C H A P L A I N ’ S C O R N E R Dear Brother Knights,
On November 1st, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of
All Saints. By virtue of our baptism, we are all called to a
life of holiness. All of us are called to be “saints.” We are
counted among the Communion of Saints which
comprises the three parts of the Church: the Church
Militant (the baptized faithful on Earth), the Church
Suffering (the faithful, suffering in Purgatory), and the
Church Triumphant (the Saints in Heaven).
November 2nd
is the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (or:
All Souls’ Day) as we pray for all of our loved ones who have passed away,
who have gone to their rest in the peace of Christ. We never really forget
those who have been a part of us and have played a significant role in our
lives. The Church offers us All Souls’ Day as a wonderful opportunity to
pray for those who have died and are still in need of God’s mercy and love.
In a special way during this month of November I wish to remember in
prayer all of our deceased Brother Knights and the members of their
families who have passed away. May they rest in peace!
I conclude with the traditional Catholic prayer for our beloved dead:
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine
upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy
of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
In Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Fr. Jim Presta

P A R I S H R O UN D T A B L E R E P O R T S St. Cecilia — Feast of St Cecilia
St Cecilia Parish will celebrate the feast of its Patroness, St Cecilia, on Sunday, November 17, at the 10:30
AM and 12 NOON masses, with hospitality following at 2 pm in the Parish Center.
Saint Cecilia is the patroness of musicians. It is written that as the musicians played at her wedding she
"sang in her heart to the Lord". Her feast day is celebrated in the Latin Catholic, Eastern Catholic and Eastern
Orthodox churches and in the Anglican Communion on November 22.
St. Emily de Rodat — I.D. Fund Drive – Celebrating 50+ Years Married – Bishop Rojas Visit On September 27/28, sixteen Brother knights, two wives, two daughters, and two boy scouts answered
the call to collect after one or more of our five weekend masses. We had sufficient numbers to cover all
six doors, with one mass having two collectors at each entrance. Many thanks, along with a certificate of
appreciation presented at the Oct meeting, go to Bob Gniech, Jim Chengary, Joe Corrigan, Erick Tafel,
Ralph John, Jack Hadfield, Dennis Gawlik, Dan DeGregorio, Sy Beck, Ed Janak, Pat Broderick, Don
Hand, Bob Fitzgerald, Steve Abbott, wives Joan Gniech and Jane Gawlik, daughters Tara and Ariana
Folino, and Scouts Anthony Zicarelli and Kyle Conway. We collected $2,762.17, which is our second best collection
over the past ten years.
Fr. Presta had a special Mass and luncheon Oct 29 at the 11:30 AM for 27 couples married 50-60-70 yrs., totally1500
plus years. Many Knights were included in the group. Thank you Fr. Jim and the people that put it together.
Auxiliary Bishop Alberto Rojas, Episcopal Vicar of Vicariate I, will celebrate the 8:30 AM Mass at St Emily on All
Saints Day, November 1. Afterwards, he will tour the school.
St. Raymond De Peñafort — Finding God in Popular Music: Hear Our Cry Come join us as we find inspiration and hope in the popular music of yesterday and today on Sunday,
November 10 at 7 PM in St Raymond Church. The evening will feature a live band and singers, along
with reflections on songs by Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, Sam Smith, Carrie Underwood, Bruce
Springsteen, Lauren Dangle, and Stevens…and more. Admission is free.
F A I T H I N A C T I O N Faith — Mass of Remembrance
Our annual Mass of Remembrance for our deceased Brother Knights is Monday, November 11, 2019
at St Raymond De Peñafort Church, at 7 PM. An informal, brief meeting and social will follow in the
Parish Community Room. SK Rob Glowacki has accepted chairing and planning this activity.
Faith — Priesthood Sunday Priesthood Sunday is a special day set aside to honor our parish priests in the United States. It is a
day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Church. The number of priests
and ordinations in the United States has steadily declined in the past 50 years. The men who answer the
call to priesthood are special indeed, and they are working harder than ever before.
The Knights of St Cecilia and St Thomas Becket Parishes celebrated Priesthood Sunday on Oct
26/27, while St Emily Parish will celebrate Priesthood Sunday on November 9/10. The Council
recognized our parish priests at the Mass with a short presentation, a blessing, a certificate of
appreciation, and a $25 check.
Faith — RSVP: Seminarian Raffle There are 122 active registered Knights in Mt Prospect Council 6481 but less than 25% of these
members have returned their booklets. The Seminarian Raffle from Illinois KofC Charities is one of
two activities our Council uses to raise funds to support our Seminarians, the Christmas pin and car
magnet sales being the other. Last year we sponsored two seminarians; this year we might only have
enough to sponsor one.
Please return your raffle book(s), with the cover and check to arrive at my address, before
11/23/2019: Dan DeGregorio, 34 E. Judith Ann Dr., Mt Prospect, IL 60056. Extra raffle booklets
will be available at our next meeting, our November 11 Mass of Remembrance at St Raymond.
The booklets will be sent to the State Council on Saturday morning, November 23.
Fami l y — Food for Families St Emily Knights have made four deliveries of food to St Alphonsus Food Pantry totaling
over 1,300 pounds. This qualifies us for participation in the Food for Families program, a
priority program for Faith in Action.
Famil y — Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest To combat a society where Christmas has become for many children a secular holiday, the Knights
of Columbus several years ago introduced the Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest. This initiative
allows our young people to engage their creative talents and imaginations and encourages them to shift
from a preoccupation with materialism to the light of Christ and the spirit of giving, while
understanding the true, spiritual meaning of Christmas.
Our Christian Schools and Relgious Education programs will be contacted during early November
inviting them to participate in the Knights of Columbus Keep Cjrist in Christmas Poster Contest that we conduct.
Juding of posters will occur after our December 9 business/social meeting at St Cecilia.
Community — Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest We had one Catholic school, St Emily, participate in the Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest.
According the St Emily’s eighth grade religion teacher, this year’s theme proved very challenging by
getting the students to reflect on their faith in action while preparing for Confirmation.
Thank you our judges of the 30 essays that were submitted: Teachers Regina Kinasz and Jane
Gawlik, and Brother Knights Ed Janak, Rob Glowacki, Nick Tasone, Jim Nash, Wally Szymczak,
Dennis Gawlik, and Al McGarrity.
This year’s Council winners are: 1st
Place – Carmella Martinez, 2nd
Place – Ava Lee, and 3rd
Place – Mikalela
Shrake. Their essays now advance to District/Region (Archdiocese) level for judging.
