MP&TS Achieves 50 Million Safe Man-Hours in Heavy Oil Development ProjectEvent was held under the auspices of Esam Al-Houti, DCEO MP&TS

Under the auspices of DCEO Major Projects & Technical Services Esam Al-Houti, the Directorate recently celebrated the achievement of 50 million safe man-hours without lost time or injury in the implementation of Phase I of EF/1852 from the development program of the Lower Fars EF/1852 Heavy Oil Project.

DCEO (NK) Badriah Abdul-Rahim, DCEO Corporate Services Yousef Ali, and DCEO (WK) Ismail Abdulla attended the celebration together with a number of concerned Managers, Team Leaders, and employees.

During the celebration, Team Leader (Q&HSE) Fares Al-Mansouri delivered a speech where he congratulated the contributors to this achievement from KOC, PMC, and contractors who all showed full compliance with HSE procedures and regulations.

The ceremony included a short film about the project and a presentation delivered by Coach Salah Al-Shatti on weight management and energy balance in the human body. Furthermore, Eng. Abdulrahamn Al-Maatouq and Eng. Sheikha Al-Humaidan provided an overview of two initiatives related to health and the environment.

The ceremony concluded with the honoring of the project stakeholders, where Al-Houti and Abdul-Rahim presented honorary plaques to the contributors of the achievements in recognition of their efforts in adhering to Q&HSE measures.

The project, which is overseen by the Major Projects (XII) Team headed by Faisal Al-Otaibi under the Major Projects (III) Group managed by Yaqoub Al-Dashti, is one of the largest projects at KOC. It is jointly executed by two major KOC business partners: Petrofac International and CCC, with the PMC as Worley Parsons and a number of sub-contractors.

Under the patronage and presence DCEO Drilling and Technology Ahmad Al-Aidan, and in the presence of Ag. Manager of the Development Drilling Group, Hadi Al-Ajmi, the Development Drilling Team & Workover Team (I) recently celebrated seven years of no LTI (Lost Time Injury) with KOC’s Chinese business partner, SINOPEC, in their work at Drilling Rig 919.

In addition to Al-Eidan and Al-Ajmi, TL Development Drilling Team & Workover (III) Khalid Eid, as well as a number of Company officials, employees and contractors were also in attendance. Drilling Rig 919 is used in the Al-Minagish field in West Kuwait, and the event was held at the site of Well No. 66.

This is the team’s second achievement in a short period, as it recently celebrated, again with SINOPEC, seven years of no LTI at Drilling Rig 158, which is managed by Kuwaiti engineers. Company officials have commended the work that has been put forth by Company employees and their partners, which demonstrates high degrees of professionalism and cooperation that exists on both sides.

KOC Participates in Society of Exploration Geophysicists MeetingSix-day event took place in Houston, Texas

KOC recently participated in the 87th annual meeting of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, which was held this year in Houston, Texas over the course of six days.

The KOC delegation was headed by DCEO Exploration & Gas Menahi Al-Enezi, and included a number of employees from various KOC Directorates.

During the event, the Company presented many technical work papers and also actively participated in the sessions and lectures that discussed topics related to exploration and geophysical studies.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Al-Enezi held a number of talks with senior officials from international companies and from the society itself, in which he emphasized the need to be present in this conference to learn about the best technology available in the oil and gas sector. In addition, he also upheld the importance of sharing best practices with oil companies, universities, research centers and service companies.

Dr. Adel Al-Emam from KOC’s Exploration Group has been elected president of the Society’s Geophysics Studies Committee for the next three years. He is the first person from the Middle East to hold this position since the society was established in 1938. The committee is one of the main specialized committees in the society, which is considered as an important achievement for KOC.

KOC recently won a prestigious award at the South East Asia Oil Flow Measurement Technology Conference, where it won the Best Presentation and Paper Award.

Loss Control Engineer from the Export Oil Movement & Measurement Team, Hussain Shaker Al-Abdin, represented KOC and made this achievement possible. At the event, he presented the winning paper, entitled “Resolving 0.25” Defect in 36” Field Prover - Gain of Millions of Dollars.”

After returning home from the two-day conference in Kuala Lumpur, DCEO West Kuwait Ismail Abdulla received Al-Abdeen in his office, where he presented him with the award. The DCEO then thanked him for his hard work and congratulated him for his excellence. He also encouraged him to continue developing innovations in performance in a way that benefits the Company’s interests in particular and the oil sector in general.

A delegation from Deloitte & Touche recently visited the Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition, where members received a detailed briefing of the history of Kuwait’s oil industry, in addition to details about exploration, extraction and production of oil and gas and the development of this sector over time.

Omar Fahoum, Deloitte & Touche’s Chief Executive Officer for the Middle East, led the delegation. Team Leader Information Security, Dr. Reem Al-Shammari, accompanied the visiting guests on a tour of the various sections of the exhibition.

After the tour, DCEO Major Projects & Technical Services Esam Al-Houti met members of the visiting delegation in his office, in the presence of a number of Company officials, where they discussed aspects of cooperation between the two sides.

Under the patronage of DCEO Corporate Services Yousef Ali, KOC, represented by the Soil Remediation Group, recently celebrated the achievement of two goals of the Environment Rehabilitation Program, which is part of the Invasion Environmental Compensations Commission.

A group comprised of a UN delegation, KOC officials, and other official parties took part in the celebration. Those attending included the Environment Public Authority represented by its General Manager, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Humoud, Kuwait National Focal Point represented by the General Secretary Naheel Al-Abdulrazaq, and a number of committee members.

The event included a visit to one of the oil lakes that was rehabilitated, in addition to a detailed explanation of the most prominent committee achievements during recent years.

KOC efforts in cooperation with the UN and other organizations come in the context of its public policy, which aims to make the Kuwaiti environment a primary point of concern for all directorates.

In the presence of Qusai Al-Amer, Manager Training and Career Development, as well as a number of Team Leaders from the Group, the Career Development & Planning Team hosted the CDU Forum for K-Companies.

The CDU Forum witnessed participation from Kuwait’s oil sector companies and participants discussed the HR 2030 Strategy, Unified Competency Framework and Unified Learning Management System (ULMS).

In his opening speech, Al-Amer discussed ULMS features and extended his appreciation for the effort of the CDU community in converting KOC’s Competency System into the unified format.

During the event, speakers shed light on the learning and development processes. Nassema Taqi, Senior Systems Analyst from KOC, elaborated on leading the IT project from KOC’s side, whereas other experts from different companies discussed the system’s features, future plans and its user-friendly interfaces.

The new ULMS System is a web-based application that provides a means to create Personal Development Plans (PDPs), and manage courses and training records. It will soon be implemented at KOC and other K-Companies.

KOC recently organized a campaign which provided an overview of the risks associated with electronic smoking (E-Cigarettes). The campaign was conducted under the overview of Ag. Information & Public Relations Group Manager Hasan Al-Shammari, Ahmadi Hospital Manager Dr. Emad Al-Awad, and a number of other officials.

During the event, which was organized by the Public Relations Team and attended by a number of students from local schools, speakers from Ahmadi Hospital and others discussed the risks of electronic smoking and its negative health impacts, as well as some initiatives that have been put in place to limit electronic smoking.

Dr. Hosam Al-Bayaa from Preventive Medicine, Ahmadi Hospital, delivered a presentation at the event that focused on the influences of electronic smoking on the body’s organs and the toxins that interact with the body and its vital operations.

Meanwhile, Abdulmohsin Al-Refaie, Safety & Security Manager at the Australian College of Kuwait, discussed the social endeavors ACK implemented to combat smoking in general and electronic smoking in particular, including a number of visits to schools.

The campaign concluded with a presentation delivered by Shatha Al-Fouzan, President of the Kuwait Society for Smoking and Cancer Prevention. She described initiatives that help smokers quit which use dedicated equipment with no side effects.

The speakers then answered audience inquiries before Al-Shammari and Dr. Al-Awad honored the presenters for their contribution to the campaign’s success.

The Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition recently hosted the regular meeting of the Cyber Security Committee of the oil sector, which discussed several key issues related to information security and the committee’s various activities within the K-Companies, which include awareness campaigns and security workshops for oil sector employees.

Committee Head and Team Leader of Information Security at KOC, Dr. Reem Al-Shammari, headed the meeting. She also led a tour of the exhibition, where the committee learned more about Kuwait’s long history of oil exploration, production, and development.

The members lauded the interactive and advanced landmark and expressed their pride in having such a monument for Kuwait that can compete with regional and international oil and gas exhibitions.

KOC recently participated in Schlumberger’s Software Integrated Solutions (SIS) Global Forum, which was recently held at the Palais des Congrès in Paris with more than 200 oil exploration and production companies in attendance.

During the forum, the Fields Development Group (NK) presented two technical research papers. The first was entitled “The progress of Reservoir Management and the Enhancement of Production of Mature Fields in North Kuwait Under the Influence of Water Pumping.” It was presented by Team Leader Fields Development (SA) Hamad Al-Zaabi, and the paper detailed the techniques and methods used in the management of reservoirs and how to develop production in oil fields in North Kuwait.

The second paper, titled “Identifying the Challenges of Mawdood Reservoir Properties in the Sabriya Field Through Enhanced Oil Recovery in North Kuwait,” was presented by Senior Reservoir Engineer Sanheita Tewari, who presented in detail the Company’s experience in enhanced oil extraction. The paper also demonstrated how KOC has utilized Schlumberger’s technology in facilitating the practical side of the experiment.

Meanwhile, Systems Analyst from the Technical Support Team for Information (Exploration & Production) Suleiman Marzouq Al-Ghunaim presented a paper detailing the Company’s efficiency and expertise in managing instantaneous decision-making centers for drilling operations and the effectiveness of technology in meeting the challenges of those operations.

The three papers received the admiration and appreciation of the representatives of major international companies in the field of oil and gas for the value and expertise they showed in the field of management and oil production.

In the presence of Exploration Group Manager Dawas Al-Ajmi, the Exploration Group recently held a Town Hall meeting for all team employees at the Ahmad Al-Jaber Oil & Gas Exhibition.

The meeting began with a visit to the exhibition, where employees learned more about Kuwait’s oil history and early beginnings, in addition to the latest technologies implemented by the oil and gas industry.

After the tour of the exhibition, Al-Ajmi delivered a speech welcoming the different teams that took part in the event and encouraged them to exert further efforts to guarantee KOC’s progress within the fiercely competitive oil market.

Meanwhile, Geophysical Solutions Team Leader Jarrah Al-Jenaie delivered a speech which encouraged more collaboration among the Group’s teams, which enables the achievement of their mutual goals of obtaining a higher stature for the Kuwaiti oil sector in general, and the State of Kuwait in particular.

The meeting concluded with an honorary farewell for Yousef Al-Zaabi, TPL Senior Specialist (Geophysics) from the Geophysical Solutions Team.
