Park maintenance report

Dan Helmick reported that the riding mowers, push mower, and weed eater have been serviced and are ready to go for the 2012 season. Thanks to Dan, we saved several hundred dollars this year on maintenance. Also, two batteries for the mowers and a battery charger were purchased. Odds and Ends In March a resident whose backyard is located along the perimeter of the park decided to use our Park as a dumping ground for their tree trimmings. Thanks to Tenee Butler for removing two pickup truck loads of tree limbs and brush from the Park. Also, Tenee is the first volunteer of the season (March) to mow the park grass. Thanks to Mike Korlach for improving the appearance to the entrance of Kristiansand by mowing the sides along Kristiansand Drive and to Earl Hill for repairing the spilt rail fence at the Telemark Drive park entrance. This fence is damaged when residents dump brush into the ravine. It’s a continuing problem.

We have volunteer openings for

Playground Equipment Fund Goal for Year…..………. ………………….……$2500 Contributions…………………………………… $290 Thanks to the following folks who contributed to the Playground Fund when renewing their membership: John & Janice Bangit, Mike & Jean Beacham, Ken & Carolyn Hill, Catherine Howard, Luis & Christine Morillo, Barbara Morse, Heidi Quast, Robert & Joan Ranson, John & Theresa Sammond, and Suzanne & Kraston Scott.

Your KHA Board applied for a 2012 Good Neighbor Environment Grant offered by "The James City County Clean County Commission". We were notified the third week in April that Kristiansand was awarded a grant for promoting our neighborhood’s sense of community and park landscape beautification. The Board plans to use the funds for replacing or repairing Park signs. Thanks to Karen Holbrook for tackling the paper work and following through the application process. Great job! Also, thanks to Arlene Kasmire for representing KHA at the awards ceremony in New Towns Legacy Hall.

County code update on cutting of grass Last July 26, 2011 JCC supervisors amended County Code 131A-7 dealing with resident’s garbage and refuse. Included in this amendment is a requirement of the owner of real property within a subdivision to provide for the cutting of grass, weeds, and other foreign growths as needed to prevent breeding and harboring places for insects, reptiles and rodents. Complaints can now be filed directly with the James City County Zoning officer, John Rogerson at 757-253-6718.

The Police Dept. now has “TEXT-A-TIP” Now you can text or e-mail crime tips to the James City County Police using this address: [email protected] In an effort to foster an open line of communication with law-abiding citizens of James City County, the Police Department has developed a new program in which text messages can now be used to report criminal activity. Pet clean up:

Please continue to clean up after your dogs when you walk them. This keeps our yards, the park, and streets clean, which is especially important when children are out playing this summer.

Schools out in June:

Last day of school is Friday, June 15th. Driving 25mph in Kristiansand makes it safer for all of us.
