Klaverfestival

OPUS 15Free choice - all meant to be a

present to Carl Nielsen

Pianister fra Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium

&Tjajkovskij konservatoriet, Moskva

5. oktober - 11. oktober 2015

VELKOMMEN

Dear Carl,

Thank you for your "Humoreske Bagateller", they are fantastic to perform.

They create new fun and new happiness each time they are being played.

Yours Sincerely,Benedikte

SOFIIA KUDRIASHEVA

I want to say Happy Birthday, Carl Nielsen!

His music brings us all together.

Although he lived in the 19./20. century, his music lives with us now.

I sincerely hope that we all will enjoy this festival!

SANDRA PLAUŠKAITĖ

A big composer has a big birthday this year!

Even though I have never played Carl Nielsen's works before, I fell in love with his music after I started to play the last three pieces for piano op. 59.

It is a very individual and sarcastic work full of contrasts. Tonality - atonality, gentleness - brutality, melodic - percussive. That is why I love this Carl Nielsen's piece and the rest of his music.

LEA MAXIMILIANE HEINING

Dear Carl Nielsen

Congratulations on your birthday! As a present, I would like to play two of Debussy’s preludes for you. The title of the first prelude ”La Danse de Puck” relates to the little creature called ”Puck” from the northern folklore - playfully and light-hearted it dances in the piece. In the other prelude, which has the title ”La terrasse des audiences du clair de lune”, you will find yourself surrounded by mystical sounds revealed in the light of the moonlight.

Like yourself, Debussy also developed a new tone-language in which he tells music – and although his musical style differs from your own, I hope you will sit back and just enjoy the different sounds and atmos-pheres presented in the two preludes!

Congratulations and kind regards from Lea Heining

KRISTOFFER BRUUN REFER

JENS RIEMER

Congratulations, Carl Nielsen!

I'm looking so much forward to celebrating you with a musical greeting tonight. I will be playing an extract from Schuberts Move-ments Musicaux, and I hope you will enjoy it!

I have loved your music since I was little and always enjoyed explo-ring your production. I first met your music in the songs and the two small works for piano. Later on you really blew me away the first time I heard your symphonic works!

Your music is very dear to me; sometimes I even feel that parts of my national identity is reflected in your music; like a joyfull greeting to springtime, an old heroic poem or a precious lullaby.

Happy Birthday!

JULIE BRORSEN SMIDT

Happy Birthday, Carl Nielsen.

It is truly amazing to hear so much of your wonderful music for a whole week.

Also I am looking forward to play a selection of ”Scherben” - 19 Etudes-Postludes (2002) by the contemporary danish composer Søren Nils Eichberg.

You are 118 years older than him, but I find this piece really brilliant and I think you will too.

DAVID MUNK-NIELSEN

Happy birthday, my friend!

I have earlier with great pleasure played your Humoreske Bagateller, and I really enjoyed playing them! You are such a great composer, and your music is fantastic! That’s why I want to celebrate your birth-day by playing a lot of other brilliant pianomusic for you!

I’m not sure if you liked Chopin that much. But I think you should give it a try and listen to some of the etudes from op. 10 that Chopin wrote. But if you don’t like that, I’m sure you will appreciate the two Brahms rhapsodies that I will play for you as well. Maybe they can cheer you up a bit if you don’t like the etudes, because I know you loved Brahms very much!

Kind regards,David

LAN YU

Congratulations, dear Carl Nielsen! You will always be remembered for your songs, which brings together the nationalism of the Danes. This year, you would have turned 150 - what an age!

For this special occasion, I want to dedicate two pieces to you. The first one is one of Chopin’s nochturnes with the very beautiful and characteristic melody and the second piece is from Rachmaninov’s Moment Musicaux.

I am looking forward to play in this OPUS festival and I will do my very best to give you and the audience an amazing music experi-ence.

I hope you all will enjoy the two pieces with completely different ex-pressions.

ANDREY SKRIPKIN

ROSITA SEEBERG

Dear Carl Nielsen,

Congratulations on your birthday!

I have chosen to play Jørgen Jersild's "Trois Pieces en Concert". Jørgen Jersild was also a danish composer, and I am sure you would have liked his music. He was only a young man, when you lived, but I have a feeling that he was very much inspired by you.

MARIANO MIGUEL SÁNCHEZ

Happy birthday, Carl Nielsen!

Your piano music has been unknown to me, but now, I think that it is really fantastic, mainly "Humoreske Bagateller Op. 11", which is my favourite!

PAVEL BULAENKO

This year is special because we are all celebrating the anniversary of Carl Nielsen!

I really enjoy his music because it is both innovative, close to the 20th century music style, and it also retains all the most precious things of the romantic music: beautiful melody, interesting harmony, contra-sting character.

KIRILL KASHUNIN

Dear Carl,

I am looking forward to being a part of your birthday celebration this Opus festival. Danish music and especially yours are very close to Russian (North) culture.

On your birthday party I would love to play Bachs Partita no. 6 e minor, Brahms sonata for two pianos f minor with Irina Osipova and your Helios overture with Jakob Bahr.

I decided to play these pieces because I think they would make good presents for you.

Happy birthday, dear Carl.

JAKOB ALSGAARD BAHR

Dear Carl. What an anniversary you are having! Daily your music is heard throughout Denmark. Many of your songs and psalms show that you are greatly fascinated by the phenomenon of light. That is also the case in the Helios Overture that I will play in a four-hand version with Kirill Kashunin. Helios is the Greek Titan god who draws the sun across the sky in his chariot. The overture depicts the suns movement across the sky, from daybreak to evening's twilight.

I know that Mozart was a great role model for you. Therefore I will also play his Adagio in B minor. I will play it at the memorial concert for my dear teacher, Anne Øland, because I know that she loved this piece – just as she loved your music. These words, which you have written about Mozart and his music, could not have been written more beautifully:"He did not want anything new, it came by itself. He did not want something different than the others, but he could give and did give some more. He did not take away from what was, but added the many treasures he had found, half in dream, half in play. He did not tear down our houses and built palaces, which impressed us, but in which we froze. He gave us himself, his friendship, his spirit, his delicate feeling, his warm smile, his deep serious-ness and his cheerful, bright mind through his immortal melodies and his beautiful, rich art."

VARVARA BESSONOVA

I heartily congratulate all the music lovers with the upcoming festival Opus 15! This year it is special, because the festival is dedicated to the music of the famous Danish composer Carl Nielsen.

All of us will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of his birth! I am sure that the festival will give a lot of bright emotions and discoveries for each of us!

ESBEN LUND BRUMMER

Dear Carl Nielsen

Happy 150th birthday!

This Opus-festival we are celebrating you with our Russian friends.

When you began writing your 2nd symphony in 1901, your Russian colleague, Sergei Rachmaninoff, was finishing writing his 2nd piano concerto.

This piano concerto means a lot to me – it is my all-time favorite concerto and especially because I learned it from Anne Øland, who despite me doubting my ability to learn it, believed in me.

So in celebration of you and in memory of Anne, I will play the 1st movement from Rachmaninoff’s 2nd piano concerto with Anne’s Rus-sian colleague Irina Osipova.

IRINA OSSIPOVA

I am so happy that I was many times a participant of the OPUS festival. At the final day of the previous OPUS 14 it was decided to dedicate OPUS 15 to Carl Nielsen, the great Danish musician and composer, who had played a very important role in Danish and world culture.

For congratulating him with his birthday in 2015 I decided to perform together with Kirill Kashunin Sonata by Brahms for 2 pianos, because Carl Nielsen was much influenced by Brahms, so that even one of the creation periods of Carl Nielsen was called his "Brahms period".

But now, after the death of our beloved Anne Øland I think this festi-val through Carl Nielsen (one of Anne's favorite composers) will be devoted to Anne Øland too. We can't forget that Anne's will, energy and teacher activity has inspired this remarkable festival OPUS, which has already existed for 7 years.

Sonata for 2 pianos by Brahms - it is the same thing that big novels are about: humans life with different contrasting things in it: love and hate, life and death, happiness and destiny...

ANITA HYLDGÅRD SAMSING

Dear Carl,

I am so pleased to be a part of your birthday celebration. I have been listening to, playing, and singing your music and your melodies all my life, and I can't imagine what the world of music would have looked like without you.

I am looking forward to play "Chaconne" - a piece of music that has been very dear to me for a long time. It is like a human being's walk in life, through the most incredible landscapes.

CHARLOTTE SCHOU JENSEN

The greatest birthday wishes, Carl Nielsen!

I am very excited to have the opportunity to play some of Hans Abra-hamsens "Ten Studies" for you.

I am sure, it is music you would have loved to hear!

VITALIJA GURVICIUTE

Dear Carl,

Thank you for music that evokes a wide range of emotions. You have given us many beloved melodies, as well as composed more rustique textures and daring harmonies. To celebrate your anniversary I'll be playing two pieces.

The Lithuanian composer Remesa wrote “Stigmata”, a cycle of five miniatures, in 1987. It depicts Jesus suffering on the cross, death and ascension into heaven with a sense of enlightenment, clarity of mind and a heavenly state of beauty and calm in the end.

Shchedrin´s Basso Ostinato - an enthralling and energetic piece with a persistently repeating base motif was composed for the 1962 Tchaikovsky piano competition.

EMIL GRYESTEN JENSEN

Dear maestro Nielsen,

Happy anniversary, and very many sincere thanks for all the wonder-ful music you have given to us!

I am sure you would appreciate a performance of Chopin's Preludes, which are a magnificent journey through all of life's experiences expressed in music, through Heaven and Hell, and to the deepest corners of the human soul.

A true feast of music for a big birthday celebration!

ESKILD SKOVBAKKE WINDING

Dear Carl

I have been lucky enough to know someone, who knew you really well. She never met you in person, but I think you two had a special kinship. She was, like you, a great musician with an equally great personality - many composers owe you so much, just as we are many pianists who owe her a lot.

She taught me to listen to and play your music. And she taught me to love it, which is not always easy with your music, Carl!

As a small birthday gift, I will play a piece by one of your French peers. It is a very nice piece, Carl - I hope you like it, even though it is not you who wrote it.
