Animal was founded in 1987 by two local surfers from the Poole area who were basically fed up with continuously loosing their watches out in the big surf and waves on the Dorset and Cornish coast.

_Based out of their mum’s garage, theydeveloped the now infamous ‘Animal Watch-strap’ and initially sold it to friends and like minded surfers and windsurfers as a way of funding their need for waves in warmer and more exotic locations around the world.

The straps proved immensely popular with not only the surfing and windsurfing scene but also with the growing mountain bike market, skiers and snowboarders, the outdoor market, yachties and, believe it or not, the Poole based Royal Marines!

The robust, functional and highly colourful straps were instantly recognisable and clearly identified the wearer as someone who was different, cool and into ‘alternative’ freesports and theirassociated lifestyles.
