Housekeeping
To provide a pleasant and helpful social experience for all engaged in college band work and to cooperate with other musical organizations in any manner consistent with the purposes of the institution at which chapters are located.
5th Purpose
Following WWI – greater interest in band music
Few national organizations for professional musicians, but none for college or university band members
Movement to create such organization started at then Oklahoma A&M College (Oklahoma State University)
National History
Band member William Scroggs, Professor Bohumil Makovsky, and Band President A. Frank Martin held a secret conference to select the first ten brothers

Bohumil Makovsky was the first National Honorary Member of Kappa Kappa Psi
Currently serves over 200 college and university band programs with over 5,000 active members

Officially recognized as “The Guiding Spirit of Kappa Kappa Psi.”

Bohumil Makovsky
Boh immigrated to the United States in 1895 at the age of seventeen to join his sister in Clarkson, Nebraska
At the turn of the century, Boh decided to form his own band.

Moved to Woodward, Oklahoma in 1904 “King of Oklahoma March” – Boh’s first
march Selected as band director at Oklahoma
Agricultural and Mechanical College on September 1, 1915
Boh resigned his position at OAMC in July 1943 due to WWII, age and Parkinson’s Disease
