Royal Haskoning
AimsTo win the tender by creating a project proposal for the sustainable development of a whole (Greenfield) area, by providing:
• (Advanced) solutions for the development of an industrial zone (to be an eco-industrial park).• Concept solutions/proposal for the development of the whole area in a sustainable way. • Develop a “model concept” of sustainable industrial development for developing countries.
Systems thinking
Sustainable Solutions
Integration of Social, Environmental and Technical disciplines
(People, Planet, Prosperity)
The Industrial Ecology approach
Our Goal
We gain experience of applying Industrial Ecology principles and integrating them in a real case by doing this project.
This project proposal should help and/or inspire Royal Haskoning to win the call for tender proposed by the Cameroon government for the development of the industrial zone and maybe later the development of the whole area.
The Area
Backcasting overview
Backcasting 2
Analysing the present situation:Existence (current problems)
Resources (Stakeholder inventory)
Incentives (existing projects)
Backcasting 3
Envision possible future situations:Eco-Industrial Complex
Local Environmental Rehabilitation
100% Renewable Energy
Integration of the government ideals and local lives
Population welfare: richness of culture/healthcare/education
Backcasting 4
• Build scenarios– Create concepts for the industrial site– Elaborate on local social issues (eg. providing jobs,
healthcare, education & sanitary solutions)– Feasability and cost estimation
• Think about implementation of the project (Especially in organisational and financing terms)
