We are proud to share our 2020 High School seniors with you . . . They may or may not have had a prom or gotten to walk across a stage to receive their diplomas, but they can say they made history by being COVID-19 Seniors!

President’s Perspective . . .

Shalom everyone. I hope you are all staying safe and healthy under these difficult circumstances.

First, I want to thank our first responders, including but not limited to: doctors, nurses, medical staff, pharmacists, maintenance, police and firemen, scientists, and all our other essential workers. You are our front line and we will never forget what have done to keep us safe. We look for-ward to honoring you very soon.

Second, I want to thank Rabbi Weinberg and Rabbi Kush-nick, Harvey, the staff, Dan Cohn, Executive Committee, the Board of Directors and our COVID-19 Task Force for all you have done in order for Anshai to continue on as smoothly as possible during the past 5-6 weeks.

I got home on March 10 from Mexico and our world changed immediately. Our home life, education, work, and even our religious life, was about to take a turn that none of us expected. As president, I knew that changes and precautions were imminent and immediate. I was on the phone with Dan, our Rabbis, Rachel, and Harvey with-in minutes. Decisions needed to be made about ‘in person’ Minyanim and Services, programming, Preschool and Re-ligious School; what to do with our staff, our upcoming Mitzvah Events, food services, and meetings.

First, we needed to go virtual ASAP. Executive & Board meetings were virtual within two days of the shutdown. Our Preschool went virtual along with our services all with-in a week. We are having magnificent numbers for our daily minyanim, Kabbalat Shabbat and Havdalah Services. Thank each and every one of you for being a part of our virtual services.

I want to give a huge Thank You to Rachel and Rabbi Kushnick for keeping the Preschool and Religious School open during this virtual world. Our teachers are doing a wonderful job with virtual teaching and interacting with the students.

Then, with the assistance of our Rabbis, Harvey, and Dan, we put together a COVID-19 Task Force to assist the Ex-ecutive Committee and Board of Directors with navigating vital decisions that needed to be made. The task force was made up of past presidents, business and financial experts, current Board and non-profit experts . . .all in con-junction with the guidance of Dr. Jeffrey Kahn.

We all worked diligently to make certain we assisted Ra-chel and our Preschool with options and opportunities to make our families comfortable for the remainder of this year and into next year. We made sure that our financials and cash flow were protected and applied for the PPP

Loan, and I am happy to report we received our allocated SBA number for the PPP Loan. We have been revising our budget for next year to account for the possible diffi-culties that we may face in light of COVID-19.

I want to let all of you know that we have and plan to con-tinue to pay our Rabbis and staff. Our Hesed committee has continued their amazing work to assist our families in need during this time. Our membership is our bloodline and your commitment to be active in our virtual world shows how positive our future will continue to be.

Please note, our Annual Meeting is May 19. It will likely be virtual. I am excited to begin the process of welcoming Dan Cohn into the fold as our next President. Please join us as we will have a lot of important topics and votes to get through.

Yes, we have had to cancel some programming and up-coming B/Mitzvah. Our Rabbis have been working with all of the families to reschedule those very important B/Mitzvah. I personally stand with each and every one of you that has had to make these difficult changes after so much time and effort has been spent for your special day. We will get through this together. We will be rescheduling our Tennis Event and the Jack Molad Event. We are also working on additional virtual programing for our member-ship if the shelter at home continues.

Our plan is to get back to normal (that is our new normal, for whatever that may look like) as soon as possible. We do not know when that will be, but we are beginning to plan for when that day comes.

Our next steps are to work with the task force and Board to figure out how and when we move forward with opening up our shul and still make certain we are making the best decisions related to social distancing and your safety. You, our children, our Rabbis, and our staff’s health and safety will be of utmost importance when making these difficult decisions.

I also what to thank every committee chair, committee member, volunteers, and board member during this Volun-teer Appreciation Week. We definitely would not be the shul we are without each and every one of you. THANK YOU!

On behalf of the Board, the Rabbis, Harvey, Rachel, and my family - thank you for your patience and understand-ing. We will succeed and be better for it going forward.

Barrett

Religious School. . .

NOTE: Because of COVID-19, there will be no May lunch. We hope to see you in the fall.

If you have recently had a new addition to your family, recently become engaged, married or had a major milestone birthday or anniversary, please let us know! We would love to share good news with our Anshai Torah family.

Send details/pictures to [email protected].

We hope you enjoyed your Pesach and had very nice, although unique, Sedarim. This year’s situation provided some challenges and also a number of blessings. Thank you for your support, cooperation and understanding with our teachers while we navigate the world of virtual learning sessions. I have heard so many positive remarks from families and appreciate them all. The teachers and students have really enjoyed connecting with each other. Our 7

th grade teens have been interacting with their Israeli peers over Zoom. They started with show and tell and by

the end of the call they were speaking about how everyone was handling the Corona pandemic and the disrupted schedules. It was a tremendously meaningful conversation for all.

Please watch your emails for more details for the remainder of the school year.

Rabbi Michael Kushnick
