Krauss-Maffei TSF vacuum drum filterWide range of applicationsDrum filters are the most frequently
used continuous rotary filters and are
found in many different applications
due to their simplicity and ease of op-
eration.

processes in the chemical industry, plastics
production, mineral refining, food process-
ing industry and in the field of environmental
protection. To suit your specific require-
ments we provide our vacuum drum filter in

Krauss-Maffei TSF vacuum drum filterProcess advantages
 Proven design
Krauss-Maffei vacuum drum filters are avail-
able in various materials of construction and
with special cake discharge systems. Con-
tinuous improvement and decades of expe-
rience enable us to best adapt our
equipment to the given application.
 Highest filtration capacities
Number of segments, specially designed in-
lays, suction cells, filtrate pipes, and control
head, combined with maximum depth of
immersion provides highest filtration per-
formance.
 Reduced operating costs
Low energy consumption together with a
simplified maintenance ensure low operat-
ing costs.
Vacuum drum filter in gas-tight design
Krauss-Maffei vacuum drum filters in gas-
tight design are suitable for operating pres-
sures up to 70 mbar overpressure.
 Highest filtration rates and operat-
ing safety
Increased filtration performance and prod-
uct quality ensured by gas overpressure and
optimized hydraulic efficiency. Even the pro-
cessing of toxic products and solvents
under inert gas conditions is possible with
the gas-tight design.
 Optimized sealing
Further improved and maintenance-friendly
sealing cover hood and trough.
 Reinforced hood design
for operational safety at high pressures.
 Control head free of leakage
 Visual inspection of process area

Krauss-Maffei TDF pressure drum filterHigh-pressure filtration
For fine and ultra fine-grained prod-
ucts in particular, pressure filtration
allows an increased specific filtration
rate together with a higher product
quality.
With the closed design, toxic products can
be processed under inert gas. When con-
ventional methods are not sufficient,
Krauss-Maffei pressure drum filters are the
right choice for effective and reliable dewa-
tering requirements. They operate at pres-
sures up to 6 bar and at high temperatures
up to 180°C.
Main applicationsCoal preparation, dyestuff, iron orebeneficiation pigments (e.g. iron oxides, titanium dioxide), plastic intermediates(e.g. BPA, PTA, PET, melamine, etc.)

The suspension to be filtered is fed
continuously to the filter trough.
Depending on the application, differ-
ent suspension distribution systems
are available to guarantee optimum fil-
tration properties.
A special ANDRITZ KMPT-design pendulum
agitator prevents sedimentation of the
solids.
The upper surface of the filter drum is di-
vided into cells and is covered by a filter
cloth. Approximately 40% of the filter area is
submerged in the suspension and the drum
rotates at 6-180 revolutions per hour. The
TSF vacuum drum filter builds up a vac-
uum with a liquid seal pump which is con-
nected to the drum cells via the control head
and filtrate pipes. This causes the liquid to
filter through the filter cloth. The solids con-
tained in the suspension is deposited in a
uniform layer on the filter cloth, thus forming
a filter cake.
The Krauss-Maffei TDF pressure drum
filter operates with overpressure inside
the pressure vessel to force the liquid to filter
through the filter cloth. The control head di-
vides the filter drum into different sections
for filtration, washing, suction drying, cake
discharge, snap-blow, and filter cloth clean-
ing.
In the course of one revolution, each point
of the drum area passes through these
zones in succession. The filtrate drains off
trough hydraulically optimized suction cells,
filtrate pipes, control head, and separator
reservoir. It is discharged either by pumping
or by utilizing the barometric height.
The filtered solids layer emerges from the
suspension as the drum rotates, is then
washed, dried by suction, and removed
from the filter cloth. The washing liquid is
applied to the cake either directly by wash-
ing devices (weirs, spray nozzles) or through
a wash belt placed on top of the solids layer.
The filtrate from the wash zone can be
drained off separately from the mother fil-
trate, enabling counter-current filtration
washing. The filter cake is discharged by
means of a discharge device covering the
entire drum width and which is specially
suited to the cake thickness, consistency,
structure, etc. (scraper, roller, string, filter
cloth).
As the drum rotates, it is re-immersed in the
suspension. The filter cloth can be cleaned
before re-immersion, either with water jets
or with cleaning brushes.

Krauss-Maffei SSFE vacuum disc filterOperationSuspension feed
The suspension is fed continuously into the
separate troughs and flows in the same di-
rection as the rotating filter discs. Each filter
disc is divided into 30 cells. They rotate at
30-240 rph, and approximately 50% of the
surface area submerges into the suspen-
sion. The feed level in the trough is kept
constant by weir plate or level regulation.
Filtration
A vacuum is produced in the segment-
shaped filter cells, which are covered with a
filter bag. The liquor filters through the filter
cloth, while the solid matter forms a filter
cake of uniform thickness on the filter cloth
and emerges with the disc from the trough.
Filtrate discharge
All cells are provided with a separate filtrate
pipe ending in the sealing plate. The filtrate
flows along the control valve face and the
control valve head to the receiver which is
connected to the vacuum pump.
Washing of the solids
After emerging from the trough the filter
cake can be washed by a special washing
assembly, with can separate the wash fil-
trate from the mother filtrate and remove it
through the control valve head.
Solids discharge
As the disc filter rotates, the cake is dried by
removing the liquid and is discharged from
the cloth at the end of this zone by means
of compressed air. The cake then drops into
the discharge chute.
Control
The functions – filtering, washing, suction-
drying, solids discharge and filter cloth
restoring – are performed successively dur-
ing one revolution of the disc. The division
into zones is determined by the control valve
face.
