Squires Update Hello fellow Squires,    In the past week, I attended the 62nd Annual Squires Convention, and had so much fun. We elected a new State Board, and I was elected State Deputy Chief Squire, and Thomas Feeley had an excellent chance for State Bursar Squire, but unfortunately did not get voted in. But this year, we had more than an excellent year for awards for our circle! Circle #5195 Father John Howard Highland has been awarded: The Harry Forbes Award, The Membership Service Activity Award, Most Supportive Council Award, and The Circle Activity Award. Mr. Martindale won the the Counselor of the Year and Garrett Martindale won the Squire of the Year Award. Also, Nic Holtz won the highest score from the 2017 Bowl-A-Thon, which means #5195 brings home the trophy once again! You should all be proud of all the activities you've helped out with throughout the past year.        Just wanted to remind all of you that there will be no meeting on the 2nd of July due to the 4th of July being right around the corner and families being out of town.   Hope all of you are well, and have an excellent 4th of July.

-Casey Martindale SDCS, Chief Squire Circle #5195

Message from the Grand Knight Vivat Jesus,

Brothers, it is with deep sadness, that I inform you of our Brother Bill Cassidy’s passing on July 7, 2017. I will pass along arrangements as soon as I receive them. Please say a prayer for Bill and his family. Bill was a faithful Knight, Sir Knight, Men’s Club

member, Army Veteran, and will be deeply missed.

This may be the last newsletter you will be receiving for a while. Our editor, Mike Carnaghi, has resigned from this and also as our Lecturer. I want to thank Mike for the outstanding job he has done. We really need a replacement for the editor and

Lecturer. Please pray on this and hopefully we will be able to get another to take over these important positions.

June 24th was a very busy day for our Council. We started the morning with the first Major Degree we have had in a long time. Unfortunately, we did not have any men

for the 1st degree, from any Council. We had 13 brothers go through the (2nd and 3rd) Unity and Knighthood degrees. I am very pleased that we had all the help we needed. We had a successful Major Degree and everyone went home with full stomachs, from the meal catered by 59 West. A special thanks to Wayne Gonder,

The Looney Baker for supplying donuts for the early morning refreshments.

Later that night, the Knights hosted a Beer Garden, at the Highland Township Fireworks. Once again I was pleased to have more than enough help. We started serving at 6pm and were done by 11pm. We did well, but I’m sure we could have

done a lot better if it had not been so windy and cold. Our profit margin was very low; but Tony Young is planning for bigger and better next year. Thank you Tony; for all your hard work and effort into putting on this event.

We have passed the next hurtle into getting our gaming license. I was informed that

I will have to come in for an interview, before we are issued our license. One of our members is concerned that we want to sponsor poker events and thinks I am pushing this through; without the consent of the membership. Therefore, I plan to bring it up at our next meeting and ask for a vote of confidence. If the support is not

there; I will discontinue my efforts into getting the license.

Our District Deputy, Larry Paffi, has been talking with someone in the Knights, who is very familiar with the Ultra Sound Initiative and will be having him attend one of our meetings to inform us of what we need to do if we plan to purchase one.
