Snack Suggestions• Arrange colorful fruits and vegetables to create a

rainbow.

• Cut out cookies in themed shapes, such as hot air balloons, witches, or the little dog, ToTo! Make a ruBY Slipper™ punch using ruby red grapefruit juice or a cherry-flavored drink mix.

Decoration Ideas• Draw bricks on the walkway leading to your

store’s entrance with yellow sidewalk chalk, or draw the road on large butcher or mural paper to make a brick road that leads from the street and continues into your store.

• Hang a banner near the front door that says “Welcome to the Land of Oz.”

• Stuff striped stockings and tuck the open ends under a doorway to remind guests of the Wicked WiTch of The eaST™.

• Tie bunches of emerald green helium balloons and rainbow-colored streamers around the store.

Host a Wizard of oz™ Event in Your

Bookstore!



Costume ContestKids love to dress up—and not just on Halloween!

• Invite your staff and your guests to arrive dressed as their favorite Wizard of oz™ character. (A wide variety of fun costumes are available online; others can be easily made.)

• Offer prizes for best costume or award category winners such as “most creative” and “funniest.”

Color the yeLLoW BricK road™

• Use a large piece of yellow butcher paper and draw bricks on it with a dark marker. (You will want to make the bricks large enough for the children to have room to color and write in each one.)

• Instruct each child to write his or her name in one of the bricks and color a picture of a favorite character from the movie.

• You can also cut yellow construction paper in half and let each child decorate a brick before hanging on the wall in a yellow brick road pattern.

Find the ruBy sLippers™

• Take an old pair of pumps and spray paint them with red paint. After they dry, apply a light layer of glue to the shoes and add glitter! You can also find ruby slippers online for as little as $20.

• Hide the pair of shoes in the store and send the children on a hunt for them.

• The two players who find each shoe win a small prize.

Pin the Heart on the Tin Man™

• Glue an image of the Tin Man on a poster board, or purchase a Tin Man poster. Draw an outline on it where his heart belongs. Mount the poster on the wall.

• Cut several red heart shapes out of construction paper and write each child’s name on one.

• Put double-sided tape on each of the hearts.

• Blindfold the kids one by one, spin them around, and let them try to pin the heart on the Tin Man.

• The player who pins the heart closest to the correct spot wins the game, and gets a prize.

coWardLy Lion™ Mask-Making• Choose yellow paper plates or let the kids color a white paper plate yellow.

• Show the children how to cut out holes in their plates to create eyes.

• Cut out strips of yellow and brown construction paper to create the mane, and have the children glue them around their plate. (Cutting the strips before the event saves time for the kids.)

• Use pipe cleaners for whiskers, and attach them to the plate with glue or tape.

• Have drawing materials and construction paper on hand to let the kids add extra details such as noses and mouths.

• Glue a craft stick to the bottom of the mask, and watch the kids roar with delight!
