TRUE IMAGE QUALITY REQUIRES SUPERIOR OPTICS Konica Minol ta Makes the Di f ference Clear

Meet the Many Faces ofSuper iorPerformance

    High-performance optics for astounding clarity

Digital cameras require lenseswith extremely high precision inorder to maximize the capabili-ties of their CCDs. Konica Minoltahas extensive expertise in lensdesign and production, as wellas measurement techniques. Our

major achievements include the aspheric lens elements and ADglass used in our GT Lens, which compensate for various typesof aberrations, resulting in superb image quality.

Lens downsizing is another area where we excel, oneexample being the 28 mm–200 mm GT APO Lens in the DiMAGEA200. Also noteworthy is the non-protruding zoom lens builtinto the slim DiMAGE X series cameras, an innovation that wasmade possible by Konica Minolta’s long years of continual lensrefinement.

IMAGE PROCESSOR CxProcess™ IIICxProcessTM III for more naturalcolors and texturesExclusive CxProcess III technology optimizescolor saturation, edge sharpness, and highlight /shadow contrast to ensure that colors are ren-dered just as the human eye perceives them.It also suppresses noise during slow-shuttercapture, and assures rich textural detail andspatial perspective for vivid yet natural reproduc-tion of skin tones, clouds and other subjects withdelicate surface textures.

UNIQUE CCD-SHIFT Anti-ShakeCCD-Shift Anti-Shake is highlyeffective in many situationsEven with a high-performance camera, if yourhand or body shakes, you will not get a goodimage. Unfortunately, shaking does tend to occurnormally, and is an even bigger problem at slowshutter speeds and when zooming. Konica Minoltaeliminates this problem with the Anti-Shake sys-tem. Its high-precision CCD-Shift method uses aunique shake compensation actuator called SIDM(Smooth Impact Drive Mechanism). An angle-speed sensor detects the size and speed of shak-ing and re-positions the CCD to compensateaccordingly. Unlike electronic methods that tendto degrade image quality, or the optical methodthat requires a special lens, Anti-Shake optimizesthe CCD’s capabilities, while keeping the bodycompact. Best of all, with the DYNAX 7D andDiMAGE A200, Anti-Shake works for a wide rangeof shaking motions, from small finger twitches tolarge body movements!

HIGH PERFORMANCE A FAutofocusing that’s exceptionallyfast and accurateHaving developed the world’s first autofocus SLRcamera, Konica Minolta is in the forefront of thistechnology. The key to high-performance autofo-cusing is speed and accuracy, particularly fordigital cameras. To achieve ever faster speeds,we have developed ASICs to calculate AF withsuperior algorithms. The amazing Rapid AF sys-tem in the DiMAGE Z series, for example, is ableto focus in a mere instant. These cameras have afaster focusing lens drive and the ability to readimage data at twice the normal CCD frame ratewhen the shutter release is pressed partwaydown. And several DiMAGE cameras offer high-precision Predictive Focus Control, which moni-tors the subject’s speed and direction to ensureaccurate tracking of moving subjects.

  • GENERAL FUNCTIONS OF KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAS

    4 5

    * Functions vary according to model.

White balance refers to the process of color correction to match variouslighting conditions. In Auto mode, white balance is optimized for the pres-ent lighting to produce the most natural-looking images. For varying typesof light sources, you can select from among several other modes, such asDaylight, Tungsten, Fluorescent and Cloudy. With DYNAX 7D, DiMAGE A200and DiMAGE Z series, you can even customize white balance for specificshooting requirements.

When AF is engaged, you just release the shutter and the camera auto-matically focuses on the subject for a sharp image. The AF system ofDiMAGE cameras and DYNAX 7D uses either 3, 5, 9 or 11 AF sensors tocover a wide area of the frame.* Even off-center or moving subjects can beeasily and accurately focused. For precise focusing of a specific area of thesubject, Spot AF is also available on some models.

    * DiMAGE G series and DiMAGE X31 have one central sensor.

When you want more creative control over how your shot is focused, switch to manual mode. This allows you to “fine-tune” the focus manually.

    * Except DiMAGE X series.

A choice of four exposure modes gives you the flexibility to use automaticoperation or enjoy versatile creative control. * Functions vary according to model.

P (Programmed AE) modeIn this mode, all you have to do is aim and shoot. The camera automaticallycombines the best aperture and shutter speed settings for the subjectyou are shooting.

A (Aperture priority) modeAllows you to vary the aperture setting to precisely control the depth-of-field. The optimum shutter speed is set automatically.

S (Shutter priority) mode You can change the shutter speed manually, while the camera automati-cally selects the optimum aperture setting.

M (Manual) mode This mode gives you full creative control over the exposure setting byallowing adjustment of both aperture and shutter speed to achieve adesired effect.

    Auto focus

    Manual focus control

    PASM exposure control

Sensitivity is automatically controlled for all types of shooting conditions, even in dark environments or when using the flash. When you want to setsensitivity manually, you can choose from several ISO-equivalent values.*

    * Except DiMAGE X31.

When shooting at slow shutter speeds, image “noise” tends to occur withdigital cameras. Konica Minolta’s noise reduction circuitry helps ensurethat you will obtain clear images in low-light conditions, such as whenshooting a starlit sky or fireworks.

To measure the brightness of the subject in order to achieve optimumexposure accuracy in diverse lighting situations, Multi-segment meteringdraws on an array of sensors to deliver beautifully balanced exposures.Depending on what you are shooting, you can also choose Spot metering, which measures the specific subject area, or Center-weighted metering, which concentrates on the central part of the image.

    * Functions vary according to model.

To obtain the exposure level that best suits your creative purpose, youcan use exposure compensation to set a value higher or lower than the“correct” exposure set by the camera. Exposure bracketing* automaticallyproduces a series of images for each shot you take with slight variations inexposure, so you can select the one you like best. * Except DiMAGE X series.

DiMAGE cameras and DYNAX 7D offer a variety of useful modes for obtain-ing beautiful shots when using the flash. In the Auto flash mode, the flashfires automatically in low-light situations, both indoors and outdoors. Youcan also select Manual fill-flash or Flash cancel modes. The Red-EyeReduction function reduces the annoying red-eye effect.

You’ll like the DiMAGE G600’s compact size, but you’ll be even moreimpressed that it delivers 6.0 megapixel high-resolution images. With theDiMAGE G530, you will enjoy high-quality images from a 23 mm / 0.9 in.*slim body. Because their images have such exquisite detail, DiMAGE Gseries lets you make high-quality prints that can be enlarged up to A3 size(at 150 dpi). With the addition of unique Hybrid Adaptive A*IPS technologyand a high-performance GT HEXANON lens, DiMAGE G series ensures faith-ful reproduction of every detail in various types of scenes.

    * Thinnest part excluding LCD monitor.

When the opportunity for a great photo sud-denly appears, you won’t miss it, because youcan be ready in a flash. Just slide open thelens cover and the power comes on virtuallyinstantly. The DiMAGE G530, for example, starts up in just 0.8 seconds. Shutter-releasetime lag is also satisfyingly quick. Togetherwith the fast focusing speed, you’re assuredof totally stress-free operation with DiMAGE G series models.

The GT HEXANON lens greatly contributes tothese cameras’ high resolution and outstandingclarity. It consists of 7 lens elements in 6 groups, and uses a special coating to suppress internalflare and reduce edge distortion. The 3x opticalzoom can be digitally magnified by either 2x or3x, meaning that you can actually zoom 6x or 9xfor shooting a wide range of scenes from portrait to landscape.

As you aim the camera for your shot, the CCD gathers data on exposure, focus and color, which are sent to the Hybrid Adaptive A*IPS (pronouced “A-star-IPS”) image processing system. It instantly calculates the ideal expo-sure, focus and white balance values to ensure sharp, accurate and natu-ral-looking images.

To capture the magnificent detail of a smallsubject, the DiMAGE G530 gives you the abil-ity to get as close as 5 cm / 2 in. (from thelens end) at the wide end of the zoom range. The DiMAGE G600 lets you move in to within6 cm / 2.4 in. What’s more, depending on yoursubject, you can select the appropriateshooting mode from a variety of choices, such as Portrait and Landscape(modes vary between the models). The mode automatically optimizes thesettings for that scene.

Superbly detailed images in a surprisingly compact body

These two DiMAGE models are outstandingexamples of modern design excellence:slim and classy, highly functional, and The DiMAGE G600, in particular, is visuallyappealing with a sophisticated stainless steel body. In fact, the design con-tributes to making their operation easy and comfortable. The sliding lenscover also serves as a power on / off switch, letting you enjoy simple open-shoot-close operation. And frequently used controls are located near thetop of the camera for convenient access.

Equipped with dual card slots, bothcameras are compatible with two con-venient media: SD Memory Card andMemory Stick. You can even use bothsimultaneously for a huge memorycapacity, as well as copy and exchangedata between the two media.

For those who want to be able to fullyrealize their creative impulses, thesecameras provide a wide array of features. The following are just several examples offunctions you can select or control set-tings as you wish.

    ■ Customizable controller for easier setting Changing settings is made easier by customizing the 4-way Controller fordirect adjustment of AF lock, AE lock, exposure compensation and white bal-ance.

    ■ Fixed focus for difficult subjects Focusing can be fixed at several different distances. This is useful for shoot-ing moving or hard-to-focus subjects or for conditions such as dim light orstrong backlighting.

    ■ Manual exposure mode with noise reduction When you’re using manual exposure for greater creative control and takinglong exposures, setting shutter speed to slower than 0.5 seconds activatesnoise reduction to maintain image clarity.

    ■ Individual control of key factorsThe crucial factors for image appearance, i.e., saturation, contrast, sharp-ness and color balance can be fine tuned to exactly match your preference.

    ■ Selectable slow-shutter speeds For beautiful shots under dim lighting, slow-shutter speeds can be set at fineintervals depending on the flash mode.

    ■ Adjustable monitor brightness and color balance In low-light situations, you can adjust the monitor’s brightness for better vis-ibility. The hue of the image displayed can be also adjusted to capture thesubject in the style you prefer.

    ■ Adjustable flash output level Flash intensity can be increased or decreased according to the distance fromthe subject and your photographic intention. This is also useful for under-litor over-lit small subjects.
