Chapter1

ThePrayerSecretofPrayingAccordingtoGod'sWord

JesusisourMediator,Intercessor,Advocate,andourLord.

HestandsbetweenusandtheFather.InnoplaceintheBibleisit recorded that Jesus toldHis disciples to pray toHim. TheywerealwaystopraytotheFatherinHisName.

If we wish to be sure of reaching the throne, we must comeaccordingtotheruleslaiddownintheWordofGod.

JOHN16:23,24

23Andinthatdayyeshallaskmenothing.Verily,verily,Isay unto you,Whatsoever ye shall ask theFather inmyname,hewillgiveityou.

24Hithertohaveyeaskednothinginmyname:ask,andyeshallreceive,thatyourjoymaybefull.

NoticethatJesussaid,"...inthatdayyeshallaskmenothing."JesussaidthisjustbeforeHewentaway.HewastalkingaboutthemediatorialsessionattherighthandoftheFatherwhenHeascended and was seated. Another translation reads, "In thatdayyeshallnotpraytome."JesussaidtoasktheFatherinHisName.Thereisnootherwaytopray.

Wecantell Jesushowmuchwe loveHimandappreciateHim,but when it comes to praying and asking, we must ask theFather through the Lord Jesus. Ephesians 3:14,15 says, "Forthiscause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord JesusChrist,Ofwhomthewholefamilyinheavenandearthisnamed." It is not important what church you belong to, but it isimportantwhosefamilyyoubelongto.

ManypeopleknowaboutprayingtoGod,buttheyknownothingaboutprayingto theFather.Theydon'tsoundas if theyreallyknowHim.HeisGodtotheworld,butFathertome.

There is real joy in knowing that the Father will answerourprayers.

Smith Wigglesworth was installing some plumbing in a largehouse one day and the lady of the family came in, watchedawhile, and then left. Finally, the woman came back into theroomandlockedthedoor.SheaskedWigglesworthifhewouldtell her something. She asked, "What in the world is it thatcauses thatwonderful expression on your face?You look as ifyou are full of joy." He then told her that at breakfast thatmorning,hiswifehadcomedownstairsand informedhimthattwooftheirchildrenwereveryill.Hesaidthatbeforetheyevenate, theywentupstairs, laidhandson theirchildren,and theywereinstantlyhealed.Wigglesworthwasjustsohappybecausehehadaskedandhadreceived.Hisjoywasfull.

The lady thenaskedWigglesworth if she couldknowGod likethat.Standingrightthere,sheacceptedtheLordasherSavior.ShethenaskedWigglesworthifshecouldkeepthisexperience,andhetoldherthattheonlywaytokeepitwastogiveitaway.Hetoldhertotellallherfriendsaboutbeingsaved.

Yousee,Wigglesworthwouldhavelookedworriedandsadifhischildren had still been ill. Instead, he had joy on his face. IbelieveitoughttobethatwaywithallChristians."...ask,andye shall receive, that your joy may be full" (John 16:24). Youhavetomaintainthatjoyevenbeforethemanifestationcomes.

Another time Wigglesworth was facing desperate financialneed.Hewas visiting in the home of a verywealthyman butsaidnothingabouthisproblem.HehadcasteverycareontheLordandwaswhistlingandveryhappy.TherichmanwasnotingoodspiritsandhetoldWigglesworththathewouldgiveallheownedtohavethespiritthatWigglesworthhad.Wigglesworthtoldhimthatitwouldn'tcosthimanything;allhehadtodowascastallofhiscaresonJesus.

Someyearsago,Iwaspreachinginachurchclosetohome.

After I had been there about aweek, the pastor askedme tostayonandpreachlonger.HeaskedmewhatsalaryIneeded.Itoldhim,andherepliedthatthatwasmorethanhischurchhadever paid an evangelist, but that they would give me thatamount.Wethenagreedthatmyneedswouldbesupplied.OnSaturday,beforetheserviceonSundaynight,Iwenthomeandwhile I was there, I discovered that some emergencies hadarisenandIneededseveralhundreddollarsmore.IknewwhenI went back to preach on Sunday that the pastor would bedismayed.Ihadalreadyobligatedmyselftostaywithhimforacoupleofweeks;therefore,allIcoulddowaspraythattheLordwouldworkouteverything.

When I returned to themeeting, Ididnot sayanything to thepastor.Hetoldmelaterthattheyhadnotmetthebudgetandthat they did not have enough to pay the minimum he hadpromisedme.ThenItoldhimtheamountIwouldneedtohaveinorder tomeetmyemergencies.About that timehebecameupset.ItoldhimIwouldbelieveforit,andhecouldagreewithme.

Later on, hiswife toldme that she noticed that this financialtroubleneverbotheredmeabitandthatIseemedtobejustasfullofjoyasever.Whenthemeetingwasover,Ihadthemoney!

PraiseGod!Yousee,theneedwasthere,andGodmettheneed.

HegavemeevenmorethanIneededbecauseIhadwalkedbyfaithandnotbysight.

Ephesians5:20says,"Giving thanksalways forall thingsuntoGodandtheFatherinthenameofourLordJesusChrist."

PaulistellingusthatitistotheFatherandnottoJesusthatwegivethanks.TheNameofJesusistheaccesstotheheartoftheFather.Whenyoudesiretogetananswer,followtheteachingsoftheWord.PraytotheFatherintheNameofJesus.

Ifyougotothebankwithacheckandaskthecashiertocashthatcheckforafriend,youwillbeaskedifyouhavemoneyondeposittoguaranteeit.However,ifthatcheckhasthenameofapersonwhohasanaccountatthatparticularbank,therewillbe no questions asked. We fail in our praying sometimesbecause our approach is all wrong. Thank God, Jesus has astandinginheaven.He is theonlyapproachto theFather.LetususethemightyNameofJesusthatHehasgivenus.Hegaveus thepowerofattorney touseHisName.Hesaid, "... In myname shall they [believers] cast out devils" (Mark 16:17). Wehave a right to use thatName against the devil.Wehave therighttousethatNametocalloutdemonsthatbindmen'ssouls.

SeveralyearsagoIwasholdingameetingineastTexas,andwewere studying the subject of prayer. In those meetings, twothings took place that changed thewhole course ofmy life. Ihad always believed in divine healing, but there were somecases of which I was afraid. In particular, these were mentalcasesorcasesofdemonpossession.ThentheLordbroughtthiscomparisontome.Itwasasifapersonweregoingtohiscartounlock the door.He could say thathe had unlocked the door,butreallyhedidn'tunlockit,becausethekeyactuallydoestheunlocking.Whenhestartsthecar,akeyreallydoesthework.Akey starts the ignition. The key is the important factor in thewholesituation.

Ibegantolookatitfromthisstandpoint:Iamnotgoingtocast

outanydevils.ButJesusgavemethekeytodoit.Jesusisthekeytodoingit.Myfearofcastingoutdevilsceased.

Secondly, as I lay onmy bed and studied theWord of God, Ibegantoseesomethingelse.LetmeencourageyoutofollowupontheWordafteryoureaditandmeditateuponit.Ourspiritsneed to be educated and trained. Just because you read theWordofGod isnosignthatyourspirit iseducated. Icouldsitdownandreadagreatdealofscientificmaterial,butthatisnosignIknowwhatIamreading.YoucanreadtheBibleandnotunderstandwhatyouarereading.God'sWordhastogetdowninsideofyouuntilyougettherevelationofitinyourheart.

Years ago, I read Einstein's theory of relativity and did notunderstandathingIwasreading.WhenIfinished,IknewlessthanwhenIhadstarted.Itconfusedme.

I think many times when people read the Word, they donotknowwhattheyarereading.Theyaretryingtograspitwiththeirmentality.YoumustgettherevelationoftheWordinyourheart.

As I lay reading, I began tomeditate on the Scriptures I hadread.IbegantoseesomethingthatIhadneverseenbefore.Isawthatthedevilistheauthorofallthatisevilandthatheisthegodofthisworld.Satanhasblindedandboundmen.

Ibegantoseethatthoseofmyownfamilywhowereunsavedwereboundbythedevil.Nomanwoulddrivehisautomobileahundredmilesanhourandtry tokillhimself ifhewere inhisrightmind.Butafellowwhoisdopedanddrunkwill,becausehedoesnotknowwhatheisdoing.Nointelligentpersonwillgothrough lifewheeling anddealing andheading towardshell ifhe is in his rightmind. For example, theBible sayswhen theprodigalsonwenthome,“...hecametohimself”(Luke15:17).

IreceivedsucharevelationofthisthatIwaschallenged.Ihadbeenprayingformyoldestbrotherwhohadgoneastray.ButIdiscoveredthatallofmyprayingandfastinghadbeendoneinunbelief.(Ifyou'reexpectingjustprayertodoit,itwon'twork.

ThiswasrevealedtomeasIlaythere.)

IroseupwithmyBibleandsaid,"IntheNameoftheLordJesusChrist,youfouldevilanddemonofhell,andspiritsthatbindmybrother'ssoul,Ibindyou,intheNameoftheLordJesusChrist."Iwas fullof joy, for Iknewthat itwas justasgoodasdone. Ilaid my Bible down and went out of the room whistling andsinging.

About two weeks later as I was walking into my bedroom, Iheardavoicesaytome,"Oh,youdon'tthinkhe'llreallyeverbe

saved, do you?" I stopped dead still, shutting that out of mymindandnotevenlettingmyselfthinkaboutit.Butwaydowninside, I was laughing. I told the devil that I had claimed hissalvation, and that I knew it would come to pass. Two daysafterwards at the very spot it had happened before, I heardthat same voice again, asking the same question. Again Istoppedandshut itoutofmymind. I told thedevil that Ihadclaimedmy brother's salvation and had brokenSatan's poweroverhim.

Afewdayslater,Ireceivedaletterfrommywifewhichstatedthatmybrotherhadbeensaved.IwrotebackandtoldherthatIhadknownitfortwoorthreeweeks.

TheNameofJesusbelongstoyoutoo.ThatNamehasauthorityon earth. You have a right to use thatName. If the devil canholdyouinthethoughtarena,hewillwhipyou.Ifyouholdhimin the arena of faith, he is the victim. Fight the good fight offaith.Petersaid,"...youradversarythedevil,asaroaring lion,walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resiststedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions areaccomplished in yourbrethren that are in theworld" (1Peter5:8,9).Youhavetobelieveinyourheart,yourspirit,thatwhattheWordsaysistrue.

Yousee,thedevilfoughtmetwice.Hetriedtogetmeintothethought realm: "Youdon't think that yourbrotherwill everbesaved,doyou?"Thatiswhathekeptsayingtome.Andthatisexactlywheremanypeopletrytosolvetheirspiritualproblems—with their minds. Then, they get all confused; they areworriedsick,andhavefrownsontheirfaces.

But you need to act from your innermost being—from yourheart—your spirit. Jesus said, "...whosoever shall say ... andshallnotdoubtinhisheart,butshallbelievethatthosethingswhichhesaithshallcometopass;heshallhavewhatsoeverhesaith"(Mark11:23).

Iwaspreaching that sameyear inPortArthur,Texas,and theservicesweregood,andthereweremanyhealings.AMethodistwomancameto themeetings,andthankedme for the lessonswe had been having. She toldme that she had been sick fortwentyyearsandhadnotbeenabletodoherwork.Shecouldnotevengetupandfixbreakfast forherhusband.Shewas inherfortiesandhadtwogrowndaughters.Thedoctorshadnotbeen able to help her. She had been to different healingmeetings, but had failed to receive her healing. But in mymeetings, she said that I had taught her how to receive herhealing.

SometimelaterIreceivedaletterfromthissamewomanwith

anofferingenclosed,forshesaidthatshewantedtohaveapartinhelpingsomeoneelseasshehadbeenhelped.ShesaidthatshehadnotknowntheimportanceoftheWordofGodandtheNameofJesus.Intheprivacyofherownhomeshehadlookedup the Scriptures, raised herBible and said, "Satan, youwhohave bound my body for all these years, I break your powerover my life and claim my deliverance and my healing." Sheaddedthatforthefirsttimeintwentyyearsshewasdoingallofherownhousework.Sixmonthshadpassed,and shewas stillhealed. She said that she had the vigor and vitality of ateenager, and that she had not felt so good since she wassixteen.

Thenshetoldmeaboutherhusbandwhohadneverbeensaved.Hewould not go to churchwith her, although hewas a goodhusband.ThiswomantooktheBibleandinherownhomeshesaid,"IntheNameofJesusIbreakthepowerofthedevilovermy husband and claim his salvation." She said that itworkedlikemagic.Overnight,hebecameanewcreature.Shesaidthattheywerethehappiesttheyhadeverbeenintheirlifetime.

Shetoldaboutherdaughterswhosmokedanddanced.Shesaidthatsheliftedherhandstoheavenagainandbrokethedevil'spoweroverthem,claimingtheirsalvation.Withintendays,theybecame new creatures. Theywere delivered from every habitthathadboundthem,andheavenbecametheirhome.

Whenwewill learn topray in linewithwhat theWordofGodsays,ourprayerswillbeeffective!

Chapter2

ThePrayerSecretofAskingTheFatherinJesus'Name

Andinthatdayyeshallaskmenothing.Verily,verily,Isayuntoyou, Whatsoever ye shall ask theFather in my name, he willgive it you. Hithertohave ye asked nothing in my name: ask,andyeshallreceive,thatyourjoymaybefull

—John16:23,24

Jesus said this just before He went to the Cross. He wasreferring to the day in which we now live—the day when HewenttotheCross,andthedaywhenHeascendeduponHighandwasseatedattherighthandof theFather.He isnowourMediator, our Intercessor, our Advocate, and our Lord. HestandsbetweentheFatherandus.WhenHesays,"Inthatday,"

HemeansthedayoftheNewCovenant.

WhenJesuswashereontheearth,thedisciplescouldaskHim:theycouldtalktoHimpersonallyintheflesh.

Aministerfriendofminenevergetsanswerswhenheprays.

Prayer is a struggle for him.He prays to Jesus. I pray to theFatherintheNameofJesus.I'veprayedthiswayformorethan50years,andI'vegotteneverythingI'veaskedfor.Iusuallygetit immediately. However, in the case of money it sometimestakes a few days because it has to come in through variouschannels.

If this friendofminewere toaskme topray forhis finances,thenheandIwouldhavetoagreeonit.Buthiswillcouldblockmywill and faith, forwehaveauthorityoverdemonsandevilspirits, but we don't have authority over human spirits. If wehad authority over human spirits, then we could makeeverybodygetsaved.

In John G. Lake's book, Sermons on Dominion Over Demons,Disease,andDeath,he tellsaboutpraying foramanwhohadsugardiabetes.Theyknelt topray,whensuddenlyLakeaskedthemanwhatthis$5,000wasthatkeptcomingupbeforehim.Themanansweredthathisbrotherandhehadbeeninbusinessand his brother had died. His sister-in-law wanted him toliquidatethebusiness,andhedid.Buthehadkept$5,000outfor himself because he felt he deserved it, though it wasactuallyhermoney.HetoldLakethathehadmorethan$5,000inthebank,whereuponLaketoldhimtowriteoutacheckfor$5,000, and then he would pray for him. The man wrote thecheck,walked to themail box, and sent it to his sister-in-law.Whenhecamebackhewashealed.Sometimesmatterslikethisnullifytheeffectsofprayer.

SomebodymaysaythattheybelieveJohn16:23,24,but...

Don'tsay"but,"becausethere'snota"but"inthatverse.

SomebodysaystheybelievethisScripture,if...Thereisnotan

"if"inthatverse,sodon'tsay"if."JusttakeJesusatHisWord.

JesussaysinJohn16:24,"Hithertohaveyeaskednothinginmyname ...."Up to this time, no one had ever asked anything inHisNamebecauseHewasontheearth.PrayinginJesus'Namedidn'tdoanygooduntilHebeganHismediatorialintercessionattherighthandoftheFather.

"...ask,andyeshallreceive,thatyourjoymaybefull"(v.24).Yourjoycannotbefullwithyourneedsunmet.Yourjoycannotbefullifyoucannotpayyourrentoryourbills.Youcannotbefullofjoyifyourchildrenaresick.

Wewereholdingaservice,andthephonerangaboutsixo'clockintheevening.Itwasmymother-in-law,whowastakingcareof

ourchildren,andshesaidthatmyson,Ken,hadthemumps.Hehadbeensickallafternoon.SosheputKenonthephone,andhe said that he had told his grandmother to call because heknewthatIwouldpraytoGodandGodwouldhealhim.WhenKenhungupthephone,weprayed.Shetolduslaterthathelaydownand fell asleep.About forty-fiveminutes later, shewokehimup,toldhimtogethispajamason,andgotobed.

Hehadnofever,theswellingwasgone,andhewasfine!Fromthattimeonheneverdidhavethemumps.Goddoeshearandanswerprayer!Toomuchof the timepeople justmakea littlestab in the dark and call that praying. They just hope thatsomethingwillworkout.

LetuscallattentiontothedifferencebetweenprayingforJesus'sakeandprayingintheNameofJesus.WhenyougotoGodandaskHimtodosomethingforJesus'sake,youareaskingthatitbe done to help Jesus, on your credit. That sounds foolishbecause Jesusdoesnotneedthehelp,andyoudon'thaveanycredittoguaranteeit,ifHedid.Weneedthehelp,andHehasthecredit!Fromnowon,don'tpray,"ForJesus'sake."

If Ihaveastomachache,and Iampraying forhealing, Idon'twantittostophurtingforJesus'sake;itistohelpme.Iamtheonewho ishurting,not Jesus. If Iowe$100and Iamprayingforittocomeintheoffering,Idothattohelpmyself.

IknowthatGodhashelpedusonalowerlevelwhenwedidnotknowanybetter,butweoughttobeabletogrowinprayer.

TheBibleteachesusthatthereisasimilaritybetweenphysicalandspiritualgrowth.Nooneisbornafullygrownhumanbeing.

Peoplearebornbabies,andtheygrowup.Weoughttobeableto improve upon our praying just as we improve upon thingsphysically.

WhenIwasayoungboyIusedtopray,"NowIlaymedowntosleep...."ButIdonotpraythatwayanymore.Whensomewerespiritualbabies,theymighthaveprayedcertainwaysandGodmet them, helped them, and it sufficed for that day, but Godwantsustogrowspiritually.

WhenyoumeetGodonHislevel,itmakesabigdifference.

He requiresmore of you as you grow.When light comes andteachingisgiven,Godrequiresyoutowalkinthatlight.

"In my name... they shall speak with new tongues" (Mark16:17). Every believer ought to be speaking in tongues. YoucandoitinJesus'Name.

"Inmyname. ..Theyshalltakeupserpents" (Mark16:17,18).Thatmeans that if you are accidentally bitten by a viper, youcanshake itoffandclaim immunity in theNameof Jesus.Forexample,whenPaultheapostlewasshipwreckedonanisland,hepickedupstickstobuildafireandaviperfastenedontohishand.Thepeoplethoughthehaddonesomethingterrible,foritlookedasifjudgmenthadcomeuponhim.Theyexpectedhimtofalldead.Theywatchedhim,buthedidnotgetsickanddidnotfalldead.Theythoughthewasagod.

IneastTexas,aministerfriendofmineandsomefriendsofhiswere out fishing in one of the rivers, and a cottonmouthmoccasin bit him. It frightened the other men because theywerenotsaved.MyfriendshookitoffintheNameofJesusandwentabouthisbusiness.Hisfriendswatchedhim,andsawthatitneverhadanyevileffectonhim.ThisisnotextremebecauseitisBiblical.

The Bible says, "... if they drink any deadly thing [poison], itshall not hurt them..." (Mark 16:18). This means that if youaccidentally takepoison,youhavetheright toclaimimmunityintheNameofJesus.

Someyearsago,thesuperintendentoftheAssembliesofGodinthe Texas district related this story to a group of ministers:Manyyearsago,theTexasdistricthadaconventioninCorpusChristi,Texas.Theministersdidnothaveagreatdealofmoneytostayingoodhotels,sotheywereoccupyingaboutathird-ratehotel. The hotel didn't have running water, but there was apitcherofwater in theroom.All theministershadeatentheirmeals together in a cook tent. After they had finished eating,someofthembegantogetsick.Finally,abouttwentyorthirtyof thembecamedesperately ill, so theybeganpraying foroneanother. As they prayed, someone had a revelation that thewater in the hotel was poisoned, so they told the rest of thegroupnottodrinkitanymore.Everybodywashealed.Thentheytook the remainingwater toanearbynaval stationandhad ittested.

Theexaminingofficerstoldthemthattherewasenoughpoisoninthatwatertokillaregimentofmen.

Someone had tried to play a cruel joke on these ministersbecauseeveryoneknewthatthisgroupbelievedinmiraclesandhealing.Noneofthepartyhadtohavemedicalaid!TheyhadarighttoclaimimmunityintheNameofJesusbecausetheyhadaccidentally been poisoned. This is not extreme teaching,because it is in the Word. The Bible says, "... they shall layhandsonthesick,andtheyshallrecover"(Mark16:18).

Notice that Jesus said, "In my name ... they shall speak with

newtongues... theyshall layhandson thesick,andtheyshallrecover"(Mark16:17,18).YoulayhandsonpeopleinHisName.Youdo the speaking in tongues, and theHolySpirit gives theutterance.YouhavearighttodothatintheNameofJesus.

Thisisjustasstrongandlegalasitcanbe.TheordinarychildofGodhasjustasmuchrighttousetheNameofJesusagainstthedevilasaministerdoes.

Someone said to me that if he had enough faith he could dowhatthisScripturesays.Jesusneversaidawordaboutfaithinthis Scripture. He said, "He that BELIEVETH... In my name..." (vv. 16,17). You already have faith. If you believe in theNameofJesus,thenuseit.Itisnotstrugglingforfaith;itisjustsimplyboldlytakingourrights,andusingwhatbelongstous.

Inthebusinessworld,youhavearighttousewhatisyours.

Youdon't think thenabouthavingenough faith.Thatdoesnotenteryourmind.Itiswhenthatpersonwhoneedshealingactsuponwhatbelongstohim,thathegetshishealing.

Too much of the time folks do not believe as they should indivine healing. They aremerelymentally assenting that thesethings are so.Wehavepeople sitting in the church, testifyingthattheyknowtheWordofGodistrue,buttheystilldon'tgettheirhealing.TheyarenotactinginfaithandusingtheNameof Jesus.Whenweact on theWord, itworks. James said, "Beyedoersoftheword,andnothearersonly..."(James1:22).Itisjustamatterofknowingwhatbelongstousandactingonit.Itistakingyourlegalright.Jamesgoesontosay,"ForifanybeaheareroftheWord,andnotadoer,hedeceiveshimself"(James1:23-26). Themargin says that he "deludes himself."We havemanyself-deludedpeople.

Actasboldlyasyouwouldinthebusinessworld.TheNameofJesusbelongstomejustasmuchasmyhandsandfeetbelongtome.Ijustgoaheadandusethembecausetheyaremine.Youwillfindthatthedevilwillseektoconfuseyou.Hewillseektowithstandyou.ButtheNameofJesusisyours—souseit!

Wehaveplentyofpeoplewhopray,but the resultsprove thattheirprayersare tonoavail. If youdonotget results toyourpraying,thenyouareaprayerfailure.Ifyouarenotexpectingresults, then there is no need to pray. Pray to profit. Greatbusinessesdobusiness to profit.Wemustmake a business ofprayer.

ThefoundationofthisgreatcountryisChristianity.ThebasisofChristianityisalivingreligionthathastouchwithalivingGodwhohearsandanswersprayer.Weshouldprayforresults.Ifwepray,andresultsdonotfollow,thenweshouldseektofindthe

trouble. The big things of Christianity are all supernatural. Ifthere are no results, then it shows that we have the formwithoutthepower.AllthethingsthatGodhasareofferedtous—ifonlywepray.Ifwedon'thavethem,thenit isbecausewehavenotmadeourprayerconnection.God isstill in thesamebusiness.

ThroughtheyearsIhavegonetochurcheswherenotasinglesoulhasbeensaved foryears.Whydon'twe justgetdown tothebasicprinciplesandfindoutwhatisthematter?Godisnotuntrue.Miraclescanstillhappen.

IntheearlydaysoftheAssembliesofGodmovement,therewasa preacher by the name of I. J. Jamison. He was formerly aPresbyterian minister. In his testimony he told that hewaslecturinginawesterncityasaPresbyterian,andtherewasa forest fire raging in the area. About ten in themorning, hewas down at the barber shop getting a shave when a fellowcame in with a telegram, asking the people in a nearby tentmeetingtoprayforrain.Themeninthebarbershopallbegantalking about the tentmeeting where there were people whobelievedinthiskindofthing.Buttheywereafraidtotakethetelegramovertothetent.SoMr.Jamisonagreedtotakeitandhehandedittotheminister.Hesaidthattheministerquietedeveryone and read the request, whereupon everyone beganpraying.Afterward,theythankedGodthattherewouldberain.Theminister gave Jamison the telegram and told him to sendonebacksaying that therewouldbe rainby ten thatnight. Itshockedhim.Jamisonwentbacktothebarbershopandtoldthemenwhathadhappened.Theyalllaughedaboutitandreadtheweatherreportwhichsaidthattherewouldnotbeanyrainforatleastfourorfivedays.

Jamisonwentontohislecture,andthenwenthometobed.

Hiswifehadwashedsomeclothesandhadleftthemoutontheline, so he teased her about bringing them in because it wasgoingtorain.They laughedabout itandthenabout9:30 theyfell off to sleep.Directly, theywereawakenedby thunderandlightning.Itwasraining!

This reallymade Jamisonwonder.Afterhisown lectureswereover,hebeganattendingthetentmeeting.Hewouldsitdownatthebackandtakenotesoneverything.Hecouldnotunderstandwhyhehadnotseenall these thingsbefore.Hesaidheknewthat there was a woman in the church whose daughter wasinsane.Hehadheardthatthiswomanandsomeofthepeopleweregoingtomeetattheasylumtotrytocastadeviloutofherdaughter. The mother was taking a dozen women with her.Jamisonaskedifhecouldgoalong.Hemetthemattheasylum,andtheattendantsaidtheycouldnotgoinbecausethegirlwas

violentandmightkillthem.Theywerestoppedbeforeapaddedcell,wheretherewasayoungwomaninsidewholookedlikeananimal.Shehissedandspit;hereyeswereablaze.Allthistimetheattendantwastellingthemthattheycouldnotgoinsidethecellbecauseiftheydid,hewouldlosehisjob.Nevertheless,heunlockedthedoor.Themotherwent in,andthedozenwomenfell on their knees and started praying. Jamison and theattendantstoodbackandwatched.

Thedaughtersteppedbackandclimbedhalfwayupthepaddedwall. Shemade a leap at hermother like an animal, and themothersidesteppedher.Thegirlfellandthenstartedtogetup.Themotherheldherdownandsaid,"Comeoutofher,devil,inthe Name of Jesus." Jamison stood there and watchedspellbound.Fortenminutesthemothersaidthisoverandoveragain. Suddenly, thedaughter relaxed and askedher if itwasshe.Shethrewherarmsaroundhermother'sneckandhuggedand kissed her. I. J. Jamison witnessed it and said that hewantedtheHolyGhost.Hesaidthathewasacandidateforthatkind of praying. Thatmother believed, and she receivedwhatshewanted.

ThePrayerSecretofPrayingforResults

Andinthatdayyeshallaskmenothing.Verily,verily,Isayuntoyou, Whatsoever ye shall ask theFather in my name, he willgiveityou.

Hithertohaveyeaskednothing inmyname:ask, andye shallreceive,thatyourjoymaybefull.

Weare to pray in theNameof Jesus to theFather.Weare toprayforresults.Ifresultsdonotfollow,thenourprayerlifeisafailure.

I remember reading about Dr. Charles Price. Someone hadphoned him and asked him to come to the hospital. Heordinarily did not go because of lack of time, but the personcallinghadbeenclosetohimindayspast,soheagreedtogo.This woman had been converted under hisministry.When hearrived,hefoundthatshewasdyingofcancer.Thedoctorcamewhilehewasthere,soDr.Pricetoldthewomanthathewouldgohomeandprayforher.Thedoctortoldhimthatitwouldbejusta shortwhilebefore shewoulddie.Thedoctor thought itwould be a good idea to pray because it would soothe hernerves.ButDr.

Pricetoldhimthathewasn'tgoingtoprayforhersothather

nerveswouldbesoothed.HesaidthathewasgoingtopraythatGod would heal her! The doctor looked astonished. He knewthatitjustcouldn'tbeso.ButDr.Pricedidprayforher,andshewashealed!Hewasprayingforresults.

P.C.Nelson,whowasaminister,wasrunoverbyanautomobileand the doctors said that hewould lose his limb, but hewashealed. He then held healing meetings across the nation fordifferentchurches.

Nelson was holding a meeting for the Baptists, and hewas praying for the sick. A man who was pastor of anotherBaptist church in Arkansas and had gone to seminary withNelson, heard that he was holding these services. This manattendedandwasverymuchopposed.HetalkedaboutNelsonathome,andhis familydecidedtogototheservices.Hetookthemalongandhismotherwhowaslivingwiththem.

The next morning they were talking about the service atbreakfast.TheBaptistpastordidn'tthinkitwasrighttoprayforsomeonepublicly,buthismothersaidthatshewouldn'tcriticizeNelson.Finally, their youngest childwhowasabout five yearsoldspokeup.Hesaidthattheonlydifferencehecouldseewasthat his daddy prayed for folks on Sunday morning,saying, "Lord, bless the sick," while not really expectinganything to happen. Nelson prayed as if he expected God tohealthemrightthen.Thiscausedtheministertostartthinking.Hedecidedtocooperatewiththemeetings.

Healsosawthatheought topray forresults.There isnousepraying if you are not praying for results. God does hear andanswerprayer.Hewantstohearandansweryourprayer.GoddidnotputallthesestatementsintheBibleaboutprayerjusttofillupspace.Theyarethereforourbenefit.

ISAIAH43:25,26

25I,evenI,amhethatblottethoutthytransgressionsformineownsake,andwillnotrememberthysins.

26Putmeinremembrance:letuspleadtogether:declarethou,thatthoumayestbejustified.

Notice that God said, "Put me in remembrance. " Those whohave been mighty in prayer have always been those whoreminded God of His promises and brought His Word beforeHim.

Charles Finney is probably the most outstanding exponent ofprayer.Heisknownasthemanwhoprayeddownrevivals.Hehad the greatest success and his converts were the mostconsistentsincethedaysoftheapostlePaul.ItiscommonThe

knowledgethat85%ofhisconvertsremainedtruetoGod.

Moody was a great evangelist but only about 50% of hisconvertsremainedfaithful.Wehavehadamightymove inthepast fifty years, but it is common knowledge that not over50%oftheconvertshaveremainedtruetotheLord.Finneyhadthegreatestsuccessnumbers'wiseasfaraskeepingthefruitofhis labor,sincethedaysoftheapostlePaul.Wholecitieswerestirred.

For instance, Iread inFinney'sautobiographythat in1829hewenttothecityofRochester,NewYork,whereheconductedameeting and practically everyone in town was saved. All thegrog shops closed down. (We now call them honky-tonks andbeerjoints.)Therewasnotaplaceleftintownwhereonecouldbuyanythingtodrink.Theonlytheaterintownclosedup.Therewassucha revival thatwhenacircuscame to town,only twopeople went to see it, so it had to close. Everybody wasinterestedinGod.Therevivalwason.Thepeoplewerejustnotconcernedaboutanythingelse.

IalsoreadthatFinneywenttoholdanothermeetingwhenhewasaPresbyterian.HehadbeentalkingaboutfifteenminuteswhenthepowerofGodfellonhim.Aboutfourhundredpeoplefell off their seats onto the floor, and it was a Presbyterianchurch!Hedidn'tknowwhatwashappening,buthesaid thathe foundout later that theyhadallbeensinnersandhad justgottensavedwhentheyfellunderthepower.Finneyprayedforrevival.

He was a real man of prayer. He said that he had someexperiences inprayerthat indeedalarmedhim.HeaddedthathefoundhimselfsayingtotheLord,"Lord,Youdon'tthinkthatwearenotgoingtohavearevivalhere,doYou?Youdon'tthinkthat You could withhold Your blessings?" He found himselfremindingtheLordwhatHehadpromised.

George Whitfield, another minister, came over from Englandand preached on the streets. He was speaking in the publicsquare in Boston, Massachusetts. When he began topreach,folksclimbedupintotreestobeabletoseebecausethecrowdwassolarge.Whitfieldtoldthemtocomedown,becausewhenthepowerofGodcametheywouldfalloutofthetrees.

Smith Wigglesworth said that God delights in His childrenhavingtheaudacityoffaithtosay,"God,Youhavepromisedit,sonowdoit."Yousaythatinfaith.ThisagreeswithwhatGodsays,forGodsaid,"Putmeinremembrance."TheywereputtingHim in remembranceofwhatHe said. IfGodwantsus toput

Himinremembrance,thenlet'sdoit.Isaiah43:26saidit.

We are certainly facing great needs everywhere. People aredying for theneedofChrist.Thesickneedhealing.Theweakneedstrength.Whatisyourpart?AreyouinHiswill?AreyoudoingwhatHewantsyoutodo?IsyourliferightwithGod?

Doesyourheartcondemnyou?Ifso,getrightwithHimnow.

ThankGodthatdoesnottakeverylong.

Whatever you are praying about, stand your ground untilvictoryismanifested.Godwantstosendyoutheanswer.Thisisaspiritualwarfareagainstthehostofdarkness.TheBiblesayssoinEphesians6:12.

12Forwewrestlenotagainstfleshandblood,butagainstprincipalities, against powers, against the rulers of thedarkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness inhighplaces.

Get down before the Mighty One and persist in prayer eventhough the enemymight try to hinder you.We haveweaponswithwhichtofightthedevil.OurweaponsaretheSwordoftheSpirit,whichistheWordofGodandthemightyNameofJesus.

Thedemonscannotstandthese.Youcandefeatthedevileverysingletime.Praytovictory.Ifyouareprayingforthesick,claimtheirdeliveranceinJesus'Name.Jesussaid,"...Inmyname...

they [believers] shall lay hands upon the sick, and they shallrecover" (Mark 16:17,18). Lay your hands on them and claimtheir deliverance in the Name of Jesus. You have solidgroundonwhichtostand.

If it is money, pray that it be loosened. This is because themoneyishereinthisrealm.Godisnotacounterfeiter.Heisnotgoing tomake anymoney and rain it down fromheaven.Godputallthesilverandgoldandcattleonathousandhillshereforyouandme.Hedidnotputithereforthedevilandhiscrowd.

He put it here and gave Adam dominion over all of it. ThenAdamcommittedhightreasonandsoldouttothedevil;thusthedevil became thegodof thisworld.Adamwas thegodof thisworld in that he had dominion over it but he sold out to thedevil,sonowthedevilhasthedominion.But,thankGod,Jesuscame anddefeated the devil.He gave us the right to useHisName.

At one time I was poverty-stricken and had my nose to the

grindstone. Then I began to see something. TheLord toldmenevertoprayformoney.HesaidformenottoaskHimtogivememoney, for itwasdownhere.He instructedmethat in theNameofJesusIshouldcommandthemoneytocome.WhateverIwantedorneeded,Ishouldclaimit.HesaidthatHewantedHis children to have the best. InGod'sWordHe said thatHewanted His children to eat the good of the land. His Worddeclares, "If ye then, being evil, know how to give good giftsuntoyourchildren,howmuchmoreshallyourFatherwhichisinheavengivegoodthingstothemthataskhim"(Matt.7:11).

WeneedtorealizetheprinciplesbywhichGodworks.GodhasgivenustheNameofJesus.Hesaidthatitwasn'tHewhowasholding finances fromme; it wasn't Hewho did not wantmychildren to have the right kind of food to eat. If it were, Hewouldn'tbetherightkindofaFather.Heremindedmethatanyold sinner could be a father who was concerned about hischildren,andthatevenananimalcouldbeconcernedabouthisoffspring.Hesaid that thereneverwasanearthlyparentwhodesiredtodomoreforhischildrenthatHedid.HesaidthattheproblemwasthatHischildrendidnotcooperatewithHim.Hetoldmetocommandthedeviltotakehishandsoffthefinances.

If you pray to God to give you $100, you are putting all theresponsibility upon Him. But the responsibility is on our partbecause through Jesus Christ deliverance has already beenmadeforus.

IimmediatelybegantodowhatHesaid.FromthatdaytothisInever pray anymore aboutmoney. I just tell Satan to takehishandsoffmymoney.IalwayssaythatIclaimsomuchmoney.Ialways say that angels areministering spiritswhoare sent toministertothosewhoareheirsofsalvation."Tominister"

means towaiton or toserve.When yougo to a restaurant, awaitresscomestoserveortoministertoyou.

ThisistheillustrationtheLordgavemewhenIwasprayinginthe Spirit. Actually, I had a vision and saw an angel. Jesusinformedmethat thatwasmyangel. JesusspoketomeaboutthetimeHesaidinHisWord:"Sufferthelittlechildrentocomeuntome"(Matt19:14).ThenHealsosaid,"TheirangeliseverbeforemyFather'sface"(Matt.18:10).Jesussaidthiswhenthedisciples were rebuking the people for pressing around HimwhenHewastired.JesustoldmethatjustbecauseIgrewup,Ididnotlosemyangel.TheLordtoldmetotellmyministeringspirits, or angels, to go and cause themoney to come. I havebeendoingthat,andithasbeenworkingeversincethen.

Aswepray,wereceivetheanswersweneed.Prayeristhelifeofthechurch.Ibelievethatwe'reonlyinthebeginningofthe

prayerconquest.IfeelthatthereisagreatdealmorethatGodisgoingtodointheselastdays.Ibelievethatweareonlyinthebeginning of the prayer fight that is to end this dispensation.Learnthesecretofprayingforothers.Prayformenandwomenbyname.Don'tjustlumpthemtogetherandprayforthemasagroup. Don't just pray for God to save souls. Mention theirnamesspecificallytoGod.

InthelastchurchIpastoredwehadauniqueprayermeeting.

ItoldthepeopleIwantedthemtocomeonThursdaynightandwrite on a piece of paper the name of the person theywantedmost to see saved. If itwereahusbandandwife theyweretowritebothnamesdown.

It turnedout that theweather thatnightwasverybadwithagreatdealofsleetandsnow.Everyonewasinstructedtostayoffthe streets.Wewerenotused to this kindofweather,neitherdid we have the equipment to take care of it. Nevertheless,nineteenpeoplecame to themeeting. Igatheredupallof thenames,putthemintheofferingplate,andmixedthemup.Thenwepassedtheplatearound,andeachonetookaname.ItookoneandsaidthatIwasgoingtoprayforthatparticularpersontobesavedduring thecomingrevival. I told themto listen towhat I said and then agree with it. I finishedmy prayer andthenweliftedourhandsandpraisedGodbecausethatpersonwas saved. I told the people not to pray for that personanymore, because we had already settled it. We went rightdown through the listandprayed foreachone.All thepeoplefor whom we prayed except two, were saved during thatmeeting.Ihadneverhadthatkindofsuccessinmylife.

Preaching at a campmeeting in 1954, Imet awomanwhosehusbandhadbeenoneofthosewehadprayedfor.Ihadheardthathehadgottensaved.Yousee,all thosepeopleweprayedfor,excepttwo,weresavedwithinamonth'stime,andtheothertwo were saved before the year was over. When the meetingconcluded,thiscouplecameup,andthehusbandsaid,"BrotherHagin, I want to hug your neck; you know that I am yourbrothernow."Hesaidthathehadgottensavedthatyear,aftertheymovedbacktoCalifornia.

Iwas glad to know that prayer stillworks.Whenwepray forresultsaccordingtoGod'sWord,God'sWorddoesnotfail.

Chapter4

ThePrayerSecretofAgreeingandPrayingintheSpirit

We are talking about prayer secrets. Here is the secret ofagreeing.

MATTHEW18:19

19AgainIsayuntoyou,Thatiftwoofyoushallagreeonearthastouchinganythingthattheyshallask,itshallbedoneforthemofmyFatherwhichisinheaven.

Do not put any limitations on that. Let's just takeHim atHisWord.

It is like the storywewere toldabout a littlegirl.Herpastorkeptsaying,"Thatdoesn'tmeanthat,"and"Thisdoesn'tmeanthis." She finally asked, "If Jesus did notmeanwhatHe said,thenwhydidn'tHesaywhatHemeant?"Thatisaprettygoodthought.IfHedidn'tmeanwhatHesaid,thenwhydidn'tHesaywhatHemeant?IbelieveJesussaidwhatHemeantandmeantwhatHesaid.

SeveralyearsagoIwaspreachinginwestTexas,atChristmastime. Although I had been there for three weeks the pastorwanted me to stay three more weeks. I still had anothermeetingbeforeChristmas.Thepastortheninformedmethathehadabigpaymenteveryyearonthechurchproperty,andeachSundaynightinDecemberhetookanofferingforthispurpose.

He said if I would stay, he would take up an offering for thepayment first, and then take upmy offering later.He said herealizedthatIwouldneedextramoneyatChristmastimesinceIwouldnotbe inmeetingsduring theholidays, buthewasnotsureifhispeoplecouldgiveanyextra.Nonetheless,Iagreedtostay,believingthatIwouldreceivesufficientofferings.Iwrotemy wife telling her that I was going to stay on, and that Iwanted her to open her Bible the next Sunday afternoon toMatthew18:19andagreewithmeforsomuchmoney.IassuredherthatIwoulddothesame.Weclaimedhalfagainasmuchaswehadbeengettingeachweek.

ThatnextSundaynight thepastor tookuphisoffering for theproperty and then mine. I received three dollars more thanwhatmywifeandIhadagreedupon.

ThenextweekIwrotemywifetellinghertodothesamethingagain on the following Sunday afternoon and that I would dolikewise.Whentheweekwasover,wereceived$1.49abovetheamountwehadaskedfor.

The Sunday night before Christmas, the church had a littleChristmasprogram,andIpreachedonlyfifteenminutes.

Afterwards, the pastor took up an offering again for thepropertyandthenoneforme.

After the service, we went to the parsonage, and the pastor

askedmehowmuchIhadgottenforthatweek.Itoldhimthatthedeaconshadnotyettoldme.Sincethedeaconswerebusy,the pastor and I counted the money. The offering was about$20shortofwhatmywifeandIhadclaimed.Isuggestedthatwecountitagain,becausethemoneyhadtobethere.Itoldhimwhat my wife and I had done, and I said that if it were notthere, then I would have to go to every church where I hadpreachedandtellthemthatJesuswasaliarandthattheBiblewasnotso.

If it did not work, I wanted to throw it away. I am just thathonest.

I do notmean that things will come to you like ripe cherriesfallingfromatree,becauseyouhavetostandyourground.Youhavetostandyourgroundagainstthedevil.Inanythingelseinlife,peoplewillfightfortheirrightsandwhatbelongstothem.

They will lose sleep and put forth every effort. But when itcomestospiritualthings,theywillrollover,shuttheireyesandplaydead.Weneedtogetdowntobusinessandfindoutwherethe answer is. God's Word works. Many times in prayer Ihavegonerightoverthesamegroundagainandagain.

IfIhadaveryvaluableringandfoundthatIhadlostthesettingout of the ring, Iwould go over the ground carefullywhere IthoughtIhadlostit.Iwouldgetdownonmyhandsandknees,crawlingaround, ifnecessary, looking for it.When itcomes tospiritualmattersIdothesamething—Iretracemysteps.

SoItoldthepastorthatthemoneyhadtobethere.Wecounteditagainandwewerestillshort.Hecountedhalfthemoney,andI counted the other half. Then he counted the half that I hadcounted, and I counted his half. We still arrived at the samefigure. I told him that it just had to be there. We decided tocount itagain.Hesaid thatwewouldcountallnightuntilwegotit.

Suddenly,Irememberthatthepastor'swifehadboughtaBiblefrommebeforechurch.Shehadpaidmeforitandhadputthe$7.50inanenvelope.Shetoldmeatthesametimethattherewasapersonalofferingthatshedidnotwanttogothroughthechurch. She told me not to tell even her husband. It was a$25.00offering,andIhadforgottenallaboutit.ThenItoldhimthatIhada$25.00offering,butIdidn'ttellhimwhogaveittome.

Therefore,Ihad$5.00abovewhatwehadclaimed!

StandonGod'sWordandsaythatithastobe.LookthestorminthefacelikePauldid.Jesus'Wordismoresurethanthewordofanangel.Paulsaid,"Fortherestoodbymethisnighttheangel

ofGod,whoseIam,andwhomIserve"(Acts27:23).

He concluded saying, "Wherefore, sirs... I believe God, that itshallbeevenasitwastoldme"(Acts27:25).

God's written Word is even more sure than the word of anangel. Look the contradictory circumstances in the face andsay,"Whereforesirs,IbelieveGodthatitshallbeevenasitwastoldme."Youwillfindoutthatthedevilanddemonswillrelentin their opposition, and the answer will come. Stand yourground and Godwill hear you. Look the foreboding clouds inthefaceandsay,"Whereforesirs,IbelieveGodthatitshallbeevenasitwastoldme."Youwillfindoutthenthatthedevilanddemons will relent in their opposition, and the answer willcome.Standyourground,andGodwillhearyou.

Inorder for theprayerofagreement towork, therehas tobetwoof youand youhave tobeon the earth.That fits us.ThestrongestassertionthatyoucanmakeintheEnglishlanguageis to say, "I will or I shall." You cannot make any strongerassertionthanthat.Jesussaid,"...itSHALLbedoneforthemofmyFatherwhichisinheaven"(Matt.18:19).

Iwaspreaching inSalem,Oregon, in1957duringa recessionthatwas then on in the nation.Oregonwas one of the statesthat felt the recession desperately. An unemployed mechanicfrom the church put some new brakes on my car out at hishouse.He hadworked for a company for nineteen years as amechanic,butthebusinesshadtoclosedown.

Afterthemeeting,thisChristianmechanicandhiswifeandmywife and I were eating together, and they related what hadhappenedtothemafterIpreachedonMark11:23:"Whosoevershallsayandnotdoubtinhisheart,butshallbelievethatthosethingswhichhesaithshallcometopass,shallhavewhatsoeverhesaith."

Ihadinvitedpeopleinthemeetingtocomeforwardtospeakinfaith for whatever they wanted to see come to pass in theirlives.Thatnightasthismanandwomanweregoinghome,thewomanaskedherhusbandwhathehadsaid.Hethenaskedherthesamequestion.Theyhadalotwhichtheyhadbeentryingtosellforseveralyears;shetoldherhusbandthatshehadaskedforthelottobesold.Hesaidthathehadaskedtheverysamething.

Thenextmorningatthebreakfasttableshetoldherhusbandtogobacktotherealestatemanandlistthelotagain.Hewenttotherealestatemanwhotoldhimthat theproperty justwouldnotsell.TheChristianmechanictoldtherealestateagentthathe wanted to list it anyway. The agent agreed and suggested

thatheseeamanwhohadtriedtobuythelotbeforeatalowerprice.

TheChristianmechanicfoundthemanandlearnedthathewasstill interested in the lot andwould even take it for the pricethatthecouplehadaskedforit.Fortwoyearsthiscouplehadneededtheextramoneyandcouldhavehadit,iftheyhadonlysaidit.

InsteadofbelievingwiththehearttheyhadbeenprayingthatGodwoulddosomethingaboutit.Wehaveourparttoplaytoo.

This Christian mechanic also worked in the forests whenweatherpermitted.Themanwhoboughtthe lotownedafleetoftrucks,andheaskedthemechanicifhewouldliketohaveajob.

Heacceptedthejob,whichwasyear-roundemploymentandthesalarywas$100morethanhehadbeengetting.HiswifesaidthattheyhadalwaysknownMark11:23,24wasintheBible,butthiswasthefirsttimetheyhadeverreallyactedonit.

ItisasadthingthatSpirit-filledChristiansgothroughlifeandneveractupontheWord.God'sWordistrue.Jesusdidnotsaythatitmightbedoneorthattherewasapossibilitythatitcouldbedone.Instead,Hesaidthatitshallbedone!Ifyouagreeonanything, it shall be done. Instead of arguing with the Bible,whydon'tyoujustsideinwithit.

YearsagowhenIwasaBaptistboy,afriendofmineworkedforhisbrotherinalittlegaragethathadhardlyenoughroomtogetone car in it. It was during the depression days. His brotherpaidhim$3.00aweekandfedhim.Besidesthis,bothbrotherstried to help their parentswhowere very poor. I remember Istopped by to see my friend, and he was working on a '34Chevrolet.Hisbrotherhadjustleft.Hetoldmethathewantedmetoprayaboutsomethingwithhim.Hehadbeengoingwithayoung lady, andhewanted to getmarried, but he couldn't on$3.00aweek.Hewantedmetopraythathewouldgetagoodjob,becausehedidnotevenhaveanydresspants.Hesaidhehadappliedforajob,butthemenwhotookhisapplicationtoldhimthattherewere2,000aheadofhim.Hewasgoingtoapplyforanotherjobatacottonmill,andhewantedmetoagreewithhim that hewould get it. Even though therewere hardly anyjobsaroundtobehad,heknewGodwoulddosomethingaboutit.

ItoldhimaboutMatthew18:19,andweagreedthathewouldhavethatjobwithintendays.Onthetenthdaytheycalledhim,andhewenttoworkfor$10aweek.Inalittlewhileheboughthimselfacoupleofsuitsofclothes,andinaboutninemonthshe

got married on $10 a week. He stayed there until he waspromotedtobeoneofthebosses,earningagoodsalary.

ThenGodcalledhimtopreach,andhewentintotheministry.

That was my first experience in acting upon this verse ofScripture. It will work because it is God's Word. You can bemightyinprayeralone,butyoucanbemightierwithsomeonejoiningyou.

I remember Smith Wigglesworth telling of an EnglishPresbyterian lady who had come to his little mission andreceived the baptism of the Holy Spirit. (You may haveexperiencedthatyourselfwhenyoufirstreceived,youthoughteveryonewouldbehappy foryoubutyou foundout later thatmaybe theywere not so thrilled!) This ladywent back to herchurchandstartedspeakingintongues,whereupontheythrewherout.Herhusbandwasontheboard,andtheytoldhimthathewould have to put a stop to it, or else theywould have toexcommunicate her for good. He went home angry andinformedherthatshewouldhavetochoosebetweentheHolySpirit and him. He would give her ten days to make up hermind.ShesentwordforWigglesworthtocometoprayforher.Whenhe came, he saw that her face and eyeswere red fromcrying. She told him that he was too late; nonetheless,Wigglesworth assured her that God never sent him anywheretoolate.Sherelatedthestoryandaddedthat itwasthetenthday.

Atthebreakfasttablethatmorningherhusbandhadaskedherwhatherdecisionwas.Shetoldhimthatshecouldnotgiveupthe Holy Spirit, so he had packed and left. Wigglesworthtold her that if they agreed in prayer, her husband would beback.Shereplied,"Youdon'tknowmyhusband!"

Heanswered,"No,Idon'tknowhim,butIknowmyJesus."

She informed him that her husband never went back on hisword.

AfteralittletimeWigglesworthsucceededinshowingherwhattheWordsaid.Hetoldherthatalltheyhadtodowastoagreeonearth.Finally,sheagreedtoagreewithWigglesworth.Theyprayed and asked that her husband would come back. Whilethey were praying, she began praying in the Spirit.Wigglesworth toldher thatwhenherhusbandcameback thatnight(hedidn'tsay"if"),sheshouldbeveryniceandactas ifnothinghadhappenedatall.Headdedthatafterherhusbandwent to bed she should go to another room to be alone, startprayingintheSpirit,andwhenshewasintheSpirit,sheshouldgoquietlyandlayherhandonhimandclaimhissoul.

Wigglesworth left, and the woman's husband came back thatevening.Shecookedhimhisfavoritesupperandlaterwhenshewasprayingwhilehewasasleep,shelaidherhandonhimandclaimedhissoul.Theminuteshetouchedhim,hejumpedoutofbedandaskedtheLordtosavehim.Hethenconfessedthathewasaboardmemberofthechurchbutwasnotreallysaved.HewasconvertedandinafewminuteshewasfilledwiththeSpirittoo. This all happened becauseWigglesworth and thiswomanhadagreedinprayer.

26LikewisetheSpiritalsohelpethourinfirmities:forweknownotwhatwe should pray for aswe ought: but theSpirit itself maketh intercession for us with groaningswhichcannotbeuttered.

Dr.P.C.NelsonaffirmsthattheGreektranslationsaysthattheSpirit makes intercession, "with groanings which cannot beuttered in articulate speech." Articulate speech means yournormalkindofspeech.Thisverseincludesprayingwithtonguesalso. That agrees with what Paul says in First Corinthians14:14:"For if Ipray inanunknowntongue,myspiritprayeth,butmyunderstandingisunfruitful. "TheAmplifiedBible says,"...myspirit[bytheHolySpiritwithinme]prays...."

Weknownotwhattoprayforasweought.Youcannotpossiblyknow inyournaturalmindwhat topray forasyouought.Forinstance,ifIamprayingforsomeoneIknow,andIaskGodtoblesshim,allIamdoingissalvingmyconsciencesoIcansaythatIprayedforhim.Youcanjustsaywhatyouwantto,butweknownotwhat topray forasweought.ThankGod, theSpirithelpethourinfirmities.

ThatdoesnotmeanthatthisissomethingtheHolyGhostdoesapartfromyou.ThatwouldmaketheHolyGhostresponsibleforyourprayer lifeandHe isnot,because theBible teaches thatyou are responsible. The Holy Spirit is not sent to do yourpraying for you, butHe is sent tohelp you in every aspect oflife, including your prayer life. These groanings come out ofyourspiritandescapeyourlips;thatistheSpirithelpingyou.

Somethingscomeoutthatjustcannotbeexpressedinwords.

ThesegroaningsareinspiredbytheHolySpirit,andtheycomefromwithinyou.Oftenbyprayingthisway,youareinterceding.

Theprayerofintercessionisprayingforanother.

CharlesFinneybeganhisministryasaPresbyterianand lateronbecameaCongregationalist.Heknewsomethingabout theHolySpirit.Heisknownasthemanwhoprayeddownrevivals.

Finneywasholdingarevivalmeetinginacertaincity.Thewifeof one of the leading doctors of the city was a wonderfulChristian woman and leader, but the doctor himself was aninfidel.Hewouldmakefunofhiswife.ShefeltthatFinney,whohadbeenalawyer,wouldbeabletohelpherhusband.ShekeptinsistingthatFinneycometoherhouseononeofhisdaysoff.HeagreedtocomeonaMondayforthenoonmeal.

This doctor had a brother who was a farmer; he was a veryreligiousmanandhadcometoattendthemeetings.Thisfarmerbrotherwasstaying in thehomewith thedoctorandhiswife,soatthetimeappointed,Finneycameandeveryonewasseatedat the table. The lady asked Finney to pray; as he bowed hishead,hewascheckedinhisspiritandfeltthattheLordwantedthe farmer brother to pray. The brother began praying, whensuddenlyhetookaholdofhisstomachandstartedgroaning.Hethenjumpedupfromthetableandrantohisbedroom.

Thedoctor thought somethingwaswrongwithhimphysically,andjumpeduptofollowhisbrother.Finneyfollowed.AsFinneywent into the room, thedoctorwascomingout togethisbagbecause he thought his brother had some kind of stomachcramps. Finney knew what the matter was. He stopped thedoctor, informing him that there was nothing wrong with hisbrother.Finneytoldthedoctorthathisbrotherhadthespiritoftravailandintercessionandthathewasprayingforthedoctor'slostsoul.ThedoctorjerkedloosefromFinneyandsaidthathedidnotbelieveit.ThedoctorleftandFinneywentintotheroomandkneeleddownbythebrother,andbegantopray.

You can help lift a spiritual load just like you can a physicalload. Finney said thatwithin a fewminutes he could feel theburden coming off on him. For forty-fiveminutes they stayedthereweepingandgroaning.Whenyoudothis,sometimesyoufeelas ifyourownsoul is lost,but really it isn't.Becauseyouare taking someone else's burden upon yourself, you actuallyfeelontheinsideofyou,asifyouarelost.Somehavehadthisspirit of groaning and did not know what it was. It isintercessionforalostsoul.IftheSpiritofGodcomesuponyouandgroaningsstartwellingupfromyourinnerman,goaheadand groan and pray it out. Although you do not take it uponyourself to just groan in the flesh, there is a groaning of theSpiritwhentheHolySpirittakesholdwithyouinprayer.

Finneysaidthataftertheyhadprayed,theystartedlaughing.

You should always pray until you have a feeling of praise.Hesaid they rejoiced and laughed for awhile. After Finney camedownstairs,heknockedonthedoctor'sstudydoor.HetoldhimThePrayerSecretofAgreeingandPrayingintheSpirit35

thathehadawordforhimfromhisbrother.Thedoctoropenedthedoorandaskedhimhowhisbrotherwas.

Finney told him that his brother had been praying for thedoctor's poor lost soul. He added that they had prayed it allthroughandthathewasjustasgoodassaved.Finneysaidthedoctordroppedhisheadandstartedcrying.Thenhefelldownonhiskneesandwasgloriouslysaved.

Yes,thereisaprayerofintercession.Yes,thereisaministryofintercession.Donotbeafraidtoyieldto it.Paulsays,"Forif Iprayinanunknowntongue,myspiritprayeth..."(1Cor.14:14).My spirit is not coming frommymind ormy head. The HolySpiritishelpingme.IdonotknowexactlywhattoprayforasIought. So I begin praying in the Spirit, and I often get arevelationofwhatIamtoprayfor.Whetherornotyouhavearevelation,praythatwayanywaybecauseyouknowit isBibleanditisScriptural.

AyoungTexasministerwashithead-onbyadrunk.Whenhisfatherarrivedatthehospital theytoldhimthathisson'sneckwasbrokenandthathewasparalyzedfromthewaistdown.

Doctorsgavehimlittlehopeofrecovering.

The father went back the next night, and found himunconscious.He told the doctor that hewas going to stay allnightandpray.The fatherprayed in tongues,andatmidnighthewasstillprayingintongues.Heprayedaltogetherabouttenhoursintongues.

Atsixo'clockinthemorning,hewentovertohisson'sbedandsawhim lying therewith his eyes open. The son assured himthathewasall rightbecauseGodhadhealedhim.Hesaidhehadfeelingalloverhisbody.ThetwobeganpraisingtheLord.Thedoctorcamein,andtheboytoldhimthatGodhadhealedhim.

Heaskedthedoctortoremovethecast,butthedoctorsaidno,becausehisneckandbackwerebroken.Aftermuchpersuasion,theyx-rayedhimandsaidthattheycouldnotevenfindwherehis bones had been broken. They kept him there for a day ortwo tocheckhim,and finally toldhimthathecouldgohome.HewasmiraculouslyhealedandisstillpreachingtheGospel.

ThefathergotthejobdonewhenhebegantoprayintheSpirit.HegotthehelpoftheHolySpiritinpraying.Youcanincreaseyourpowerinprayer100percentbyprayingintheSpiritandintongues.
