation for tooth root, flank (pitting) and scoring (flash- and integral temperature) according to ISO 6336, DIN 3990, AGMA 2001; differentiated strength analysis (foot, flanks) on the basis of the exact tooth form; bevel gears according to DIN 3991, ISO/DIS 10300, worms according to DIN 3996. More than 100 materials (steels, aluminium, bronze, casting, plastic) and proposal for hardness depth.

Use load spectras for lifetime analysis (up to 50 steps), read load spectras from text files or database. Values of parameters (e.g. K_hb) are calculated for each step of the spectra. Damages are calculated and reported:

Tooth form Calculation of tooth form by exact simulation (and control) of production process, up to 300 points per flank, display of meshing and contact ratio (gear to gear, tool to gear), transfer to CAD or NC-program, specialities like calculation of tooth form with a tool or with the counter-wheel imported from CAD.

Draft / Optimisation KISSsoft has dozens of integrated drafting and optimising functions as assistance for the various inputs. For the complete dimensioning of gear pairs, a very flexible integrated design drafting procedure is available. The fine adjustment/optimisation is an extremely powerful calculation of variants for optimizing gear pairs and planetary gear sets (according to criteria such as noise, vibration, gliding, course of meshing stiffness, accuracy of ratio, strength, weight). From required lifetime, given load and centre distance to an optimised gear geometry within a few mouse clicks. Assess proposed gear variants graphically or by weighting functions.

CAD interfaces Export of data as text (in a form to be defined by the user) into CAD, export of gear contour and of tooth form into CAD (DXF, HPGL, VDA, CDL, NC and other formats).

Special applications The calculation programs are comprehensive and allow - by way of their modular design - for specific use in special fields: • Industrial gearboxes: Gear-sizing, optimising of gears in respect to strength, noise, precision and efficiency • Automotive: Fine lay-out of gears for restricted conditions in terms of available space, optimising noise and

tooth stress • Precision mechanics: Calculation of geometry, deviation of base tangent length, reference profiles according

to DIN 58400, interfering cutter/tool, strength calculation, optimizing of tooth form • Plastic gears: Strength calculation for plastics (service life und influence of temperature) according to VDI

2545; calculation of backlash taking into account the swelling; optimised profile modification for uniform, noise-optimised run; optimised foot rounding with display of tooth-root tensions; radial und tangential strain of tooth form for discerning the casting form; spark-compensation for discerning of electrode

• High speed gearboxes or gear boxes with minimal backlash: Sizing of addendum modification factor, proposition for profile correction and calculation, operating backlash taking into account temperature and production, deep tooth form

• Special tools and special tooth forms: Interface for reading tool data or tooth-form data, which were drawn in CAD, calculation of tooth form reference profile, strength analysis

• Deep tooth form: Proposal for deep-tooth form for user defined nominal contact ratio • Equivalent design loads and service life: Equivalent design loads using user defined spectra, to be managed

in a database, life calculation according to Miner, Haibach and Corten-Dolan, calculation of service life or of transmissable torque

Reporting Comprehensive reports are created including all gear data including geometry, tolerances and strength data. Report templates can be modified, project specific templates possible, length of report can be variied.
