Demonstrations on various techniques were demonstrated by the research scholars under the guidance of Prof. Suraishkumar.
Science Teaching & IIT Madras . Lectures by the faculty of IIT M in topics of
Biotechnology, Physical chemistry, Gravitation
and many more have been delivered to the
students of XI & XII on several occasions.
Series of Guest lectures during breaks have
been planned with the support of the IITM
faculty who are PTA members too.
Science Teaching & IIT Madras . Judging of Projects & Exhibits:
Valuable inputs have been provided time and again by the Professors of IIT M by judging exhibits at the vidyalaya and regional level competitions and providing critical inputs for the development of projects for the Inspire award,National Chidren’s Science Congress,KVS Science exhibitions and so on.
Prof. Edamana Prasad was the judge for the latest vidyalaya level NCSC,from which two of our five projects got selected to the National level competition
Science Teaching & IIT Madras . Demonstrations of Science expeiments for both
high school and middle school children have been given by the faculty on occasions like Sciene Day,Childrens day wherein Science was portrayed as a fun activity and therefore motivated students to try a hand at it!
Science Teaching & IIT Madras . NSS students of IITM have been providing voluntary
coaching in Maths and Science to students of class X enrolled for NTSE
Science Teaching & IIT Madras . Research scholars of IIT M have shared their ideas
on Innovative projects that could be taken up by students of class XI & XII.
Science Teaching & IIT Madras . Interschool Competitions organized by the
Metallurgical department, chemistry department for schoolchildren have seen the participation of our students in Quiz, debates, paper presentations and so on.
Several workshops eg. Robotics organized by IITM saw the participation of our students too wherein they got an exposure to the latest and current trends in science
Science Teaching & IIT Madras . Summer Residential Camp :
Our students have been given opportunities to enroll in Summer camps where they had a chance to work with Professors and be guided in small Research projects.
This hands on experience got by the students has been of immense value to motivate them towards scientific research.
Science Teaching & IIT Madras . Invitation to be part of several techno-fests organized
by various departments wherein the student teams could represent their school and present papers, designs etc –a unique platform for a school student .

5 E Lesson Plan TR:- R.NANDHINI,K.V.IIT, CH-36 GETTING TO KNOW PLANTS SUB TOPIC:- PARTS OF PLANT LEARNING OBJETIVES: Students will be able to question 1.the two systems of a plant 2.The various parts of a plant. 3. The leaves showing parallel and reticulate venation. 4.The detail parts of a leaf, flower.
Lesson Plan -5E sample MAJOR CONCEPTS: Root system and shoot system Root-i)types →a) tap root→main and lateral roots b)Fibrous root ii) parts→roothair, root cap, root nodules. Stem→tubular structure→1. Green and tender-herbs ( may or maynot have branches) 2. Hard not thick – shrubs( many branches near the base) 3. thick and brown stem – tree (have branches in the upper
part) 4.weak stem -creeper 5. weak stem needs support to grow-climber
Lesson Plan -5E sample .LLEAF:- 1. Lamina 2. Stalk 3. veins→mid rib TYPES- Reticulate venation Parallel venation. 5.FLOWER: 1.Sepal( green colour) 2.Petal( coloured- joined / separate) 3. stamen ( filament/ anther) 4. pistil ( style, stigma.ovary) LEARNING RESOURCES:- PLANT SPECIMEN THERMOCOL CUTTER HAND LENS LEAF FLOWER.
Lesson Plan -5E sample TEACHER INITIATIVE STUDENTS ACTIVITIES ASSESSMENT
ENGAGE:- Recap ( 1 to 3 lesson). Teacher
starts the class by showing the plant
specimen and the students that which
parts are seen above and below the
ground.
Students recall the name of the parts
which is present below and above the
ground
Which part of the plant holds it upright?
Name the system which is above/below
the ground?
EXPLORE:- Then the teacher introduce the
topic shoot system and root system. In today’s class let us explore what are the different parts present in the root and
shoot system in detail
Students will explore using hand lens.
ROOTS-
a).tap root- main root and lateral roots.
b) fibrous root
STEM- tubular structure.
LEAF- green colour,veins
FLOWER-sepal
Coloured –petal
Which part of the plant is tubular in
nature?
What is the difference between the two
plants in case of the root system explain
using the plant specimen?
Lesson Plan -5E sample EXPLAIN:- JIGSAW
The teacher calls one student from each
group and will ask that student to
explain the structure and function of a
particular part of a plant.
Each student in a the will become an
expert. Root experts will form a group
and read the information card or web
quest
.http://questgarden.com/29/62/5/0
60713115757/process.htmgiven by
the teacher and return back to the
parent group and explain the details to
other group members.
The teacher will tabulate the points
explained by each group.
Group 1- will explain about the root
Group 2:- about stem
Group 3:- leaf
Group 4:- fruit
Identify, paste and label the parts of a
flower specimen neatly in a black chart.
Make a collage of the parts of a flower
using the colour paper.
Draw the types of root system.
Lesson Plan -5E sample ELABORATE: The teacher will ask to look
the two plants specimen to find out the
relation between roots and venation.
The students perform the activities in
group and give response to the
questions and finding the inner parts of
a flower using a cutter and a hand lens.
1.which type of root does a plant have
which are easy to uproot?
2. What type of a root does a parallel
venation plant have?
EVALUATE:
Students are asked to complete the exercise
1 given in text book.
Students in a pair complete the exercise.
HOT POTATOES EXERCISE:-
