The worlds largest energysource is waste gas from indu-strial processes.
Determined exploitation of this up to now lostenergy can save valuable primary energy anddramatically prolong the availability of theearths energy resources.
The use of residual heat makes a two-fold contri-bution to environmental protection: It not onlysaves energy but is also free of emissions
existing plants, the modular design and the longservice life of the components make for lowinvestment and operating costs. A large numberof the systems installed have paid back in lessthan two years.
KTTNER systems also generate power fromwaste heat. The cogeneration technology, whichproduces power from industrial waste gas bymeans of steam turbines, is a profitable optionalready in the 2 to 20 MW power range.

ECOFLOW:
HEAT AT ZERO COST
Already about 35 years ago KTTNER developed theECOFLOW heat shunting and distribution system for theeconomic use of recovered energy. Since then the effi-ciency of the system has been constantly improved.
ECOFLOW distributes the recovered heat at a high tem-perature level to various consumers. If required, it transmitsthe heat over very long distances virtually free of loss.
The heat exchangers for the ECOFLOW system are usual-ly made up of modularly designed heat exchanger ele-ments. This enables convenient retrofitting of the systemeven in existing plants with extremely limited space. Themodular arrangement makes for low invest-ment and maintenance costs andhence high economic effi-ciency. The amount ofenergy recoverablethrough the exergetic useof waste gas can beused extremely efficiently
if it is distributed amongvarious consumers.

The core of many KTTNER systems is theECOSTAT heat exchanger system. It uses heatpipes - the safest method for exchanging the hea-ting or cooling energy of two bypassing media.
Heat pipes work on the principle of isothermalevaporation and condensation of the working
media in the pipe, the wall temperature ofwhich can be objectively varied. This securelyprevents the temperature from falling below thedew point. This feature is of decisive importancewhen recovering heat from waste gas or com-bustion media as it avoids corrosion.
Each individual pipe of the heat pipe exchangerconstitutes a closed circuit complete with an eva-porator and condenser but without any driveunit. The pipes are series-arranged in the directi-on of flow. This ensures optimal operation of
each pipe under the specific temperatu-re/pressure conditions prevailing at its position.
Heat pipes are safe: Mixing of the two mediaflows is prevented under all circumstances.Efficient operation of the system continueseven if some of the pipes fail.

Established in 1949 by Dr. Kttner, this engi-
neering company has evolved into a globally
active group of companies supplying turnkey
plants for process, melting and conveying tech-
nology to the metals producing and processing
industries.
The Energy and Thermal Engineering divisi-
on designs, builds and supplies components
and complete plants for the recovery of heat.
The company has references from virtually all
industries.
The service offer comprises the design, con-
struction, delivery, assembly and commissio-
ning of the plants complete with control and
data processing systems.
