Agriculture & Food processing A Kodagu is one of the districts notified under
the agri-export zone. High tech floriculture units for the production
of Anthurium cut flower along with tissue culture have been proposed in the district.
It is an important horticulture district and plantation and horticulture crops account for 87% of the net sown area.
It is known as ‘Coffee Land’ and is one of the largest coffee producers in India. Its coffee is on special demand because of its naturally maintained plantation.
It is also known for its Pepper, Honey, Cardamom and Oranges
Presence of large forest area provides scope for wood products, timber and paper.
Tourism Kodagu is rated as one of the top hill station
destinations in India. Beautiful landscapes of Coorg makes it one of
the favorite tourist destinations in India. Coffee plantations and dense forest s provide
for spectacular scenic beauty. Presence of hotels like Vivanta by Taj,
Windflower Spa and Resorts, Heritage and Orange County creates a strong hospitality sector in the district.
Presence of various golf clubs like Coorg Golf links, Mercara Downs Golf Club, Bamboo Club, Tata Coffee Officers Golf club makes it a haven for leisure activities.
District’s agro climatic condition is conducive for cultivation of coffee, pepper, orange, anthurium and other plantation crops.
District accounts for 10% of the total forest area in the state.
District has witnessed investments worth INR 3.94 Billion into agri business over a period of 2007-08 to 2011-12.

Madikeri fort: Madikeri fort built by Mudduraja is in the last quarter of the 17th century. It was eventually
rebuilt in granite by Tipu Sultan who named the site as Jaffarabad.
Gaddige – Raja’s Tomb: The royal tombs on a hillock to the north of Madikeri provide a spectacular view
of the town. Lingarajendra’s tomb was built in 1820.
Pushpagiri Hill: Pushpagiri Hills is located at an altitude of 1067 m above the sea level in Kodagu District.
Omkareshwara Temple: Omkareshwara temple was built by Lingarajendra in 1820. It is located very near
to the heart of the Madikeri. The temple has both Islamic and Gothic style of architecture.
Abbi Falls: A beautiful natural water fall where Madikeri stream flows from a precipice at a height of 70 ft
in between huge boulders to a rocky valley.
Talacauveri: It is the birthplace of the sacred river Kauveri and is situated on the slopes of Brahmagiri.
Hills. You can climb upto 300 ft. to the summit of the Brahmagiri peak where it is said, seven great sages
meditated.
Tadiandamol: It is the highest peak of the district and it provides for breath taking views.
