George III King of England and king of Ireland in 1760
Became King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801.
Long reign Suffered from porphyria
Loss of the American colonies
The Americans weren’t happy with their status.
Armed conflict broke out in 1775.
The colonies declared their independence in July 1776.
The American Revolutionary War
Loss of the American colonies
George III wanted to always be at war with the revolutionaries.
The British put up a huge fight but kept failing.
George was eventually forced to accept defeat
The American Revolutionary War
Later life In late 1810 became
dangerously ill. Prince of Wales acted
as Regent for the remainder of George III’s life.
Later on suffered from dementia, became completely blind and increasingly deaf.
