Page 3: Krivosh Lesson Plan

 Day One

● Students create a twocolumn table on their iPads using Pages.

● Read the criterion we will be writing about to identify any vocabulary words that they may not understand or be able to use

in context of the prompt.

● First section of the table is Vocabulary

○ Each student’s table will look different depending on the number of vocabulary words needed to define.

● Second Section of the table is Bullet One:

○ Students write the prompt

■ Student writes the question he will be addressing?

■ Student writes a topic sentence.

■ Class determines a reasonable number of statements that address the question and leave room for 2 or 3

■ Creates rows for examples

■ Create row for concluding sentence.  (if needed)

■ Creates a space for terms to put in search engines for research (if student needs help with this task)

● Third section is Bullet Two:

○ Students repeat for each bullet in the criterion.

● Note: Many of the table look similar but they only put in the rows they need in order to write the paper.

● Upon completion of the chart, students begin to research on their own. Finding the information is selfdirected.  Students

must read and determine the information that addresses the question they are answering.

● I will write the question on the board and as they find answers to their questions, they write the answer on a post it and

place on the board under the correct bullet.

● Students can read each other’s post its, ask questions, move post its if necessary. (formative assessment)

● I will facilitate a class discussion to have students think of examples of how various teachers they have experienced or

observed have practiced some of the techniques that researched.  (formative assessment)

Due in 2 days:

For homework they will complete their charts on their own and turn in on Google Classroom.  I then give them feedback on their

charts as to accuracy of information.  (formative assessment)

Due in 3 more days:

They have write their first draft and turn in on Google Classroom.  I use the Junior Portfolio Rubric to grade their first draft. (still

formative assessment)

Note:  Their drafts are color coded to signify what kind of error was made. See color chart at bottom of the rubric. It is up to them to figure out the error, ask a classmate or me if they do not recognize what went wrong.

Due one week later:

One week later second draft is due.  I grade their paper using both my rubric and the state rubric. (summative assessment).  If they

do not receive at least a 38, they may rewrite as many times as necessary to achieve 38, if they wish.  (Many times they do not

wish to revise, but can if they wish.

3.2 Establishing and Maintaing Rapport With Students

• Rapport is important when it comes to establishing and maintaing it in the classroom. Rapport

is important because it makes the students happier and more excited to learn. Having a strong

sense of rapport between a teacher and her students, is a way to comfortableness in the

classroom, for both the teacher and the students. It is important to establish and maintain

rapport is having a good relationship between a teacher and her students can calm the students

down, which urges them more to work more efficiently. For example, Mrs. Polen always has

the lights off, blinds open, and music silently playing in the back round. She tries to make the

classroom as comfortable and homelike as possible, that way her students are happy to be in

class, are calm, and relaxed. It is also important to have rapport established and maintained in

the classroom because rapport creates a positive learning atmosphere for students. When a

student is relaxed and not stressed, the brain is calm and it can take in more information. He

teacher should make the room as relaxed as possible, this way the students will be able to take

in more information and remember it.

• Establishing and maintaining rapport in the classroom are two different things. Establishing

rapport in the classroom is starting with rapport. Establishing it could be a teacher explaining

course policies so that the students know what is expected of themselves. When students know

what is exactly going to go on during the school year in the teachers class, it makes it easier

on the student to participate during the class when they know what they are doing.

Establishing rapport in the classroom could also be learning the students hobbies and interests.

Getting to know the students makes it easier to interpret lessons to things that the students

like. For example, Mrs. Kindle knew that her students liked to be creative and do crafts. She

Page 13: Krivosh Lesson Plan

made her project a type of creative craft for the class to complete. All of her students turned in

the project on time and the students all put a lot of effort into their projects and all excelled on

the grading portion of the project. Maintaing rapport in the classroom is keeping rapport

constant in the classroom. It could be always calling your students by their names. For

example, Mr. Libeg stands at his door everyday and shakes hands with everyone of his

students and calls them by their names. Another way could be always arriving to class early

and staying late, in case a student needs help in an educational way or personal way. For

example, Ms. Krivosh is always at school early and she also stays a bit late, just in case a

student needs help, whether it be educational help or personal help.

3.2 - Establishing and Maintaining Rapport with Students

• It is extremely important for teachers to establish and maintain rapport with their students. If a

teacher establishes rapport, their students will be more likely to understand content and willing

to learn. According to a quote said by Mike White, "You want to work with people who you like

and have an easy rapport with" (White). His demonstrates that a student will be more willing to

work with a teacher that they like and have a positive relationship with. Also, students will be

proactive, enjoy the class, and not be afraid to ask questions. By feeling more comfortable in

the classroom, students will take more risks academically. Establishing rapport with students

is essential for a teachers success within the classroom.

• There are various methods used for a teacher to establish rapport with her students. For

example, teachers can ask their students about themselves and learn about their interests,

hobbies, and aspirations. By doing so, the teacher is showing the students that they care.

Another method would be for teachers to greet their students in a positive way as they enter

the classroom. If a teacher begins the day on a positive note, she will set the tone for the

entire day and make the students feel positive about the day. By using these methods to

establish rapport, students will feel more comfortable in the classroom. Though it is essential

to have different methods to establish rapport with students, teachers must also have methods

to maintain those relationships. One way to maintain the relationships would be for a teacher

to be respectful to her students. If a teacher treats her students with respect, they do the same

in return. In addition, teachers can take interest in the activities their students participate in

outside of the classroom to maintain rapport. If a teacher does this, she will make the students

to feel as though they are important to her not only within the classroom, but outside of the

Page 15: Krivosh Lesson Plan

classroom as well. Maintaining a positive relationship with students shows them that they are

still important to the teacher and that the teacher still cares about them.

3.2  Establishing and Maintaining Rapport with Students

● Rapport is one important factor to have in the classroom. Rapport is the positive

relationship between the students and the teacher in the classroom. One reason why it is

important to keep rapport in the classroom is that it can help manage your classroom better. One

example of why this fact is important is that it will help keep trust in the classroom. A student

doesn’t want to go into a classroom with a teacher he/she does not trust. If the teacher can win

the trust of her student in the classroom, then the students will be more comfortable around her,

then the students will be behaved, and more rapport is built. Another example is that the students

may have higher motivation in the classroom. If a student doesn’t have motivation in the

classroom, that will lead the student to be bored or not do any work. That leads to trouble,

everybody knows that. But if the students can connect with the teacher in any sort of way, then

that will make that student stride to do better in that class.

● Establishing and maintaining rapport in the classroom are two totally different scenarios.

Establishing rapport in the classroom is the foundation of the rapport in a teacher’s classroom.

One way to establish rapport is by remembering the students names. Remembering students

names gives the students a personal satisfaction that will start a foundation. Another way of

establishing rapport is to connect with students on appropriate personal matters. A teacher could

maybe make a “quiz” about their hobbies, favorite kinds of music, foods, TV shows and so on.

The teacher can relate to the students that way and form rapport through that. Maintaining

rapport in the classroom is how you steadily keep rapport going in the classroom. One way to

Page 19: Krivosh Lesson Plan

maintain rapport in the classroom is to have a suggestion box in the classroom. If the students

feel they can voice their opinion [anonymously], then they feel like they are all part of the class,

which helps build rapport with all the students instead of just a few. ANother example is to move

around in the classroom. A teacher shouldn’t stand in one place and lecture the whole period, the

students will get bored. Move around the classroom, around and in between desks, and move

from the front of the room, to the back, to the front, and so on and so on. Stay mobile!
