Kelley “K. Nikki” Franklin is a 25 year old Brooklyn born and raised new face to the entertainment and arts scene who wishes to start a media empire and leave an extraordinary legacy. Growing up, Kelley always kept busy and worked toward leadership roles, whether through student government, drama club, choir, or the Jackie Robinson Steppers of Brooklyn, where she eventually became Drum Major.“I just wanted to keep busy because I was an only child and wanted to find my niche. Plus I just loved to entertain and work on making other people’s lives better or just make them smile.”

Her brief time in college and what followed after brought some hard times and major doubts. Being unemployed, heart broken with no clear future and all passions stripped from her, Kelley fell into a deep depression.

“For about two years, I questioned who I was. What will make me happy? What am I going to do? It was a really dark time. I was numb and had no direction. But I don’t know, one day I picked myself up and said ‘iight, I can’t be in this darkness anymore. This unhappiness hurts, daily. There HAS to be something better. Then 2013 happened.”

In January 2013, K. Nikki began hosting a showcase at an underground clothing store called "Ground Under R.S.V.P.". Starting out in the thriving NY underground scene, she found that helping others reach success and providing platforms was her passion.

“Through researching and finding out what was going on in NYC, I began to feel more at home. Directing people to the right outlets, being able to host and introduce ‘the next big person’, shedding light on so many amazing talents. I wanted to be a vessel for success. I saw so many who deserved it.”

Since then, with continued self education and networking, K. Nikki has been invited to host showcases, conduct interviews of up and coming artists, create performance opportunities, book talent for shows in NYC, and launch a budding music blog called ILSKN.com. But there was still more she wanted to accomplish: something greater. As her network expanded and different fields were opening to her, she found out about the world of public relations and with her thirst for knowledge, she began to study.

“PR reps on TV are usually depicted as having this fabulous life, rubbing elbows with the rich and famous, but I’m not one to believe everything I see on TV. So, I’d ask some of the people I met what exactly do they do. The more I learned, the more I wanted to pursue it and because I didn’t have enough money to go back to school, I found some free and low cost methods to teach me the basics. I renewed my library card and was in there everyday reading books on public relations. They were offering a free 6 months, online educational platform with TONS of subjects. Thankfully, marketing and PR were listed.”

As she was studying and offering advice to those around her while practicing her skills with some of her friends who were entrepreneurs, she gained the experience to go with the knowledge. Presenting her work as a blogger with clippings of her publicist portfolio landed her an opportunity to work with KRS One's The Temple of Hip Hop NYC and The Universal Hip Hop Museum as a media specialist and public relations rep. But in the end, Kelley still strives for more and continues to walk through the open doors of her career path.
