• Initiatives taken to retain and improve membership.• We have appointed a Chair for Membership Development activities.• As part of every event, a slot given to specifically talk about membership.• STEP events held in different places across all zones in the Section.

Specific Chapter activities from all the chapters, WIE AG etc.• One hour was allocated for membership development in the Section

Students’ Congress. With this there was good increase in studentmembership.

• Dedicated membership development events were organized as part ofCIS and COMSOC Chapter activities.

STUDENT BRANCHES• Number of Student Branches: 135

• Fully active Student Branches: 105 in 2015; and 108 in 2016

• As part of re-vitalization, the SBs have been divided into four Zones and Zonal coordinators have been appointed. The number of active SBs in four zones is, Hyderabad - 51, Ananthapuram -18, Vizag -20, Warangal -16. Students’ Congress was held in all four zones. Students were encouraged to participate in Student Congress of all India and R10.

• Student Branches reported 300 programs in 2015, 283 in 2016.

• Free registrations were given to the students volunteering for International and National conferences. Student paper contests were held during the conferences.

• Students were involved in programs held by YP AG and WIE AG like 'Internship/ entrepreneurship Program', IEEE Xtreme, WIE Zonal Congress etc.

AFFINITY GROUP ACTIVITIES• WIE AG has organized 45 programs and YP AG organized 45

programs across the Section. • In addition to this, Society Chapters and subsections have

organized programs involving WIE, YP and Student Branches.• Complimentary registrations were given to WIE and YP volunteers

for International and National conferences organized / technically co-sponsored by the Section.

• Section has organized programs like 'Internship/ entrepreneurship Program', IEEE Xtreme, WIE Zonal Congress etc. for WIE and YP AG members.

• YPs and WIEs are specifically involved in the Sections annual Flagship events like Section Student Congress, Zonal congress in four zones of Hyderabad Section, Faraday Memorial Lecture, Sir JC Bose Memorial Lecture, Alexander Graham Bell Lecture, etc.

MEMBER ENGAGEMENT• Section works with Schools and pre-college students for development

of IEEE Exhibits @ BM Birla Science Centre. Coordinates with the BM Birla Science Centre for IEEE activities organized exhibits during R10 SYWL and 50 Year Celebrations at Bengaluru. This has projected positive visibility of IEEE and the Section.

• 'Skill Connect program’ has been initiated in 2015, and it is continued in 2016 and going ahead in 2017. A brief on this was published in R10 newsletter

• Symposium conducted on "Reduction Fatal Electrical Accidents". Global Electrical Safety Awareness program launched in Dec 2015, as part of SIGHT activity with support of IAS

• Organized International and National Conferences, which projected a huge visibility to the Section.

Defence, Space, Public and Private Sector Industries. • The Section organizes activities on specific technologies of interest to the

R&D laboratories and Govt. PSUs. One such program is a One Day Tutorial on “Representation, Discovery, Recognition and Segmentation of Objects and Activities” Prof. Narendra Ahuja, FIEEE at Research Center Imarat, DRDO.

HUMANITARIAN TECHNOLOGY ACTIVITIES• IAS/PES/PELS Joint Chapter took initiative in conducting ‘Awareness on

Power line safety’ across the Section with fund support by IA Society and the Section- A Video on this was created and released in YouTube- A special Lecture Session was conducted in Section Students’

Congress- WIE and YP volunteers were trained to spread awareness- Field trips conducted at Hyderabad, Janagaon and Pargi

• Education Society conducted awareness session on HAM radio for Student Members

• WIE AG conducted workshop on self-defence - Lift the Children program was conducted by Student Branch- Student Branch also visited Devnar School for blinds

• Vizag Sub-Section conducted programs for Tribal girls on ‘Imparting Enlightenment on Engineering Education’, at- AP Tribal Junior College, Araku- AP residential Tribal Junior College, Paderu.

INDUSTRY RELATIONS• IEEE Hyderabad Section has formed Industrial relations Committee (IRC)

in 2016 to bring synergy between Industry, academia, startups,Government and practicing professionals by bringing them together on to acommon platform.

• IRC conducted Technical talks, workshops with the help of IEEE Chapters.Government and Private organizations like NRSC, DRDO Labs, PSUs, M/sUurmi systems, Cyient, Tatas, etc., Following are some significantprograms:- Symposium on IoT and IEEE standards-18 Aug 2016 at TCS Deccan

Park, Hyderabad.- One day workshop on UAVs/DRONES-Technological Advances and

Innovations”- on 5th Nov 2016 at Hotel Marigold, Hyderabad.- Dr A.S. Rao Memorial seminar on “Make in India- Opportunities and

Challenges”.• IEEE Technology Entrepreneur's Summit in Dec, 2016 in Hyderabad. This

was supported by IEEE Power & Energy Society, IEEE StandardsAssociation, IEEE Hyderabad Young Professionals and IEEE MGA.

SOME PRACTICES THE SECTION ADAPTSFor the benefit of members, Section conducts: Face to face meetings of Section Executive Committee, involving

Chapter and AG Chairs every month. Constant support by Past Chairs of the Section / Chapters Encourages the Chapters/AG for organizing more than the

minimum mandated number of events. Sponsors active volunteers/ SEC members for Conference

Leadership programs within and outside of India. Funding (partial) for student members for presenting research

papers within and outside of India. IEEE Members encouraged to join AGM with their

families. A variety of programs are conducted for familymembers including quiz, soft technical awareness,cultural programs etc.

Constituted “FUTURE DIRECTIONS COMMITTEE” foradvice to the Section.
