Specific Gravity of Coarse Aggregate
Citation preview
Mitchlie Martyr CAE 307 - Lab 6 March 13th, 2015
Title: Test for specific gravity of coarse and fine aggregate.
Purpose: To determine the specific gravity of aggregate.
Scope: The specific gravity was determined by using a EUREKA can to determine the weight of the sample.
Apparatus:
Balance Humboldt EUREKA Equipment Sample Splitter
Procedure:
The test for setting time of hydraulic cement was conducted based on A.S.T.M. C 128.
i. Measure the weight of an empty bucketii. Fill the EUREKA can with water until it overflows.
iii. Place the bucket in the can while making sure water enters the bucketiv. Add aggregate to the bucket while balancing its weight on the splitter.v. Record all measurements taken.

Conclusion: The average specific gravity of the coarse aggregate was fond to be 2.70. A standard deviation of ~0 was found. This suggests that the lab data was very precise. The average specific gravity of the fine aggregate was fond to be 2.36. A standard deviation of ~0 was found. While not as precise as the coarse aggregate data, this was still very precise.
