QUAVERS - Page 1 - Sept, 2016 From the President What a summer this has been. I hope you all found time to relax and recharge. I want to extend one more HUGE thank you to Melanie Harris for being a wonderful president and such a terrific example of 'juggling hats' with grace and style. Thanks to Melanie's eorts along with Me- gan Hennings and Mary Grant to complete our entry form, our chapter won the WSMTA Chapter of the Year Award!! Accepting this award at the state conference was an amaz- ing way to kick-omy tenure as president. I hope I can fill the shoes Melanie has vacated! The fall season is upon us and I'm putting my energy into planning and preparing music, studio goals, student goals, and personal goals. Most people think of January as goal setting time, but for me it's always August and Septem- ber. Now's the time to think about Kitsap Young Musicians Festival, Young Composers Project, Adjudications, and Mu- sic Carnival to name just a few of the programs that you and your students can be involved in. This is the time I'm figuring out new technique plans for students and what new repertoire will challenge yet not overwhelm my stu- dents. For myself I'm deciding what new idea to imple- ment in my studio that will hopefully improve my teaching skills and how I connect with students. All this planning always excites me and charges my batteries to full power. I hope yours are charged as well as we kick-othis new teaching year. Participating in our chapter meetings and workshops, as well as attending conferences inspires me and I learn more then I can possibly put into practice. I'm sure this year will be no dierent. Our new president-elect, Jane Melin, along with the help of several other members, has prepared a terrific slate of programs for us. Keep your ears open also for the upcoming District III conference that Mary Grant is planning for us. Through these opportuni- ties, I hope you will find many interesting kernels of infor- mation to inspire you and implement in your own studio. Here's to a fabulous reign as Chapter of the Year!! Diane Layton, President From the Vice President Welcome back to a new year of KMTA!
