HOT-WIRED TO THE FUTURE. OUR ASPIRATION. Tomorrow’s world will be quite different from today’s – and in all likelihood it will be better. Real-time

communication, eMobility, fully autonomous driving and renewable energies will change our habits, even revolutionise them.

These things also create a significant opportunity to live together more sustainably and more comfortably than ever. None of

these technogically advanced industries can get by without copper, or more precisely without wire, stranded wire and wire

rope. There can be no driver assistance systems without wires to carry signals, no energy turnaround without tinned solar

stranded wires, no smartphones or tablets without the conductivity of copper contacts and connections, and no expanding

power networks without flexible, optimal-cross-section conductors.

You could say that the 21st century will be copper-coloured – ‘El siglo de cobre’. Copper is fully recyclable, extremely durable, flexible, smart and innovative – provided, that is, you know how to make a very good material into an even better semi-finished product: a product with an outstanding surface and high conductivity, and a product made precisely for a specific purpose.

OUR EXPERTISE – YOUR GAIN. After all, bad cast-rolled wire can never become a good semi-finished product such as ultra-fine stranded wire rope. In principle we can produce endless wire from a thick-ness of 8.0 mm down to 0.05 mm, which is thinner than the diameter of a hair. In fact when it comes to precision, we like splitting hairs.

Our upstream Contirod® technology guarantees that every application receives exactly the right mate-rial. It’s set standards in the market. MKM sells semi-finished products at every level of finish. That allows our customers to conduct their own business flexibly and in their own way, thereby gaining a competitive edge.

DRAW FROM OUR EXPERTISE. WE DRAW WIRE.

KME’S PRODUCTION PROCESS IS FULLY INTEGRATED.

THAT WAY WE KEEP OUR PRODUCTION CYCLE CLOSED.

LAY DIRECTION The direction in which stranded wire and wire rope is twisted is indicated by the letters S and Z. Regardless of which side you look at it from, the direction is always the same: S = left twist, Z = right twist.

LAY LENGTHThe lay length is the length along the axis of a cable which an ele-ment of the wire needs to twist one whole time around that axis. It is defined either in mm or as a multiple of the diameter of the stranded wire.

STRANDED WIREWe supply bunched stranded wires and concentric stranded wire: soft annealed bare or tinned using pure tin in lay direction S or Z.

BUNCHED STRANDED WIRES Numerous strands or bundles of wires are bunched together. The strands within the wire do not have any particular order; their position in relation to one another changes constantly

along the length of the wire.

CONCENTRIC STRANDED WIREThe strands of concentrically structured stranded wire have a pre-cisely defined position around the core of the wire. That ensures an absolutely regular structure.

For concentric stranded wire with more than seven strands we different between four different types in terms of lay length:

Unilay: True concentric:

S Z concentric stranded wire 7-strand

concentric stranded wire 19-strand

concentric stranded wire 37-strand

Unilay concentric:same lay direction

Unidirectional concentric:same lay directiondifferent lay length

WIRE ROPE AND STRANDED WIRE ROPE

WIRE ROPE:Wire rope is either flexible or rigid. It is available bare or tinned (us-ing pure tin), wound in lay direction S or Z, sealed or unsealed, soft or hard.

STRUCTURES:7-strand = 1 + 619-strand = 1 + 6 + 1237-strand = 1 + 6 + 12 + 1861-strand = 1 + 6 + 12 + 18 + 24

STRANDED WIRE ROPE:This is wire rope with a symmetrical structure consisting of and wound using pre-stranded wires. The following variations of this type of stranding are available.

EQUAL LAY ROPE:The lay direction of the pre-stranded wire and the rope itself are the same. The diameter of wire ropes made this way is smaller than re-verse lay and ordinary lay ropes.

REVERSE LAY ROPE:The lay direction of the pre-stranded wires is the same as their posi-tion and it and changes from layer to layer.

CROSS LAY ROPE:The lay direction of the pre-stranded wires is counter to their posi-tion and changes from layer to layer.

Lay directions can also oppose, e.g. Equal lay rope in Z throughout.
