KITTEN KABOODLE is a dystopian sci-fi comedy, set in a future where kittens have destroyed humanity and become the dominant life form on the planet. In Kittopia, EMPEROR CUTIE keeps the populace docile through intentionally dumb cat videos and constant video surveillance.

When EVANS MEW is promoted to Head of Propaganda, he starts off excited to make all of the shows his fellow kittizens need to inspire them to greatness!

But he soon realizes that every action he takes, no matter how well-intentioned, can throw Kittopia and his own life into turmoil. Create movies that are too inspiring, and kittens start rebelling. If they’re not inspired enough, the innocent kittizens are helpless against the Emperor’s nefarious whims and secret police of adorable bullies. At this rate, it won’t take long for the Emperor to realize that the person behind all his new woes is Evans himself!

The Story

Page 5: Kitten Kaboodle Look Book

Exploring our relationships to media and technology and how our perception of the world changes based on what we watch, Kitten Kaboodle will satirize the current cultural landscape, but make it all fun and safe, fluffy and cute. These are characters that people will fall in love with, week after week.

EVANS MEW - EVANS begins the show as a low-level producer at The Ministry of LAWLZ. When his work catches the eye of Emperor Cutie, Evans is catapulted to the new position of Head of Propaganda (hooray).

With this enormous promotion, he sees first-hand the scope of the media machine and the truly frightening world that was hiding beneath the television noise, and becomes sentient.

At first quietly subversive, his role in the revolution will become more prominent as the series progresses. How does he accomplish this? With the Emperor’s own greatest weapon: TELEVISION.

EMPEROR CUTIE — His most noble, Kitten of Kittens, Light of the Civilized World, The Pawdashah EMPEROR CUTIE is the high ruler of Kitten Kaboodle. Through enigmatic means he has survived countless centuries and attained massive size.

The largest kitten in the empire, Cutie spends a great deal of his time napping around the Imperial Palace, getting belly rubs from tiny servants and generally living a life of ridiculous opulence — but he is also a master of deception and keenly plays his opponents off of each other (often without them realizing it until too late).

He is quite possibly the cutest kitten in the whole kingdom, but if you disagree with him on that, he quickly becomes terrifying.

PRINCE CUTIE, THE LITTLEST — The youngest and most beloved son of the Emperor, PRINCE CUTIE also has the distinction of being the tiniest adult kitten in the realm and the most adored national figure after his father. He is always cheerful, bubbly, and wholly oblivious to the grand machinations around him.

Prince Cutie wants to be the nation’s greatest film star and after the Emperor takes notice of Evans’s work, the Prince is constantly forced into his new projects. Spaceman, cowboy, secret agent, romantic lead — The Littlest Cutie plays them all!

Prince Cutie has blue eyes that match the blue eyes of his father. He can (and sometimes does) walk, but he usually bounces wherever he goes. He’s essentially a fluff ball that’s come to life.

THE DUKE, SEBASTIAN - The 13th child of 144 sons, THE DUKE is the Emperor’s most intelligent and capable offspring and is largely the one responsible with handling the day to day affairs of the Empire. Despite this, he receives little acknowledgement from his father. Suspicious of Evans’s motivations, the Duke sees destroying Evans as an opportunity to win his father’s favor while also secretly making plans to seize the throne.

He is extremely conniving and dangerous. He is so over-stressed, he sometimes breaks into song and dance (without realizing it). The Duke has green eyes that match the green of the Emperor.

KITTY LEVI — The greatest star in the Empire enjoys access anywhere and to anyone. She is the most recognized celebrity figure and revels in the attention and privilege. Evans falls for her after working together on a blockbuster project, but unfortunately for him the Duke has also set his eyes on Kittopia’s sweetheart.

KITTY LEVI is this world’s version of a golden age Hollywood star. She’s glamorous, sexy, intelligent. She wears all the right things, always has something pithy or cutting to say, knows the best people and attends the best parties. If she could be convinced to join sides with either Evans or the Duke, she would be a powerful ally… but she has her own set of motivations.

TIM, FROM I.T. — Not only is TIM one of Evans’s co-workers, he’s also his state-mandated Best Friend Forever! He’s the guy that solves everyone’s technical issues, but despite his uncanny ability with technology, he’s also one of the simplest kittens in the building.

Since Tim is unwaveringly loyal to the Cutie Party, and also a trustworthy goof, he has access codes and keys to virtually every important government building in the city, but has never stopped to think of the implications of his power. Because of his simple nature and modesty, Tim has also never mentioned that he doesn’t just work in IT, he’s The Czar of Information Technology — making him 168th in line of succession to the throne.

MARGOT O’PURR — MARGOT is an orphan rescued by Emperor Cutie during a patrol of THE WILD LANDS, the area beyond the city walls. She was raised to be a fanatical loyalist. She is famous as the kingdom’s premiere news-anchor, but she has a secret life as a spy and assassin. Missions and wet-work that are morally ambiguous - and that other kittizens might hesitate to do - are assigned to Margot. Her devotion to the Emperor and the cause will never falter.

You don’t have to like or agree with what she does, but you certainly don’t want to stand in her way when she’s on a mission.

THE BISKITS - THE BISKITS are Emperor Cutie’s fanatical personal guard and adorable secret police. They are extra tiny, but possess extraordinary speed and strength. The Emperor always keeps a few hidden in his fur, giving belly rubs and standing ready to take a laser blast from assassins. They often handle important Imperial errands like: Kittizen surveillance, fetching royal snacks, delivering royal messages, rounding up dissidents, etc., etc.

Biskits will reanimate after being dealt a “fatal” blow. The only way to ensure a Biskit stays dead is to destroy the body entirely, e.g., thrown into a volcano, missile blast, hurled into the sun. They never stop being cute, even when they’re murdering dissident rebels.

Pilot“Happy Birthday, Mr. Emperor” — With the Emperor’s birthday fast approaching, it’s up to Evans Mew to produce the annual tribute film in his honor. The movie is so good The Emperor decides to make a personal call to Evans to congratulate him - by overriding his TV and making a face to face call while Evans is enjoying dinner. Before he realizes what’s happening, Evans is promoted to Head of Propaganda and is thrown right into the dizzying heights of The Emperor’s Media Machine.

“Vertikitten” — After a chance encounter with a beautiful rebel girl, Evans can’t seem to get her out of his mind. When he fails to track down her whereabouts, he turns to reshaping Kitty Levi into her image. What was supposed to be a simple comedy film gets changed into a noir thriller about identity/personality swapping. It’s kind of creepy and also doesn’t help his chances of getting a date with Ms. Levi. “Planet of the Cats” — The Littlest Cutie likes sci-fi and wants to star in one. Evans is forced to comply, but doubting the Prince’s acting chops, he pulls out a terrible script he’s been sitting on for years. It’s a far-fetched hack job about kittens sharing a common link with a long extinct animal species: Cats. In this topsy-turvey story, Cats are the dominant species and kittens are hunted for sport. But while filming, Evans stumbles upon a shattering discovery: Cats were once kittens. Damnit, they were kittens all along!

“Coming Attractions” — The Littlest Cutie’s new action movie isn’t getting enough buzz (for good reason), so Evans is tasked with creating a sensational trailer to pique the public’s interest. Using every cheap trick he can think of, he creates a trailer so popular that the government contemplates whether they should continue making features or simply switch over to an entirely trailer based film system.

“When Darkness Falls, A Hero Will Rise” - The latest movie Evans is working on is a summer blockbuster/superhero movie, with the most generic tag-line conceivable. Evans complains that the whole endeavor is too pedestrian, but when an unexpectedly strong summer gale blows the Ministry’s broadcasting dish out of alignment, a media blackout falls across the kingdom. With the public in panic and kittens self-defenestrating in alarming numbers, Evans has no choice but to rise to roof access and nudge the dish back into operation, so they can have their summer tripe again.

“The Pawing” - Evans makes a beautifully paced and shot art film in Kubrick style. It gets mixed reactions from the public. Later, on his way home he is beset by a group of newly sentient street kittens calling themselves “Doogs”. Realizing that it’s a mistake to have some kittens become sentient too quickly, he puts them all into a Clockwork Orange type contraption and forces them to watch 12 hours straight of hit show “Kittens Playing with String”.

“Kittizen Idol” - Reality TV is the most popular genre produced, but unfortunately The Ministry has run out of subjects to film - until someone has the brilliant idea to create a title sequence and then simply turn every TV monitor into a camera. Kittizens every- where are amazed and delighted to be the personal star of their new favorite show. Certainly, no one is using this reverse feed for intrusive monitoring...of course not!
