Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts is an autonomous, academic,
research institution under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. It
was established on 19 November in 1987. IGNCA is a repository of
academic resources in the form of books, photographs, audi-visual material
and digital format for the study of 'The Arts,' the term understood in all its
connotations. The area of IGNCA's mandate includes the oral, aural, the
written, and the narrative traditions of India, the fairs and festivals, the
lifestyles of communities, the classic and the contemporary, the traditional
and the folk cultures of this vast nation.
Bharat Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi Ministry of Culture, Government of India, is marking the birth centenary of Bhrat
Ratna Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi from 16 September 2016 to 16 September 2017.
IGNCA is one of the institutions mandated by the Ministry of Culture to organise
programme for the commemoration.
The seminar on Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi is the third in the series Sanskriti Samvad Shrinkhla. The previous two sessions were held on Hindi
litterateur Dr. Namwar Singh and Saint Ramanuja Acharya. The seminar in
three sessions will see discussions by participants on the element of
devotion in not just music but in the very life of Dr. M. S. Subbulakshmi.
The concerts being hosted on the death anniversary of MS amma, as she is fondly
called, are part of the commemoration.
