KNIVETON PARISH COUNCIL

The meeting of Kniveton Parish Council took place on Tuesday 18th November 2014 and the following items were discussed:-

DOG FOULING – This continues to be a problem and a highly emotive issue. The Parish Field has now been identified for inclusion in the Anti Social Behaviour Act 2014 which means that dogs must be kept on lead at all times when using the footpath through the area. The ‘Dogs on Leads Order’ is designed to keep dogs under closer control on leads in specified areas and to discourage persons allowing dogs to stray and foul in these locations. Councillors are also applying for the two play areas to be designated as part of DDDC Exclusion of Dogs Order. Councillors would also draw your attention to signage in the village regarding ‘dog fouling’, namely that it is illegal to leave dog faeces lying around in a public area. Failing to clear up after your dog is an offence which could result in a maximum fine of £1000 in a magistrate’s court. If local residents are affected by dog fouling either outside or on their property, councillors would encourage them to contact the local police. Finally, councillors would want to stress that whilst the few who continue to allow their dogs to foul in public places without clearing up afterwards are a cause for concern, the vast majority of dog owners in Kniveton behave in a responsible manner. Highways – A noisy manhole cover opposite the church gates has been found to be the responsibility of Severn Trent. An attempt at repair has been made resulting in making the hazard worse. A pothole close Hillocks Farm was reported. The Clerk will follow up these two items. Winter Weather Precautions – Cllr Bradbury reported that local grit bins had been filled. As in previous years, a local farmer will be alerted to clear some minor lanes should we experience heavy falls of snow this winter.

Footpaths – Reported that with recent heavy rain Washpool is filling up with some overflowing onto the track.

Correspondence – The Clerk drew councillors’ attention to:

a. Local councillor elections will take place in May 2015.

b. The District Council needs to find additional land for housing and other uses over the next fifteen to twenty years. If anyone knows of land where development could take place, they are invited to contact DDDC.

c. On 22nd June next year there is to be a vintage cycle ride round the Peak District which will pass through the village of Kniveton. Entitled, ‘L’Eroica Britannia, the or- ganisers are encouraging those on the route to ‘enter into the spirit’ of the event. Look out for posters.

d. Council to investigate the funding and placing of a defibrillator and cabinet in the village.

Finance – Payments and balances to 18th November presented and approved by the meeting.

My family and I are taking part in a run around Derby dressed as Santa Clause on the 7th December 2014. It is a derby hospital charity event that has been arranged by them. Our family are running it to raise money for the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). I have four boys 10,7,5 and 1 and our youngest Zakari was born full term but unable to manage to breath for himself. He was in the unit himself for two weeks and there were many touch and go days.... without this amazing unit, staff and all the equipment he wouldn't be with us today. Myself, his dad and brothers are so grateful to the unit we would like to continue to raise money to help the unit to buy more equipment and aid the amazing staff in helping many more families. During the event the boys including Zakari (in a blinged up pushchair) will all run to help the unit. Myself and his father will be doing the adults run. We are a local family and live at 17 the Hallsteads, Kniveton. Zakari's family and myself did a jumble sale last year and raised around £2500 this is not a scratch on how much just the incubator alone costs. Watch this space there is plenty more fundraising from this family. We can’t ever do enough to show our appreciation for our little boy’s life, no amount will be enough.... but every single donation counts. Please help us raise money and gain some sponsors. Un-Seasonal Greetings To You All

Climate change and global warming, is there truth in these reports,

Santa seems to think so, he’s in a T-shirt and his shorts!

He’s cast his furry suit and boots aside, as he flies across the rooftops –

He’ll be coming down your chimney in his sunhat and his flip-flops!

Don’t forget to thank him, when he leaves you all a present,

An ice-cold drink for Santa, and for Rudolph fly repellent!

His sleigh’s got air-conditioning, with a cool box in the back,

So all the chocolate money doesn’t melt inside his sack!

He’s fitted rubber runners, the reindeers feet are wrapped in flannel,

So when he lands on some folk’s roof, he doesn’t smash their solar pan-els.

It’s going to be the warmest Christmas ever, but you and I just know,

When Santa sets off from Lapland – it’ll be ten degrees below!

Thanks to Ian Stafford (The Bard of Kniveton!)

Dicky & Sue’s Do

From all those that attended Sue and Dick Marsh’s Macmillan Cancer afternoon/ evening. We would like to say a big thank you for the good company, food and drink. The coffee having been squirreled away, somewhere being replaced by various coloured bottles.Having been relieved of varying amounts of cash, most weaved their way home in the dark, somewhat happier than when they arrived. Good job done Sue and Dicky,

Let’s do it again sometime. The Wibbleys

BAND CONCERT. 7.00pm

SUNDAY 7TH DECEMBER

St Michaels Church, KNIVETON.

Ashbourne Town Band are making their annual visit to Kniveton on Sunday 7th December. Please come and support them. There will be mince pies in the interval and we expect the usual high standard performance from the band.

There is no admission charge, so bring along as many friends as you can and enjoy this concert. However, the Derbyshire Dales District Council have withdrawn their funding for Band concerts altogether this year , and the PCC are therefore bearing the full cost of the Band fee , so generous donations in the retiring collection would be very much appreciated.

Kniveton Women’s Institute has enjoyed an extremely busy and successful year. We’ve had various speakers and workshops, which have already been reported in the newsletter. At our October meeting we made ourselves a glass dish or coaster being instructed by Angela from Glass@Barn. (see photo)

Many members have enjoyed needlecraft workshops. One workshop was led by Jenny Adin– Christie who trained at the Royal School of Needlework. We have visited places looking ‘behind the scenes’ at Derby Cathedral and Repton. Alstonfield Costume Museum where we had a cream tea before the tour of the museum.

It is the 100 years celebrations next year of the W.I organization. There is a baton being relayed around the country eventually arriving at the Annual Meeting of the National Women’s Institute at the Albert Hall in London. The baton reached Tissington in June when some of our members went to celebrate this occasion.

At the Dovedale Group meetings (this is the Ashbourne area of W.Is) we had a Jazz evening at Clifton and a talk about the Bluebell Ice-cream company. This is a local business, which has really flourished. Needless to say, we enjoyed the tasting session, which followed.

Being a W.I member, if you choose to do so, there are so many opportunities to take advantage of besides our monthly meetings. We have our own college at Denman, which is situated just outside Oxford. There are residential courses of all descriptions.

We are preparing our next year’s programme, which is looking interesting. This will be published in the next newsletter. If you would like to join us, just turn up at our meeting in January and you will be made most welcome.

What we have been up to at Kniveton School!

The children in Class 2 and Class 3 have been exploring the idea of what God means to them. Here are some of their thoughts. Mrs Gorman

god is our shepherd and we are his sheep he loves you no matter what whenever you feel sad he cheers you up. god is sensitive if you don’t watch what you say you will hurt him. god is a marvellous creator, without him we are darkness but with him we are light. god can look extremely different to everyone but he’s exactly the same it’s just we can’t see that but god is everywhere we can’t see him but he can see us, he gives many people attention and courage. God is invisible he is amazingly good not evil, never give up on him because he never gives up on you even if you think god is not real how would we live. If we lived be nice to god because he made us. Kieran bonsall

God is in our heart to make us joyful and happy. God is our light to follow to our home if we are lost. God guides us with his heart and soul. God forgives us no matter what we do. God is our home, light and he gave us life. God gave us knowledge to help others. God is not always seen but we can all hear him and feel him. God is the one who cheers us up if we feel upset or sad. No matter where we are he will always protect us. God is always our friend. God is our real parent who looks after us. Say prayers to God, he will appreciate it! Shannon Roberts

God, the author of our future, helps us through good and bad, leads us through the bleakness of our mind; he teaches us how to live our lives and brings the goodness out of every one– he helps when you are stuck walking through a deserted desert nonchalantly .He finds potential in everyone. God to me, is a glistening, selfless kind figure that takes center stage in my heart with his sparkling, gold halo! Beautiful! God to me is in many forms like: Buddha and Allah-lots of people worship these gods like Muslims. He gives people a sense of belonging and courage and loves you no matter what and gives my soul life! When God wants to talk – the clouds open in bewilderment and amazement. No one can see him he just whispers into your ear when needed and controls what you do and is special in many different ways to everyone. I THINK GOD IS WONDERFUL! By Lucie Crellin

God is an affable man, he cherishes every second, he loves every being-whether it’s an ant, sheep or woman; it doesn’t matter to him how you look on the outside, but he cares whether you are beautiful on the inside. He guides us through the darkness when there appears to be no light-he listens… God always finds a way, even when it is difficult, he will always find a way. God watches us, he watches our success and our failures, but if we pray-if we apologise- we will be forgiven. God is extremely merciful and forgives, but he doesn’t forget; he can’t be bribed and he loves to love. He is selfless and only cares for other people. If you are lonely God will al-ways listen to your every word that happens to tumble out of your dry, crumbling lips; he provides hope and courage to carry on. We carry on through the solitary desert-we follow his huge footprints that lead us in the right direction. Everything he touches blossoms with the most amazing colours; red, yel-low, sea blues and grass greens- they all sprang into this, once desolate, world. He is the author of our future and packs our lives full of events, whether it’s exciting, scary, sicken-ing, painful or wonderful. Wonderful. As God’s great, booming voice echoes into the atmosphere; the hills and val-leys sing for joy. Joyfully, God helps the needy and cares for everyone. God is awe inspiring. God is a great man and I think he is AMAZING. By Jasmine Heras

God is helping a lot of people around the world and he is helping you and the hurt people. God can make the hurt better and better. George Foxlow God is kind to people all of the time. I think God is helpful all of the time. God is loving and thoughtful. I think God made the world. God is a good person all of the time. I think God made the sea. Who made God though? Callum Sutton God is an angel who watches over us and when he sees someone who is being bullied, he helps them with their problems. When God was mak-ing the world one of his very powerful angels disagreed with what god said and God banished him to hell and he became the devil. These are things I think are true about God: he created the uni-verse, he is always there and he lives in the clouds. Lucas Bright

12

God is our Shepherd and we are his sheep – he gives us hope and guides us through each day. God sprinkles peace and love over his world so that everyone is reached. God is incredible – he created the world; he built it with friendship and hope. God helps us through the hardest parts of the day. I think God is everything: paper, pencils, chairs and ta-bles. That is how he hears our prayers and answers them – that is how he hears our thoughts…

By Alex Radlett.

God is every one and every one thing. God is our guide. God is always with us. God is with us all the time. Harry Tinkler

I think God is king. I think God is loving. I think God is magical. I think God is amazing. I think God never dies. I think that God holds the world in his hands. I think God helps us. God is kind. Zoe Sawford

Kniveton Methodist Chapel After the sights and smells of fruit, flowers and other goods at our harvest festival in October, as I write this article we are looking forward to our annual shoe box service in the Village Hall (Nov. 23rd), and also the Christmas candlelight service on 21st December. Re the harvest service, we were helped by children (and staff) from the school, who had most cleverly written, and read, harvest poems. We love to welcome the children and are looking forward to their contribution to the carol service on 21st December. The auction of goods on the following evening was great fun, and over £500 was raised. This has been distributed to various local and national charities as usual. We commissioned a lectern from James Howe to match our new communion table, and this is now in use. Some of you may know that each year Methodists renew their commitment to God in a Covenant service at the beginning of January. This is a special and very meaningful form of worship and will take place on 11th January at 11 pm. If you would like to join us to re-affirm your faith please join us. The service will be led by our Minister, Rev. Tim Morris. We hope you all have a very happy and meaningful Christmas, and hope that 2015 brings you many blessings. Kniveton Chapel Stewards

Operation Christmas Child – Shoe Box Service. (Sunday 23rd November in the Village Hall – 11 am)

Although this service will have taken place by the time you read this I felt it was worth mentioning, as many of you have expressed an interest, and the next issue in February seems a long way ahead! The children of Swaziland will receive our gifts this year, a new venue for us, and by the time this issue is out the boxes will be on their journey to Africa, possibly by plane. There is much poverty and deprivation in that country, as it has been greatly affected by HIV/AIDS. It is estimated that there are approximately 100,000 orphans as a result, with older children having to care for their younger siblings as there is no parent. This, of course, badly affects their schooling. The gift of the toys and other items will provide much needed joy and excitement. Our collection on that day will be used to provide funds for transporting the boxes. Many thanks to those of you who have provided boxes. I will report next month on the Ashbourne and district results. The accompanying picture gives you an idea of what the boxes look like, and shows samples of the contents of a typical box. Betty Hadley, Ashbourne District Representative. 01335 300699.
