  • Dealing with Falls

    Hard break fall forwards.

    Where necessary, trainee will be tested from the knees.

    Sideways roll.

    Attacks

    Head butts – Forwards, sideways and backwards

    Kicks

    Sliding kicks – using a sliding advance for all basic kicks: Regular, defensive front, side, turning and defensive back.

    When in fighting stance - kick with front or back leg.

  • Takedowns and Throws

    Big sweep - from the outside.

    Machinegun takedown

    Releases from headlocks whilst on the ground

    Releases from a headlock from behind, starting from sitting position.

    Free a leg and turn.

    Defences against Side Kicks (Medium and High Levels)

    Retreat backwards, lift front leg with low outside scooping defence (with front hand).

    Scooping defence(against sidekicks to medium height):

    With the forward hand - advancing diagonally forward with the rear leg.

    With the rear hand.

    Sweeping inside defence with forward forearm against high sidekick.

    top kicks are also effective against sidekicks.

    Cavalier - Leverages on Wrist Joint

    Backwards

    Forwards

    Common Ways of Holding/ Using the Knife - Basic Practice

    Overhand stab - Regular/ ice pick grip.

    Underhand - Upward/ Oriental grip.

    Straight stab.

    Slashing attack.

  • General Kick ’Defences’ - Against all Four Knife Attacks/ Holds

    Sidekick to lower ribs/ solar plexus.

    Move diagonally sideways (bail out) with roundhouse kick to solar plexus.

    Defences against Overhand (Regular) Stab

    Kick to the groin (when assailant has little momentum forward).

    Kick lands as knife is moving backwards.

    360° defence - hook and catch attacking arm to prevent further stabs.

    Attack from the side (left or right) - Defend (block) and counter, control (grab) as early as possible or move away.

    Defences against Underhand (Oriental) Stab

    Close range - 360° defence - Counterattack, move forward, grab/ wrap forearm.

    Medium ranges – defend with diagonal forearm, end with cavalier take down or disarm.

    Attack from the side - Defending with near forearm while moving to the live side – switch hands, counter attack.

    Especially useful when defending against horizontally and diagonally upward attacks when attacker comes from the

    same side, i.e. – right hand attacks from right side.

    Defences against Attacks with a Stick

    Against overhead attack coming from the side. First step with same leg as defending hand.

    Against a horizontal (baseball) swing - Forward hand down, rear hand up.

    Defences against Different Attacks Coming from a Variety of Angles

    Defending against a previously unknown attack.

    The defender is encouraged to use a technique that is as close as possible to what has been practiced.

    Attacking targets (both stationary and moving) at different angles, distances, heights and positions. Starting from

    different positions/ stances.

    The student should train on a explosive series of attacks and reach 100% speed and power.

  • 4 against 1 Fighting Drills

    Slow fighting.

    Light Fighting with protective safety gear.

    Students will be tested on one round of fighting.

    Protective safety gear includes groin protector, mouth guard, boxing gloves and leg protection.

    Head gear and hand wraps are strongly recommended.

    Boxing gloves must be of leather and the padding must be safe.

    Required gloves: Person’s weight less than 50 kg: 10 oz boxing gloves, 50 up to 65 kg: 12 oz gloves, 65 up to 80 kg:

    14 oz, over 80 kg: 16 oz.
