4TH KUALA LUMPUR INTERNATIONAL

CONFERENCE (kliac) 2013

The Asian Strategy & Leadership Institute

(ASLI) in collaboration with the Malaysian

Automotive Association (MAA) is proud to

organise the Kuala Lumpur International

Automotive Conference (KLIAC) 2013 from 12

to 14 November at PWTC in Kuala Lumpur. This

Conference is supported by Interexpo (M)

Sdn Bhd, the show manager of the Kuala

Lumpur International Motor Show 2013

(KLIMS13) which is the largest motor show in

Malaysia.

Malaysia’s National Automotive Policy (NAP)

is designed to support her ambitions to get on

par with other ASEAN economies stronger in

the automotive industry and to become the

regional hub for Energy Efficient Vehicles.

NAP is expected to do this by further

liberalising the industry to make Malaysia an

attractive hub for exporting to ASEAN.

Liberalisation should attract foreign direct

investments especially in areas requiring high

technical expertise to build up the country’s

technological base, as well as to foster

greater competition in a healthy environment

that will reduce domestic car prices.

Implementation of the ASEAN Free Trade

Agreement (FTA) since 2010 is a key enabler for

Malaysia’s NAP, but more importantly it is also

a key enabler for the ASEAN grouping to make

its mark on the automotive industry. Frost &

Sullivan estimates that ASEAN will become the

sixth biggest automotive market globally by

2018. Coupled with its strength as a

competitive automotive production base,

ASEAN is strategically positioned to build itself

into a global automotive hub.

This Conference provides a timely platform for

intellectually stimulating and constructive

exchange of views among role players and

delegates to further the growth of the

automotive industry in a sustainable manner

with balanced consideration of the interests of

all stakeholders. It is geared towards

addressing some of the major developments

and issues in the industry by bringing together

the experts and leading players to share and

discuss their inputs, and it also serves as the

perfect conduit to network and create new or

strengthen existing partnerships.
