Description of Work
The Kowloon Southern Link will connect the KCRC WestRail and EastRail operating railways and for
the purposes of construction has been divided into three separate design and build Contracts. KDB 300
and 400 are the two contracts for the design and construction of approximately 1.8km of cut and cover
tunnel from the WestRail terminus at Nam Cheung Station to the new ventilation building at Yau Ma Tei
on the West Kowloon Reclamation. These two contracts have been awarded to China State Construction
Engineering. GCG (Asia) have been employed by the contractor to provide expert advice on a wide range
of geotechnical of issues relating to design and construction. They provide a value engineering review of
the temporary and permanent works designs submitted to the contractor by various consultants. They
have also set up a fully interactive geotechnical database for the ground conditions anticipated during
tunnelling. GCG (Asia) also manage the interpretation and reporting associated with the ground and
building instrumentation and monitoring programme and advise on the technical issues associated with
commercial and contractual matters
